How does the game fit the theme?
You play as a baby crow who explores an abandoned supermarket to build self-confidence and to make mom proud.

The supermarket is a strange and unfamiliar place for our main character crow.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I used two fonts and two clips of audio (the footstep sounds) from a Youtube video. These are credited in the game itself and on the upload page. Everything else was created from scratch during the jam duration.

Okay now this makes a lot more sense, now I know story behind it

Funny and cool game, especially as a solo dev first game jam, good job :)

Really impressive work getting everything done as a solo dev in your first jam!

I feel like it's rare to see narrative games in a jam and you made one that was both sweet and funny. I was genuinely invested in what was giong to  happen after I came back from that final trip, haha.

Some of the little details are the things that really made it: moving in litle bird "hops", the "Days" sign constantly updating.

The only feedback I would have is that it would be nice for the sponge puzzle to be more naturally integrated rather than needing to spell it out in the description, but I assume that was probably due to time limitations. Otherwise it was a really great experience!

I like how the movement actually feels like you're hopping around as a little bird instead of just walking with a bird skin on. Nice touch. The interactions between the baby and mom were wholesome too. "We're crows, aren't we?" cracked me up lol. I also like the subtle detail of the sun getting lower as you progress to the later levels. And the sponge mechanic was a fun curveball to keep it from feeling too samey. This was a really sweet game. Short, charming, and memorable.

Cute and charming game.
Solid work for a solo developer.
Feel free to check out our game too!

Great game, 10/10 would help my deadbeat mom again!

Jokes aside, loved almost everything about it. After the final errand, when mom wasn't home, I actually got upset haha

If I had to nitpick, I think having some more variation in the gameplay would have made it perfect, like maybe climbing on top of objects or even a limited flying mechanic as little birdie learns to fly better.

Thank you for a great experience!

This is so cute and fun! I love the comedy in the dialogue between mama and baby bird and the idea of being a bird walking around a grocery store is so silly and lovable. I think it was really great how you designed the movement mechanics - it really felt like how a bird would walk around. The SFX in everything from the footsteps to the bird talking was so lovable and charming. My only suggestion would be to make the store part of the game longer. The text is adorable, but went on a bit long sometimes. I like the idea of making it a bit of a maze - but man it would've been cool if there were giant people walking around or something to help make the place feel more lively. Otherwise this is fantastic!

Cute game, I liked it.

Its simple but charming :) One time I got stuck in between the open fridge door and the obstacle, but luckily there is a retry level button.

I also liked the blocky movement as it felt more bird-like :D

Good job :]

very unique interpretation of the theme,  the unorthodox movement controls are also really funny haha.. one of my favourites so far, great job on this :)

This was a very fun play. I really liked the crow conversations between objectives. Also love how this ties in with the jam theme.

This was great! I loved the movement of the crow and the sound effects, and the ability to sprint quickly. It really gave the feel of being a bird in a supermarket (certainly a strange place!). I also loved the cutscenes in the nest, and the intro with the days ticking up that was then included in the dialogue was neat.

The spill/sponge mechanic is a good one, but could definitely do with more explaining (I wouldn't have got it without reading your hint in the game page). Once I understood it I went for the sponge every time in case there was a spill. I also liked the different mazes. It made a small world feel bigger.

Great work, particularly for a first game jam.

I've just come back to say this was my favourite game of the Jam. Really well done :D

Really creative and cute idea. Good work :D

Developer

Thank you! :)

I loved the theme interpretation, of taking something mundane to us and showing it through the perspective of someone who finds it big & scary. I wanted that strangeness to persist in some way (e.g by the world changing each task)

Developer

I agree, the concept was to have the strange place change each time to keep the strangeness high, but I was unable to do so. Appreciate the feedback!
Thanks for playing!

Such a cute game. And my heart jumped a bit at the end.

Thank you so much!

good game, cute characters, but i got stuck at the milk level.

Developer(+1)

Sorry for that, it was not clear that you can interact with the 'cleaning trolley' - thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Cute story, enjoyed the sillyness. Didn't really get the milk puzzle but solved it anyway. The movement was nice and felt really bird like

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! Tried very hard to not call it a dungeon crowler..
