How does the game fit the theme?
Miss Strange places theatre guests in their seats. Funny pun isn't it? And the guests are also a bit strange with their pointy teeth!
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Everything was done from scratch except sound effects from free libraries.
How many people worked on the game?2

Man it hurts starting to mop a puddle right when a guest comes in xD
Overall very cute visuals and a cohesive/polished feel ^^ One odd thing I noticed: the seat 10 in row D overlaps with the cushion stack a bit, making it hard to interact with the guest there.
And I wish there was some more kind of planning involved when choosing your path through the room, maybe with more less urgent tasks or interactibles.
It was nice to play once, I don't know if I would play it again, maybe not my style of game -> it would need some more mechanics to keep me motivated I think, but overall very cute and I loved that the orchestra tuned in the first phase, that was a super nice touch!
Thank you for playing! We wanted to include so much more but there was no time left. We are a bit rusty, it's our first game after many years but we had fun making it :D
I'm the artist, but I was also in charge of music and I love listening to the orchestra tuning before a show so I had to include it! We were afraid it would become too repetitive, I'm glad someone else liked it :)
This was pretty cool! Although for a long while, I did not even know they were asking for pillows and had no idea where I could get them, so I got a lot wrong in the beginning. I also ran into a bug where one of the guests was behind a seat. Otherwise, this was pretty fun!
Thank you for the review! We wanted to include a tutorial at the beginning but there was not enough time. I'm glad you had fun playing! :)
Very fun small game with a nice rounded gameplay loop, loved the art.
As others mentioned only sound effects mainly. So well done!
This could go well where you expand into other scenarios, perhaps where Miss Strange is working different jobs that require this fast pace gameplay loop.
Thank you! In the beginning we planned several more tasks (selling ice cream/programs, accompany guests around the theater) but didn't have time to implement them sadly. But it would be cool to have her doing different jobs in a monster world :D
Really love the concept. The designs of the different guests are cute and you can get some funny seating's like a whole line full of bear?fox? the small guy in a tuxedo XD. There could be some improvements like the first portion sometimes the guests would not wait at all and go straight to a random seat and I had no idea I had to give pillows out until I saw them . Overall good job.
Artist here, thank you so much! The small guy seems to have become a fan favorite :D I imagined him as a hamster monster and called him Mr. Ham, but now everyone calls him a bear, so I guess he has become Mr. Ham-bear? ahah
Thank you for the feedback, we wanted to add so much (like a tutorial at the beginning) but there was no time left. The fact that some guests ignore you and go to their seats is intentional! Some are young and impatient, and fire monsters are too hotheaded ;D
This is such a fun and unique game. in the second phase I was literally like "DONT YOU DARE"when someone held their camera out and I barely had time left to catch them. The chaos of compounding tasks had me laughing, my incompetence in the first phase cannot be understated. Brilliant game, wish there were more sounds, perhaps a grunt or grumble according to each guests appearence.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you had fun playing! We wanted to record sounds for each guest and action in the game but sadly we barely made it in time with the music! Fun fact: the "sssh" sound before the music was my own voice! XD
Very cute! I really like the idea, and it's fairly well executed
A couple notes:
The first phase really felt a bit odd. It might have made more sense if there were multiple points characters could come in through, but I was kind of confused why I needed to move at all, and not just have a rapid-fire "here's the correct seat" instead. I also could not understand what to go with the yellow cta on characters during this phase.
There seemed to be a bug where a character would cut its wait time and go to its seat immediately if you replace another character while the first one is waiting.
Anyway, good job, thank you for the game!
Thank you for the feedback!! Yeah we should have had some kind of tutorial at the start but not enough time sadly.
The main reason the player would want to move from the entry is to mop the puddles (that will make monster unhappy when they go through them) or bring pillows when requested.
The bug you found is interesting, I'll look into it but there are quite a few monsters that won't wait for you to seat them. For example the leafy baby will immediately go to a random seat, while the "impatient" ones with fire/red theming will have a shorter wait time.
Thank you again :D
Ooh I see, that's neat! I think it would be nice if they had a special visual cue to suggest that's why they're not waiting or something. I noticed some would wait less ling but didn't realize it was the fiery ones, that's cute.
I noticed the puddles, but there were so little it didn't really feel that noticeable, and the pillows I actually did not understand that's what they were asking for, I didn't notice those! But I guess that's the sort of thing that gets fine with a tutorial
I love the take on the theme!
Thank you! We wanted to think outside the box and we saw that the word "place" originated from the Latin platea, a word that in Italian (our language) indicates the stalls of a theater. That is where the whole idea started :D
I loved the game! It's really fun and the artistic style really fits. It would be great if the monsters had some kind of indicator if they're in the wrong seat, but other than that, I really enjoyed it.
Artist here, thank you so much! You can't imagine how many times I tried to convince the developer (my boyfriend) to put that feature in the game but alas he was convinced it would make the game too easy! Thank you for making me win the argument XD
very cool and fast game, i felt like i was actually working there XD the art is so awesome and the bear-like guy is so cute! nice game guys :D
Artist here, thank you so much for your review! Fun fact: the monster you like was born from a watercolor splash XD I needed inspiration to make all those different characters, so I splashed some color on a page and tried to find shapes that made sense. He was the first one I made and my partner instantly fell in love with him. I thought of him as a monster hamster, and called him Mr. Ham, but now that you mention it I see the resemblance with a bear! OoO
Here's the first sketch :D
I LOVE YOU MR HAM!!!
Very cool and stylish game! It has those flash games vibe so it was very nostalgic for me hahaha, good job! :)
Thank you! It wasn't the intention during development but yeah it is a bit reminiscing of old flash games :D loves those as well when growing up
Amazing art on the game!
Doing all that by yourselves is really really good!
Well done!
Artist here, thank you so much, I'm so glad you loved the art! I've never drawn so much like in the last week, coming up with 15 different monsters was so hard and I almost lost my mind making the theater. It's not perfect, but I'm so proud of myself for finishing it :)
I really enjoyed playing this game, the visuals and music are really good! It fits the theme well!
Artist here, thank you so much! The orchestra tuning at the beginning is from a free sounds library, but the show music I made myself! I'm not a composer in any way, but I had so much fun messing with Garage Band :D
Wow have played now a bunch of the jam games and this one is in the top 2. Nice gameplay, cute guests, just the perfect balance of challenging and fun, nice music and the end score screen rounds it up! Very Nice!!
Thank you so much for the review, that is high praise! :D We loved your game as well!
Good game where you have to stay focused. Things get challenging when the room fills up. Well done on your game.
Thank you! We tried to balance it as much as possible, I wonder if anyone can get a perfect score ;D
It's a fun game, it's a pity that you can't speed up by pressing the shift button. Completely passed, I liked it.
Nice score! :D Thank you for the review!
Something I love: I love the art so much! I actually really enjoy how hectic it is, and having to organize the guests after they sat wherever they wanted is a super fun and satisfying touch! I love how it wasn't just about sitting them, it was THE WHOLE DEAL lol. I also really loved the score board at the end! I love how tight the controls / collision boxes are.
Things I wish were in the game: I wish instead of clicking on the seat for the guest to go to, you would actually walk them there. Doing this would also pout some pressure on the player to hurry and also try not to mess up. They would probably need a sprint system or something for this lol. (What you have is great tho! Just thought I should throw that idea out there)
Bugs I found: None! :)
Overall: This was a lovely sweet short game! I recommend anyone to try it! I definitely think you should post this around more because its super cute and fun! Great work!
Artist here, I'm so glad you loved the art! We wanted to implement so much more before the deadline but we had to sleep sometimes ahah. Thank you so much for leaving such detailed feedback :)
A great game that I really liked. Its rating is unfair Why did it only get 4 Rate it. I'm speaking honestly. The game is great. Post on the community to get people to watch your game
Wow, thank you for the praise! Yeah, we're pushing hard on the community forum to get more reviews, let's hope to get more XD
Fun Game!😁
