How does the game fit the theme?
A racing game in the bloodstream should definitely qualify as a strange place! But also, the main theme of the game, Athero(sclerosis), is the build-up of fat and plaques, cholesterol, etc. in veins. That's a strange place for the body to put these things!

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
We did not make the font, the blur shader (yay godotshaders), some of the sound samples are from zapsplat and freesound.org (they're all edited), everything else is handmade

Two People worked on our game so we'll both leave our impressions.

Neri:

Liked the game overall, not my style, the music being on beat was a nice touch and i liked the chainsaw sounds.

Gameplay was fun but i would have liked if the lumps of fat, or whatever the yellow stuff is, where shown on the map as being punished with a bad time just cuz its my first time playing felt kinda not nice.

Loved being able to see my frevious runs as colored markers.

I would add a retry button in case i wanna stop that attempt and restart.

I was faster on the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th levels but not by much as we both dumb fucks who cant memorize speed boost positions to save our lives.

MarioMario7:

I won't repeat what my friend has already said.

I absolutely loved the concept, very unique(seriously, how did you come up with this?? XD) The music being on beat with the heart beat was a super nice touch.

Also, I was deffo the better blood unclotter, idk what Neri was saying smh

Thanks for the feedback! Both of you!
The minimap markers is a good idea, and I will get it added post-jam!

There is a retry button (R) but it's only shown in the game's description. Reset is also accessible from the escape/pause menu, but we also didn't show the option for that in game either. I guess we show the in-game controls it in the level select somewhere, maybe...

Thanks for playing all the levels! Love that you're comparing times, haha, our team has been doing that throughout the whole week haha

When it comes to the game’s concept, it’s really original and a very interesting take on the theme. I needed a moment to understand what was going on, but overall it’s a really cool game!

Very unique and cool idea! And very cool adition to the razing genre.

I am not sure if the controls convince me. I like how the nanobot only moves in the direction youre pointing when theres a heartbeat but I would made it like it will be faster if you stay in the center of the vein; hurting the vessel seems like a bad think (I had to read the description to realize I was actually donig good making it bleed) and also, idk how it should be done but i find it pretty hard to collision with the plaques when thats the reason the nanobot is in the body in the first place, and it doesnt seem too punishing to not clear them.

On the overall, I love the idea and the mechanics a lot but I think it needs some more polishing and testing on how the mechanics work to make a really amazing game with this idea

Developer

Hi! thanks for your reply. I understand you see the grinding on the blood vessel edges counterintuitive. The original idea was to have way more plaque on the edges. But we also wanted the player to make choices within the level. This is why we chose to place the plaque at certain areas instead of all over the edges. We were still convinced that gliding on the edges was a fun game mechanic to gain speed.

The plaque gives a big speed boost. This is why we made it a bit harder to collide with it.  But there are routes where you can collide with all of them and get an tremendous amount of speed! This is what you need to get those shiny golden medals on all the tracks! Were you able to get some nice medals?

nice take on the theme, this has some potential in terms of player movement and power-ups!

This is a very cool game, I don't have much to say in terms of feedback, sure the game could look and sound a little better, and the transitions could be a lot smoother, but overall its incredible. If you want to continue development, I'd suggest looking into game feel and making the "car" feel much nicer to drive. Other than tha,t amazing

9/10 :D

This is very fun, and challenging to do well on! I spent several runs just getting to bronze :)

Okay, this is truly an amazing concept. After a couple of tries you really get into the rhythm of switching sides and grinding walls towards new PB. Amazing! Having your PB ghost is a great touch, makes replaying levels that much more addicting.

I didn't thought I was going to end my day surfing inside someone's veins! I love the concept and the execution is well done, a bit of a tutorial at the beginning would definitely help understand the  heartbeats mechanic.

This is super cool. I love the whole racing in a blood vessel idea, it felt super unique and interesting. The game felt extremely enjoyable to play, and it's really satisfying running through the track at super high speed. Though it's a bit counterintuitive in the first round, as it's strange you "add" speed when scraping the edge of the track. Aren't destroying the walls of the blood vessels harmful to your body? XD

Other things I like:

  • Tying acceleration with the heat beat. Feels really clever and matches the whole feel of the game
  • Short and punchy tracks
  • Can't believe you got time to make the PB ghost in each level

Suggestions:

  • I think the UI looks less polished and too simple when comparing with the game content, which is a shame cause that is what people make their first impression on
  • The gold, silver, and bronze scores are very harsh, especially when paired with the unique control of the game
  •  It would be nice to have some turn indicators, given the pacing of the game, players won't have enough time to process the minimap and plan accordingly
  • I would also suggest making the pulse visual more visible. Maybe a full-screen width animation.

Anyway, this is a really nicely done and polished game! Well done to all of you.

Developer

Glad you liked it! The UI is definitely something I am not satisfied with, but sadly we ran out of time at the end to redesign it. We were thinking about adding an upcoming turn indicator, but we didn’t get around to implementing it.

Nailed the concept! A very unique take on the “Strange Place” theme. Nice work!

Very interesting mechanic and controls, good job there!

I had  a good time, it was a lot of time since I played a 2d racing game

Keep it up

The music is good, but I'm not really sure how the controls work. Great game overall.
