Fun idea!

I love the hand-drawn graphics (especially the ship) and the gameplay is quite intriguing. Hitboxes felt pretty fair too.

Had to quit at the canons though, since I had no Idea where to go to escape those pesky pirates. The game either could be easier / have an optional easy mode or the time between respawns could be reduced to make dying a bit less of a punishment imo.

But up to that point the game was fun, nice work!

I liked the way the game introduced a new obstacle each level but I got very stuck on the pirate level - there were way too many cannonballs for me to dodge.  I'm assuming the next two mechanics would have been even harder so an easy mode would have been nice for me.  At least I got to see a lot (probably all) of the funny little death lines.

The moving where you are aiming thing was very nice too.  It made you glance around up ahead for obstacles/treasures and then commit them to memory before snapping back to avoiding the rocks and islands right in front of you, very cool.

Yeah the levels get harder. I think level 4 with the octopus is a bit easier but the final level with ghost ships is the harder again. Thanks for playing. I hope you enjoyed it a little and were not too frustrated.

Cool concept! Really elegant movement mechanic and nice hand drawn art style made for a fun combination.

It got too hard for me once I encountered the sea monster. After about 10 tries I got too frustrated. And I honestly think I just got lucky with the cannonball level haha.

Good job!

The difficulty of the game was something hard to get right. The cannonball level was significantly harder originally and I kept making it easier but it is always hard to account for my skill level after having practiced it a bunch of times. Glad you were able to get through it. The levels do get a bit harder. I think the octopus level was a bit easier than the cannonball one but the final level with ghost ships is difficult.

I love the idea of controlling the ship with the light cone, it encourages more awareness of the level layout and surroundings and kept me on edge! good job with that. I wasn't always sure about the size of the colliders of the objects though, which made estimating moves a bit tricky. good job though!

Developer

Yeah the hitboxes were tough. I tried to get some tips in the How to play section but thinking maybe I should have put examples from more of the rocks instead of the island. Thanks for playing!

Cool concept, artwork, and writing. This has a good distinctive style and mood. The difficulty was quite on the higher side for me. Good entry overall!

The game mechanic of revealing a cone through the darkness was great, especially tied with the ship navigating towards what you're pointed at, so you gotta just peak, see an obstacle and then move away to steer.

I found the music quite chilled out for the context we are in, but I did like it on its own.  I also appreciate how simple and effective the art is!

I like this concept, it is original. Sounds are fit and I really like the art.

Maybe one more thing that little bit bothered me were colliders, as mentioned others, sometimes wasn’t clear for me the interactions of ship and obstacles (and also skill issue).

I enjoyed this entry and it is great work!

Developer

To keep it fair all the sounds I found were royalty free I found for use. I didn't make any of the sounds myself so it feels wrong to get rated on it.

The octopus and ghost ship levels are demonic lmao I swear I felt so relieved after seeing the doc instead of a crazy wave of ghost ships. Loved that mechanic the best too, having to look away to see was very cleaver. Great job!

The different comments from the captain when I sink the ship were very funny! I found a bit hard to understand clearly where the ship was going and i hit something with a very tight margin. Otherwise really liked this submission, very original take on the theme

Yeah the hit boxes was something I was never happy with. I kept adjusting them over and over and it never felt great. I ended up just conceding that I didn't have time to make it perfect and tried to improve other aspects of the games.

I think it's a universal challenge for side scrolling, tbh. I get the same feeling sometimes when playing classic beat em up like TMNT or The Simpsons, really hard to tell the exact position of things during gameplay

A pretty interesting and original concept well-executed. Some levels (cannon balls) were pretty challenging, but I enjoyed adapting to each new mechanic. Great job!

Developer

I was worried some of the levels would be too difficult. It is always hard to judge. Funny enough the pirate level was originally a lot harder but after 20 attempts myself I had to keep toning it down.
