I've finally scratched a 40 year itch and created a football manager style game... with a difference. You can find it here:

It's based on non-league football, complete with many of the bizarre events that make managing a non-league team challenging. 

The game works well as a single player game, but also supports up to 4 players. It's quite quick to play - a single player season takes less than an hour - and is deliberately very different in style to the (brilliant!)  commercial Football Manager games.
