How does the game fit the theme?
Guests come to your party from strange places that bring odd demands for you to adhere to. My thought was your house is the normal place and the aliens that come to your party are from the strange place, that was my twist on it. Keep the vibes high so the party can keep going!

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All scratch. Should be obvious I made the song in under 10 minutes.

Got a score of 49, and I don't think I can fit any more aliens in the room. The alien partying thing is such a wholesome idea that we should see more. Let's have some fun hey? I think the game mechanic is interesting and I do see some potential, but it would work way better if it were level-based instead. It felt a bit unfair when all available spaces on the dance floor were filled to the brim, and imagine how fun it would be to have new rules introduced to the player level by level, and having a super complex level as the final level!

Suggestions:

  • The rules would be easier to read if they were simplified with all names removed. It would be nice to have the rules shown on demand too, like a button or something to show the rule window
  • Some animations for the alien would make the game super cute. They are partying right?

These are great suggestions, thank you for your feedback and time!

Nice concept, I enjoyed it,I got a score of 51!

The idea is simple but engaging.
Great work for solo dev!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on our game as well if you get the chance.

I really enjoy Bosca Ceoil. I can't hype it enough.

Good game! The way you explain the theme is quite interesting.

I do know a game with similar core experience (seat arrangement) <<Is This Seat Taken?>>, maybe it could be a good inspiration for your possible following development?

This was a brilliant take on the theme. The concept of the game is very cool and I could definitely see this being a longer game with multiple aliens/environments to puzzle over.

My main gameplay frustration was that I repeatedly got Ding Dings that were impossible to place. Maybe I just misunderstood, but I got like 5-6 of them that wanted to be near the table and near the door, so it wasn't possible to place. Not sure if this was intentional but left me with a feeling of "ah I can't manage this, better just shove them far from everything"

But overall this was honestly a great idea. With some visual polish I could see this being a really fun and expandable game! I had fun playing it

Developer(+1)

59 is the current world record! Sorry for the difficulty with the Ding Dings, their species rule is just needing eye sight of the door, not proximity. I shoot a ray cast and see if anybody is blocking it. If time permitted I would have liked to include a dotted line indicator for the 2 vision related rules. Thank you for your time and feedback.

The how to play section was a bit confusing but cleared out as soon as the game started and understood

I like the visuals turning red and green so you can understand as you place them

The different rules make for fun management where I know I need to clear a path to the door and also not crowd the food table or the dance floor

It was quite fun

It would be nice for it to get some better art and maybe more polish

Maybe also see score as you play

I also wasn't sure if rules of already placed aliens still apply in the future

for example if Alien A wanted to see the door so when it was placed it was okay, but later when I placed another alien infront of it does that affect score or not

If that's the case being able to move aliens around maybe would be nice as you try to manage all of them

Then you could try to keep everyone happy for a bit (day cycle) and then buy more stuff (bigger dance floor, more doors, more food tables, or a larger space in general)

Developer

I'm glad you recognized the different type of rules, it was purposeful to get us thinking spatially in different ways. I agree with you the score needed more juice, I was trying to think up how each alien could show how they are effecting it without crowding up the screen. Each alien does continuously check, if the vibe is already steadily high, it could be hard to tell. It would have been cool to add a way to move them around after being placed, I was thinking like 1 or 2 moves for a hefty penalty. Great idea buying items for the party! Thank you for your time and feedback.

Very coolio! Overall fun concept and this theme implementation is actually pretty nice! You should check our game as well!

This has big "I have no idea what I'm doing and I love it" vibes. Cute aliens, cute concept, and has the bones of a solid chill puzzlers.

Enjoyment: Very nice and quick game session, had so much fun to go play a 2nd and 3rd round, try certains things out. Heres probably more design space to be explored.

Gameplay: Easy Controls, easy to learn and meaningful to train mechanics, nice job.

Innovation: Liked the set of rules introduced here, as mentioned above I see also potential for further enhancement.

Theme: Like the application of the theme towards setting AND gameplay, while making it feel natural - Great job!

Visuals: Probably the weak spot of the submission, the pixel art & perspective of the door and room are promising, would have loved if the alien creatures received more love - but I guess this was due to remaining time. Same goes for the vibe meter.

Audio: It's fine, not loving it, but also not hating the track - but I missed a volume option.

Overall very good submission!

Simple concept that works quite well.

It would be nice if you could see your score going up while playing, but then you lose a bit the factor of surprise at the end of course :D At some point I almost ran out of space.

I got to 44 btw image.png

Well done :]

That was fun! I love the idea it's pretty cute and creative.  I'd hang with a Florgian

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

For you I will give Florgian prototype image that was used.

I ended up getting a 42 — so close to your 48 lol.

Really cool idea for a game. I liked the concept of aliens showing up with specific conditions and having to manage the house party around that. The drag-and-drop system worked well, and juggling the vibe meter with limited space made it more stressful in a good way.

Nice take on the theme. Definitely a creative spin on Strange Places.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad it made you stressed lol. That is what I was reaching for without going overboard. I wanted to also make music that ramped up in craziness as the number of aliens went up but that was a stretch goal.

Sweet Game.
Maybe the Alians should have little more variety with there needs?

Developer

I hear ya, I ended with 6 total, would have loved to get over 10 :// I thought one future rule could be some random aliens don't want to stand next to a plant in the corner, something about not liking oxygen or maybe the color green.

Very cool is this seat taken kind of game.  Nice Job

What a fun game! Even once you get the hang of it, you have to really try and plan ahead. My high score was 45.

Waiting for the lore drop on the Snar-Ding Ding conflict.
Fun game! I liked the music :)

Fun concept! I like the different patrons. It took a few misplaces to figure out what the icons meant, but then it made sense. Nice job!

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! I think the idea is great, and the execution worked well. I think you might want to add a mute button to the game, as while the music is nice for the first 3 minutes, after that it becomes quite jarring.

I also think this could work with e.g. hex or square grids quite well, if you want to take the idea further. One problem I kept having is that as the floor becomes more crowded, I have spaces that are just too tight for placing an alien in there.

Overall an enjoyable puzzle game!

My high score was 41 :)
