It's been a whole week, lets post what we've accomplished! While the Discord server is a lively place, this community forum is a bit more browsable and offers something to look back at even after the jam's done.

I'm making a first-person dungeon crawler with destructible clothing this year!

I have a big lineup of potential characters planned and don't know how many I'll have time to add, but these 6 will definitely appear.

Now it's your turn! Share screenshots, sketches, concept plans, or any other little clue to hint at what you're making!

Ooh that looks amazing. Love the characters! Tried to make a dungeon crawler myself at one point but it seemed such a massive undertaking I got discouraged. How’s the coding been? Is the first picture a mockup or do you have this much running already?

Making a sequel to one of my games this year. Started a couple of days early and the character art is old. The jam page said old prototypes were fine so figured starting a bit early was alright. But I’ll inform about my headstart in the submission page and probably releasing a couple days early. Don’t really care about my ranking that much, just hoping I get this project finally done. Haven’t gotten much done the last couple of days, got sick and not that sure about the stats system so I’ve been procrastinating.

Thank you! I planned to focus on code in the first week, but kept getting distracted by my desire to get a better idea of what it will all look like, so I made a few semi-finished sprites first, and the screenshot is mostly a mockup at the moment. I have a lot of experience with making grid-based games, so hopefully the coding this week will go smoothly and you'll be able to walk through a randomized map to strip a goblin at the end of it.

I'm excited to see how your project turns out, the art and concept are really neat! Hypnothick was fantastic, and you've made a lot of fun little games since then too, so I'm eager to see your newest creation!

Well time well spent, the mockup looks stunning! Yeah was intressed how the coding part was going since I gave up on one after looking into it. But with your experience you absolutely got this!

Thanks so much! Don’t think this will be as good as Hypnothick but I’ve been meaning to make this sequel for so long. The first one was pretty popular though, hopefully people like more of the same stuff.

Can’t wait to test your project! It looks really promising!

I'm digging the shapes of the character design in your mockups! I look forward to seeing how this turns out!

Thanks! Yeah hopefully I can finish it, been a very slow dev week. But I usually get things rolling pretty fast once I get the motivation.

I've a forum post as well for my own devlog, but it's cool to see what others have been working on!

I haven't stopped devving all week, my place reeks more than a Redditor xD

My game for the jam will be a porn parody of Fossil Fighters, an old dinosaur-battling DS game. I've pretty much already coded everything except combat, I want to save as much time as possible for drawing the sprite bc I suck at art >_>

Here's one of the most recent screenshots, the gamepay is basically delving into a mine and collecting fossils to revive as partners (in combat or otherwise ;) )

I saw the thread, I wish more participants used the community forums in the way you do, it's really neat to see a full documentation of how something was made! It looks like you've got a lot of tough coding stuff done early, and the game already looks both fun and functional. I hope that the art stuff goes well, playing towards your strengths and giving yourself more time for it is definitely the right sort of approach.

I appreciate how thorough your thread is! And I appreciate all the care and detail you put into your interfaces : )

"Revive the dinosaurs so we can mate together"... That's the sort of compelling dream that fills a person with vigor.

I think we've all had it before...

I'm working on Blend Battalion - A deckbuilding roguelike in the vein of Slay The Spire where your deck is a battalion of troops, and playing them as cards fuses them into the player character, empowering your attacks and abilities!

[Some of these screenshots are from seperate play sessions so numbers may not line up. the first will have a crt filter over it, the rest may not]

You use the power of intimacy and cooperation in order to beat back a mysterious condition called "Delta Degradation" that has turned people who are isolated and alienated into strange monsters. The power of fusion will help cure your foes as you beat away their misery and head toward the source of the mysterious phenomena.

You plan out a turn by placing buddies from your battalion onto the turn timeline! Different buddies do different things and their merges will take different amounts of time.

Once you've planned out a turn, you hit go and it will play out. You can also see when enemies will attack on the timeline, and mousing over an event points to its according enemy.

As a turn plays out, units will jump into your character, merging with you.

You'll even grow in size as you merge with buddies during a turn!

at the end of a turn, most buddies in your battalion who merged with you will leave to go rest (discard pile), though some will stay merged until a condition is met, such as buddies that give conditional buffs, or buddies that do particular strong attacks.

So far I've completed the foundation of a battle system, with modular handling of what enemies and buddies do when their actions are played so that later development may be easier. And now I'm working on a map screen with procedurally generated routes!

Sorry for the long post, I'm just very excited about making this silly little game for the gamejam!

Dang, that looks extensive! I thought I went too far in terms of content/mechanics bu tit seems some people here are even more ambitious than me! Good luck for your project :)

Submitted(+1)

I can definitely tell that you're excited about making this, it's really impressive how much you've got done and how good everything looks! And you've put the fusion theme into a fairly key part of the game, I had a lot of my own stuff pre-planned so I still don't know what exactly I'll do with the theme.

Submitted(+2)

Oh wow this looks phenomenal. Love the graphics and seems like a pretty ambitious project. Can’t wait to try it out!

I'm making a N64-style multiplayer shooter, vaguely inspired by Senran Kagura Peach Beach Splash.
Which means it's a water gun fight and clothes being destroyed. It has split screen but I hope to get some bots in there too.

I started like 2 weeks early though, and shamefully isn't even following the theme at all... So not really a fair contender. But the jam really helps motivation though!

It's going pretty well so far ^^

And everyone else seems to be doing good too, nice stuff in here!

A full 3D shooter is tough to make, so it's cool to see that you've already made so much progress in setting it up! I really like the retro-style art! We've got somewhat similar concepts, it'll be neat to see our games side by side.

Yes, your game looks very interesting. Cute characters and pixel art :)

Submitted(+3)

I love the vibrant cmyk geared pop of the visuals! I look forward to seeing how it turns out!

I'm making a game kind of like Slender the 8 Pages but with a sexy cryptid. While I'm on a good pace, I'm having trouble getting the stalking mechanic down.

Submitted(+1)

I like the atmosphere! This type of a short horror adventure seems perfectly suited for a game jam.

I am making a fishing game. I have a background in game art and sculpting so I'm trying to lean on that.

It is my first time properly coding anything ever. If it functions at all by next month, it will come as a shock to me.

Submitted(+1)

It'll be fun to see your 3D models in any sort of action, they look great! I'm still finding plenty of challenges even after coding games for years, so I hope that your first time programming goes as well as it can, it's tough to bring games to life.

Submitted(+1)

I like the 3D model of the fish girl, I've never played a fishing game before so I'll lok forward to it :)

And don't worry, it's fine if it's buggy, especially as your first coding experience. What really matters is if you're enjoying the process, not the end result :)

(+2)

Been following. Im down to clown in fish town.

Heh, I was busy the first half of the month (Totally not just playing Runescape, ehehe...)
But while busy, I used my free moments to do a lot of drawings for a fusion project for this game jam.
My game is going to just be a simple one: pick two characters and fuse them together to see what sexy result they will form.
Currently my project is fully functional, so I'm mainly missing just some flair.

That's a lot of combinations! I always enjoyed these straightforward types of "mix stuff together and see the results" games. Your art is really good, so it'll be a lot of fun to find everything that can happen!
