How does the game fit the theme?
"Liminal Spaces" are very "Strange Places". For my game I tried to create worlds capturing this atmosphere of liminal spaces.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Most of my materials (textures) are from ambientCG.
The humming sound of the fluorescent light bulb is from pixabay

The sounds made with the mouth made me laugh a lot. It's an interesting game and well done considering it was made by one person. Good job!

Wow some of Wooden Door's finest voice acting! I hope they win an oscar for that performance, had me in tears :') Seriously cool game, I love surprises and there were a few :) Especially wowed with the planet room. Great game!

The sound effects when I either get devoured or fall into the void was hilarious.

The visuals of the various areas were incredibly done and well-designed.

I just wish that I understand the gameplay more because I keep falling off the platforms due to missing jumps or getting hit by those moving balls, or I just get caught by one of those strange people waiting at the door.

I'm very amazed how the strange places theme is being applied here and using the liminal space to showcase that.

There is a lot of variety in how the game could end and the various interactions that take place after opening doors.

It's alright. First you explore and gamble, then you just gamble. I would suggest get rid of stamina bar - it annoying on platformer level and just kills you once on the final. Room with many doors looks fun first but then when you need to check all of them and they are the same it isn't that great. Would be nice to have something more exiting in the end since it took quit a few attempts to achieve it but I understand that time is limited.

Maybe the fun we were supposed to get to was to be found along the way. It worked for me anyways.

Oh very cool! Loved it! I would liek a little more of sound ambience but fro a solo in 7 days thsi is very well done!

I understand that what's behind the doors is random, but my god, I keep dying devoured by the creature of the dark hand or fall into the void all the time

I really liked the idea of the game, the unsettling atmosphere is very well, you've done a great job for solo! I would really like to be able to complete it but I'm the unluckiest person in history, I've played for around 25-30 minutes, I've done about 30 or 40 runs and I'm not able to escape.

PD Extra points for the "waaaaah" when you fall into the void, I loved it hahahaha

EDIT: I'm on Discord with my friend and I just saw him in stream beat up the game on his second try, I'm definitely cursed

Incredible work for solo. I do wish there was a bit more background music or ambiance, but it was a week, beggars can't be choosers. The concept was pretty good, even if I kept getting snatched. the little "Whaaaah" when getting grabbed was my favorite part.

First of all, you finished a game that looks great overall — and achieving that in just 7 days, especially for a solo developer, is impressive. Great job!

Things I liked:

  • I think it’s a good and original idea with strong potential.

  • I really like the SFX when the player is caught — I found them very funny!

  • It’s a short but complete game with an ending, which is already a big achievement for a solo developer in a jam.

Constructive Feedback:

  • I would suggest developing the narrative further, as I think that’s where the game could gain the most quality and depth.

  • Additionally, it would be great to include more types of puzzles besides the platforming and chasing sections. Taking inspiration from escape room–style games could be very useful.

  • Finally, adding background music could help players feel more immersed in the game world.

Great little game ! The ambience is well done. Lack of a small music to make it perfect.

cool concept and well done! these are just strange places.

I love the falling and death sound effect lol It was really clever and well executed. I wish the large room full of doors had slightly less doors. It started to feel a little tedious after doing it I think 3 times in 1 run.

I really like the concept, It's really cool idea but I don't get if I can fight against those hand somehow? I tried sitting and waiting but hand wouldn't go away :(. Nevertheless hands are pretty cool and there is nice amount of variety of the room so good job!

nice idea. it is possible to make it meaningful

i like the concept and the visuals and the sound effects (the death sounds caught me off guard XD). i managed to escape. however, the game is kind of repetitive and keeps showing the same rooms (i rarely got the parkour room tbh). the hand that grabs u also looks astonishing (especially the knocking as well for a warning). overall, really nice game with an impressive attention to detail.

I actually made the same idea. Your game is really great and fits the theme perfectly, but I just couldn't take the death sound effect seriously

Developer

I guess there must be something intrinsically strange and mysterious about walking through doors. I gave your game a try and it was a great experience too!
