How does your game represent "Slick"?
Our goal is to make you experiment becoming the slickest human ever by each year making a choice among multiple randomly generated options (going to school, doing skateboard tricks, swimming with sharks, ..).

You get Slickness points whenever you make a cool choice and succeed at it.

“Can’t swim with sharks if you’ve got low constitution, but you can try, and you might die.”

really clever concept and consistently funny writing. the randomness leads to some amazing life stories. a super solid and memorable entry.

Developer(+1)

Thank you ! We're super glad the design we came up with works and you can actually get some funny and varied life stories :)

I wasn't potty trained until about 18 years old. I forgot how to read (hilarious), I earned a degree despite my illiteracy. I always had negative one dollars. A life well lived? I'd say so!

Developer

Ahah it's for this type of story that we made the game ! We planned on adding more perks like "Illiterate" that would affect the game UX direcly. It'll definitely come in the future :)

Thanks a lot for playing and liking the game !

I lived a long and slick life! As others have mentioned, having any kind of feedback about how the stat points are contributing to your chances on various cards would make a run-through feel deeper and more strategic. Since it's difficult to understand how the way you build stats currently affects a run, I found choices to feel random and get a little monotonous after 30-40 cards. Looking forward to any updates after the game jam, this is a neat life sim :)

Developer

Thank you for playing !

Yes we're already working on improving the game as well as fixing the balance and storyline breaks that are in the current version of the game :)

First I played Knack, then I became a Youtube, then I played some more Knack, met a Genie and went viral twice while doing Karaoke

Either this game is telling me stuff about my real life or I shouldn't worry too much

It's a lot of fun, slick, original and plain funny, great job!

Developer(+1)

If we had Steam success, you'd have definitely unlocked the "Experience the Dunkey life" success with that sequence omg.

Thanks a lot of playing, that's a slick life you had there !

Submitted(+3)

Played Knack like 6 times then sneezed and died. Good life.

Developer(+1)

That's the life !

Really liked this game! Loved all the perks you could get. Forgot how to read when I was about 30, but still managed to join book clubs and make friends. Hopefully my real life is going to be as fun as my life was in here XD

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing ! Glad you liked it :)

Held out on potty training until age 28. Really fun presentation and a great take on the life sim game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks ! I love how everyone mentions at what age they got potty trained, it'll never stop being funny xD

Submitted(+3)

Okay I'm NOT a very slick baby (56y/o) but that was really fun! Nice work.

Developer

Thank you !

I started potty training at 38 years old... it didn't go well.

All jokes aside, this is a funny little life sim that I quite enjoyed. I wanted to play to the end, but I accidentally clicked one of the cards as soon as it appeared on the screen which softlocked the game.

I don't know if the game does this already (I couldn't tell), but I think it would be cool if had a higher chance of succeeding at an activity based on the stats I have (more strength would help with sports, more brain would help with driver's test, etc).

Developer

Thank you for playing :)

Yes that is exactly the intent ! Your strategy in the game should be to gather good stats which will help you have more chance at succeeding activities, which will give you slickness, more stats or perks !

Unfortunately, we were a bit short on time so we couldn't properly balance all the cards, and because of that this feature is not super well represented :/

It's a shame you were soft locked and didn't reach the end of the game, we have implemented plenty of ways to die :D

The text at the bottom of some of the cards was hard to read (but this was in the Web browser version).

Hovering over the skills and having the highlight outline change made me think it was a button.

The little mini games like spin the wheel etc. seemed pretty fun, letting the user do an extra click on the wheel itself might help engage them in the gamble a bit more!

Wasn't exactly sure what the downward facing hand was doing.
(I realized after getting it a few times, it seems to be the slickness value changer)

Funny that I could go to the gym at 7y.o haha.
I also did my first potty training at 16y.o and failed :O
Apparently got my first job at 41y.o

Fun that it keeps the history of certain events like "You now have a bully" in the bottom left.
I ended up beating them in a fight at a later stage and thought this would remove them as my bully but apparently not.

Cool premise, well done for a week of development time, can see a future for it, would be really cool to have some sort of animations/visuals alongside what happens. Definitely want to fine tune what happens when and add more options in the future! I look forward to seeing how the game grows.

Hey,  thanks a lot for the review. We're really proud on what we produced, especially since we all have daily work and had to work on the game in our free time.

We might not win the jam, given that balance is jank, quite a few bugs and missing some hooks as you grow older, but we definitely do see a future for the game ! The backbone is there, it's just a matter of content and polish now :)

Thanks a lot for playing and giving your detailed feedback !

PS: the "downward facing hand" is a sunglasses icon, to represent slickness :p

Developer(+2)

Thanks a lot for trying the game. There is still so much to polish and so many thing we want to add but we are also pretty proud of the current state of the game. I just had a look at your page (At work so no time to play) and it looks pretty crazy ^^ I love skate games!

This game is funny.  Do I want to finally get potty trained or start a podcast?  Do I want to touch a weird slime or go to therapy?  Do I want to have a kid at 50 years old or get a haircut?  These are the decisions life is made of

Developer

That's exactly what we had in mind when making the game ! Thanks for playing :D

I got  a bug where i clicked back into the page (full screen web) but i accidently clicked on one of the cards i didnt pick and then that card just stayed there - no other cards visually spawned but i could still click them and continue.

Cool concept and presentation.

Do your stats matter? like is the strength making the excercise roles better luck or is that all determined by luck?

Developer(+1)

Hey, thank you for playing and reporting that bug, we'll have a look :)

Stats do matters when calculating odds of various outcomes on cards ! For example you have less chance of getting bullied when picking the "Go to school" card if you've got high constitution and low intelligence :p

Submitted(+1)

Ye nice, hoped so but couldn't quite tell. Very slick.

Submitted(+2)

There were few bugs in the game but they made the game a whole lot better. learning to potty train at age 35 is an interesting life :D

Overall really fun game!

Developer

Thank you for playing ! Glad that you liked the game :D Also the potty training card doesn't go away until you succeed at it, it's not a bug, it's a feature :p

Submitted(+1)

Oh lol. Great game design then :)

Developer

Thanks !
