I love the 2D visuals and the game's message. It is both exciting and sad seeing our bear getting both braver and better at masking his true self. Great work!
I didn't get to play because I don't have a controller, but I did watch it on stream with my husband who is autADHD and he understood what you were trying to convey pretty quickly with the "masking." So great job getting your message across!
This comment touched me so much! My husband showed it to me and I cried out of relief that what was in my head was understandable to other people like me. Thank you so much for your kind words.
cute!
Thank you! :)
I really like the art style and the gameplay was fun! Like others have said, adding keyboard and mouse support would be cool, but I think this is definitely a controller game. Great work!
We definitely focused a little too hard on just making it work for controller, but glad to see that you see the vision! We're also trying to brainstorm how the inputs would translate to mnk. I think currently the biggest hurdle is figuring out how accessing the "color wheel" part would translate. The easiest answer is with a mouse, but yea, feels like the idea still needs some fleshing out before actual implementation.
I can tell a lot of passion when into this project. The reliance on a controller though is pretty rough.
If you plan to continue this project, I would definitely iterate on different control schemes. Possibly even allow button remapping if needed.
I've been trying to theory craft how I would do a keyboard control (remapping shouldn't be too hard after that). I think walking and speaking buttons should be on W A S D - that should be pretty simple. But changing color is more complicated in my head. I'm currently taking the normalized direction from the left stick and mapping that to a color wheel. I'm unsure how to that with a mouse. But I will give it a shot with the first pass of any updates we do (along with other controller type support).
This was adorable! I personally struggled a bit because I only have a ps4 controller so I kept pressing the wrong X button lol some way to change the icons for other controllers would be nice. But I enjoyed it alot, it was fun looking into the little lives of gummy bears. Also towards the end of the dorm level I made it to the dog and was hoping for the dog to help refill my social battery, as it does for me lol but I realized the dog didn't help me after a few pets so I left. Reading the other comments I see that I missed the good boy ending, which is unfortunate. I'm still happy I got to pet the dog. Thanks for this :)
Thank you for pushing through with a different controller to play our game!
We originally did want the dog to refill your social battery, but unfortunately ran out of time to figure that part out. There are a few ways to get the good boy ending. (e.g. pat him three times or staying around him for 20 seconds)
Wish it had input alternatives, cause I don't have a controller. Screenshots look nice.
Thanks, I'm realizing that making a game designed for controller ONLY usable on a controller is preventing a lot of people from playing and leaving feedback. If we do a controller based game in the future we will be sure to have it still playable on mouse and keyboard.
Very very impressive! The VIBE of the game is incredible. Unlike a lot of other submissions, this one doesn't have a ton of obvious room for improvement. I mostly have questions. Is the difficulty random? I hope so, because I found myself worried an interaction might be long but then it wasn't. That relief was extremely relatable to social anxiety. Also, is the dorm level intentionally long, and then it kicks you out? I was finally getting good and pet the dog, but then it ended! Again, stellar work. I wish you both the best on future games!
Honestly thank you so much for the nice words.
Overall you've helped me think of a lot of things, especially with the ending, because if it feels like it kicks you out, then it might not be as clear or as impactful as we were going for, so I'll think of other ways to really hammer that home.
Thanks for replying! "Good boy ending" totally makes sense when you explain it, but it wasn't clear while playing. I also like having a level intended to make you fail from being overwhelmed. The mix of both was what caught me off guard. Too many good ideas!
How could yo done this good looking ui? Environment is really good and its cute they spread out to get you in. Loved it.
You'd need to be more specific on which UI because a couple are from Kenney's free asset packs, some are made by my wife, and some are made by me on Godot. We tried to blend all three together as best we can. She also had a color palette that we tried to stick to as much as we could.
The environments were all arranged by her, and we wanted the bears to make room for you when you joined the conversation! Glad you had such a good experience with our little gummy bears.
I meant the bear drawing in between scenes. Scene transition they were beatiful.
OH! Thank you so very much!! <3
Went through some old boxes to find my good ol' 360 controller for this one! Love everything about it from the music, 2D and 3D art, just amazing. Good job!
Thank you so much for digging up a controller to play our little game. It really does mean a lot!
Wanted to play it on Windows, since my interent suffer a bit now. But archive version contains html build.
Yes, there is not currently a build for Windows. Version 0.5.0 is technically downloadable, but it has been designed to be played here on itch. I may export a version for Windows & Linux, but that will be after the jam judging is over. Sorry you're unable to play our game, but will try and have different versions accessible in the future. Thanks for the feedback.
Nice artstyle and overall quality. Can definitly relate with tha bear XD
Appreciate the lovely words! It means a lot that you can relate to the bear! We tried to create an idea that at least was fun, relatable and at least have potential to start conversations.
This game looks incredibly cute and I wish I could play it, but I on't have controller =_=" Still have my applause for cute design and concept
Thank you so much for the kind words regardless!
Really appreciate everyone playing our game and giving feedback so far. We were able to get the audio bugs sorted, so it's much closer to what we intended for our release. Hope it adds as much as we think it does haha
Cute , liked the game , had so much fun <3
Thank you so much! We're both glad you had fun, and I'm sure the little gummy bears appreciate it too! :)
Very cute! I love how this game teaches about having social anxiety. I can see this mechanic working as part of an rpg like game if you ever expand on it. Great job!
Thank you so much!! We've had this idea for a bit, and just never got around to actually making it. Super glad that the jam gave us the motivation to tackle it! We'd love to actually make this into a real game. The original idea was to make managing social anxiety into a layered "Bop It" virtual experience. We obviously couldn't make it that complex within the time parameters, but we're glad we got to still create a version of it. Hopefully, we're able to make it into a full fledged Steam game someday.
Had to play it hard mode (with a PlayStation controller). Still had a good time! Also my instinct is to walk around with the left stick.
✖️⭕⏹️🔼 support is on our list haha <3
I'll have you know I dug out my controller *just* to try out y'alls game! Was very cute and worth me spending 4 minutes in the dark trying to get the USB plug to go in the right way :)
Thank you so much for doing that! The little gummy bears are really grateful too! :)
Really simple game, easy to follow. I just wished it had support for PS Buttons and the audio is working so I could play it with the proper experience.
Really appreciate the feedback. It's something we wanted to add as a feature (to detect what type of controller) but just ran out of time. Plan on making the updates as soon as the jam judging is over, we really enjoyed making the game and think it deserves to look more "whole"
