Great, now the Tetris theme song is stuck in my head! Seriously excellent design and implementation of the prompts. The mechanics make for slick and interesting puzzles/combat. It looks like the phenomenon could feasibly be explained naturally in-world, but I think my players would get a kick out of figuring out how the Raiders wound up in this twisted arena!

Developer

I like to think that a shady Tetromino Commissioner convinced Bo Jackson that his talents were needed in yet another arena.  Thanks for the high praise!

Cool winged yeti art! I like that you named the arena the gridiron to incorporate Tecmo Bowl and I think the Glitch table is fun! The Tendo highlight reel is a nice touch as well! "Now you're playing with power!" I like that you included an example of play, Da owlbears lol.

Thank you so much! Coming up with puns and riffs was half of the fun! I mean, it simply had to be Da Owlbears, haha.

Amazing design and layout, and the game itself is so well thought out, including the variant game styles. This would function as a truly entertaining stand alone game to play over and over, rolling up some random shadowdarkling characters each time to play again. Incredibly well thought out, and very tightly written. Amazing work

Developer

Thank you kindly! I'm sure this wouldn't be every group's cup of tea, but some tables might really get into it!

I like the art and the action is good.

On the surface it might seem like classes that don't have a particularly high str or dex work very well here, but I suppose they have ranged options.

The winged yeti feels like a weird addition, but the glitches are cool.

Developer

Thanks for taking a look! That's true: physical stats feature in most checks. Adding a glitch or something that targets mental stats could be a huge win!

The Winged Yeti is a nod to my entry in the last Shadowdark game jam. Definitely not a relevant reference for anyone but myself, but with the DK Jr. NES title, I figured I'd sneak it in there in place of DK.

I think this is the most well integrated with the prompts that were given that I’ve seen so far. What a great spin on it. I could easily see myself using this as a one shot, gauntlet, or wild side quest in a campaign. Awesome work!

Thanks so much! I'd love to hear about it if you do!

This is such a genius way to instill those tough inspirations you got! You've got so great levity and humor in here, and the glitch system is a great twist. Super unique way to take your project, very impressive! I'm glad you included the example of play, since this is very different it helped me understand the concept. You basically made an entire new game based off Shadowdark!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! It was a fun challenge to build a game that functioned within the Shadowdark ruleset. I hope I mostly pulled it off!

This is fantastic. You truly made the most of the tough hand you were dealt. Beautiful layout made it a joy to read - you did a great job explaining the rules, as the combination of tetris, football and dk could easily turn into a confusing mess. I think it was a really smart choice to include and example of play to tie everything together!

Developer

Thanks for taking a look! It took the whole jam, but the pieces mostly came together in the end!

I just love the Tetris usage to this degree and it's a very unique idea and concept for an sport. The formatting is well done and easy to read and the visuals are engaging and good pixel art.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much! It definitely felt like a fun idea while working on it, and trying to solo-playtest.
And it turns out pixel art is a lot of fun!

Lol at just straight-up having the LA Raiders in there.  I like the vibe and art.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for taking a look!

They're called "La Raiders" so that's different... right? It might be worth changing at some point, haha.

No way, keep it.
