Nice work! Echoing some other comments, having a few presets would have been nice to dive right in, especially because it was really hard to judge things like jump height. Love all the customization, would be really fun with real multiplayer.

This really reminds me of Worms, that was one of my favorite games growing up. It took me a little bit to wrap my head around the mechanics, but after that it clicked and I had a great time. One suggestion: a tutorial or some kind of preset map to start with would go a long way, since the initial map I played on didn't really help me learn the ropes.
if you can please check out my entry I would appreciate that a lot.

Very fun! Like others have said, you can work on adding a default map and characters for future! But what a fun game!

It was a portal back to childhood! I spent so much time playing Worms back then🐛

But besides the fact that you have a good game, it also has great QTEs! I loved the variety of weapons!

Reminded me of Worms :) I struggled a little with smoothness of the separate game steps (character building, map design, gameplay) so I think with a bit more polish this could be a really neat little gem! Well done for getting this together!

Would love to skip the building and just play. Fun game though, I'm a big fan of the worms.

Gonna play this with my brother if I have the time

AHHH! Its like Worms!! I loved playing that game when I was a kid. Took a minute to figure out how/what I was doing but once I got the hang of it, it was fun. I think maybe having a tutorial level or a premade map would be helpful cause the first map wasn't super useful.

Wow this is soo cool!

I can see this as a good multiplayer game!

Well done, interesting concept :D

Great job!

I have a destructible terrain concept I've been hoping to start on soon, are you using Geometry2D functions for this?

The performance is very smooth and you implemented the QTEs and multifunctional level design in your gameplay very nicely!

Developer(+1)

yes. Geometry2D api is very powerful.

There is a Godot 3 tutorial on YouTube about destructible maps that was the basis of the first prototype, but I ended up changing it for a bitmap-based approach. (See in the desktop version that the game simply loads and saves pngs for the maps)

It was still necessary to use Geometry2D, but in this case I only needed it to generate the collision polygons based on the PNG alpha

But all this only performed well when I mixed this last approach with a partitioning system similar to the one in the tutorial (the tutorial has problems but the performance is great)

This is a cool concept! You have a great tool at your disposal now. Giving the user this much control over the levels and characters is a difficult feat, and I think you've nailed it. I didn't know about the holding x/c thing until reading the comments here, so a tutorial on that section would help the game. I like the direction your going, and hope to see more weapons and some bots to play with in the future!

Fun game. Takes a bit of set up, I think it might have been good to have a default team set up. But that's not part of the ratings. Well done, I used to play worms a lot back in the day. And even Gorilla that was made in q basic I think.

Worms, sadly i could not destroy the terrain which .. seemed very weird.
- But cool you can make your own maps.
A little music would have done a lot for the game.

did not see any QTE in the game though.

Developer

I didn't understand how you can't destroy the terrain, land destruction is what works best in this game haha. Can you explain what's going on?

Also, The "QTE" is the crosshair that appears on the Bazooka and the grenade. You need to press the button at the right time instead of aiming manually as in Worms, it seems to me that counts.

Submitted

Ahh well it said "bazooka" so naturally thought it would send a missile flying until hitting a surface.
-Apparently it only works on the crosshair :) nevermind.

Like i said, it did feel odd that it was not possible. So all good

Developer

Did you try to HOLD the bazooka button after aiming?
it increases the power and radius of the explosion.
Maybe you are not seeing the destruction because the explosion is very tiny if you just tap the button.
dont tap, hold! :)

I will update the instructions

Submitted (1 edit)

no no i saw the destruction now, which was what i were trying to tell you.

Its all good, very nice game.

Developer(+1)

oh I see, In worms the Bazooka works a bit different, I can see the confusion if you played that game.

Anyway, thanks, I've updated the instructions.
Providing clear instructions can help other people. :)

Blob! I love the fact that you can design the levels yourself, and I had fun making blobs :D
