Really bangin' maps. I also think your RP notes are a lot of fun. Big fan of the adventure being based in a roughly antagonistic imperial city (good use of Ghostbusters prompt)! With minor tweaks it could be adapted to most of the campaigns that I've run with minimal fuss. I'm stoked to drop the rumors next time my players are near a hub city.

We also had Ghostbusters, and I know firsthand how tricky it can be to extract ideas from that game that aren't owned by Sony. Nicely done. I also think you did an impressive job of compacting a fairly large dungeon into such a small amount of page space. Impressive work.

Love the map design as if it were a video game level style graphic, so good! The wise woman rumors is very fun. With more page space having map cutouts would help usability though. I wish the inspiration page was at the front, so going in you are armed with the knowledge of how they influenced the work. The zelda influence is very apparent, the items are like something you'd need in the game, which is awesome. Great work!

Inspiration: Zelda with a ghostly twist. You made the most of your game draws.

Usability: This would be pretty easy to run as is. Keying the boxed info around the maps to specific areas on the map would be helpful, but their inclusion is a great idea.

Vibes: The double-booklet layout (clever!), retro maps, and 8-bit illustrations are fantastic. This is a classic NES video game in TTRPG form.

Thank you very much!

CORPSE TALK LIVE DAY 2 Reviews

Since I didn't have time to enter this year, I can't do a traditional vote, but I can comment and take the time to go over some of the popular favorites and my own. The vibe is strong and I still feel cards for the monsters would be a stellar fun piece.

I'm loving the 8-bit art. The monsters are great. Nice use of the Nintendo booklet, definitely nailed the vibes!

Thank you for the kind words!

I liked the map levels and the layout all around, very much like a NES instruction manual.

Exactly what I was hoping to evoke, thank you very much!

The rumors seem extremely helpful for directing players and hinting at puzzles! I love that the weapons double as cool magic items and puzzle pieces. Also, the Demonic Draw boss mechanic is awesome! I was wondering if the bloodstains carried significance, so I'm glad you added the boxed callout.

I typically like a less directly structured dungeon adventure, but given the NES Zelda inspiration and the Baron de Ropp escalated puzzle influence, this is perfect! It really feels like you could have pulled this out of an NES classic and put in Shadowdark details.

Greatly appreciated, and I can't overstate how kind it is of you to read it so thoroughly! The bloodstains and the draw in were two of mhy own favorite small elements, and I greatly appreciate your thoughts. I have seen your adventure pop up near the top a few times now and I am excited to check it out next!

EDIT: Holy fuck! I just realized you are the same a Hobgoblin who entered the Last Waltz; that was my favorite Weird  Tales entry by a hearty amount, the amount of elegant design and content you were able to pack into that were seriously so impressive they influence the way I look at my own work today. I literaly chose a deep purple for my formatting bars instead of Shadowdark black because of a recolection of how elegant your waltz felt, and a desire to capture a bit of that for the princess. I am now even more excited to check out your 8 bit entry than I was 20 minutes ago. Man I love these jams;Thank you

Thank you! I'm glad The Last Waltz left an impression. I spent a wild amount of time on it last jam. You might appreciate the winged yeti's appearance in my submission for this jam!
It's really fun to see creators work pop up in different jams! Heroes' Journey definitely has an elegant feel!

  • Vibes: Great!
    • Bonus points  for NES booklet format AND embedded music.
    • Art/maps/general aesthetic very 8-bit.
    • Simple, clean layout.
    • Staple marks in center of spreads was a nice touch.
    • I love the simple, classic premise. Perfect for a game jam entry.
  • Inspiration: Clearly shows through and is well/concisely explained.
    • I would have preferred if the inspiration was up front, but I understand putting it at the end is probably better for actual use vs. game jam reviews.
    • I appreciated the shoutouts to other creators in the inspiration section - classy!
  • Usability: Solid, but some quality of life improvements might have helped a bit.
    • I like the clear, concise adventure overview right at the beginning.
    • Role-Playing tips (e.g., Wise woman, page "1") are a nice touch.
    • Hyperlinks to referenced items/creatures/page numbers in same document would be helpful.
    • Instead of suggested level, I saw you used "12 HD worth of Shadowdark Characters". I'm not sure how I feel about that (i.e., does it work?), but it's definitely an interesting idea!
    • Would prefer if relevant stat blocks were directly on the relevant page or (because I know space was limited, especially in the booklet) hyperlinks to the stats in the back would have worked too.

Final Thoughts: Really solid adventure, great 8 Bit vibes, and inspiration shows through and is explained clearly. Would benefit from a few some quality of life changes, but looks like it would be a blast to run as is. Good job!

I greatly apprecieate the amount of detail you have gone into not only on my adventure here, but also on every other adventure I have seen you give feedback on. You have done an amazing job of sharing concise, useful feedback, and the amount of effort you have put into every one is obvious. I hope you do so well in this jam, your adventure deserves it, and you deserve it as a collaborator in what everyone is working on doing here. Thank you so much for the thorough feedback, both on my adventure and on all the others I've seen you comment on.
