How does your game represent "Slick"?
You need to use items and your inventory in a strategic way, like switching between torch and sword. This should feel like you need to be "clever" in terms of slick.

The presentation is incredible. The details, even down to the stylized inputs are quite impressive given the time constraints. The gameplay however, is a total slog. Maybe I'm impatient, but the walking speed is sooo slow. Excellent art direction, the animations are captivating.

i would like to reiterate everyone else’s feelings, the art direction, sound design, atmosphere and overall vibe of this game are so immaculate and on point i felt like this was professional done! To make this into a finished product in the future would be amazing! great game
the pixel art is stunning, took me a second to figure out the controls but i love the vibe
Firstly, I want to say the music, atmosphere, Zelda like feel, and concept are beautifully done. It feels so original and creative. I was a bit confused at first but once you get further into it, it starts to click. I think this feeling unfinished makes a lot of sense, it is so ambitious! I want to see this become a full game, I love the puzzle feel. Sorry you couldn't get more done like you wanted but what is here is fantastic and I think lays a lot of groundwork for a full game! A diamond in the rough for sure, this has so much potential.
I absolutely adore your sprite work. It and the music create this world that I want to stay in for hours and hours, even if it feels unfinished. It feels like a darker, more personal Secret of Mana.
I need to play more of this. The art is amazing as always, the sounds when there are sounds fit the game well. I move way too slow when I'm not using the gem to the point where it feels like a literal crawl. If that's done on purpose, then of course great job, but for me it made it kind of frustrating, especially given the fact how fast you can die and how jank some of the hitboxes can feel.
The inventory system, although fun, I think needs to really separate usable items from materials. This might be a fun suggestion to experiment with:
Instead of using Q&E for swapping back & forth, have both keys scroll forward through 2 different rows of items, then whenever you press the button to the corresponding row, it will put that item in your usable slot. This way you can kind of create patterns of combos and items Final Fantasy Black Mage style! Idk just a suggestion hahaha
Art and mood are immaculate, as expected. I think this just isn't my type of game. It's strategic, and swapping between items to be optimal was fun, but it's definitely a crawl, and a challenging one! It seems like that was definitely what you were going for, so good stuff.
presentation is gorgeous. the inventory management is quite deep for a game jam, impressive. i wish i can keep my selected item up between rooms though. the game is very challenging as well. fun and beautiful game.
Using darkness as an obstacle is such an interesting concept! I liked being on my toes the whole time. The collection of inventory items were also enough and sensible considering this is a game jam. Awesome work guys 👍
Do make sure to play and rate our game as well (it might take a minute for it to load)
Good looking pixel art! Really difficult too, it is a bit annoying that your equipped items don't stay selected between area transitions, but I really enjoy the mood. Bravo!!
