Loved the stunning visuals and really satisfying SFX!! I also appreciate a good devlog :D You mention 18h for the art, so I was wondering how did the process go? Did you iterate on the creature designs or was it more about fish shapes or colors? Super interesting work!
I really should have explained it better.
I start with the silhouettes, then just make basic variations of all then fins working down to smallest then up to largest, then if the mood strikes I add a couple of specials at the end.
This is so very good. It looks amazing. I love that everything is animated or lit or moving, there is so much detail. It's also a very fun and chill game. 5 star.
This is really beautiful. The visuals are stunning. The sadly crashed on me but the gameplay was very enjoyable. But 10/10! imma send this to my mom
Genuinely beautiful game. I wish there was a way to go down faster when looking for the later fish.
Slip streams are your friend! but I was thinking of tweaking them give more speed closer to the core.
Very cool game! I loved it! The only bad thing I have to say it is that everything its so tinny my eyes hurt. But the gameplay is funny and all teh eeffects and background is cool. I loved that the same fish species have like a lot of varieties. Amazing in overall!
This is incredible, the only thing letting it down is the audio. Everything else is so clever and effective..
Absolutely visually stunning game! The sound design is also incredibly well done and creates such an ethereal atmosphere. Really enjoyed my time playing this, well done!
Really beautiful game, super atmospheric. I really like it, nice work!
Behold my rarest catch:
Oh, she is a keeper! and congrats on second place! I don't think I am even on the leaderboard any more.
I dont even know what to say, this game has blown me away. Easily the most invested i've been in a submissin in this jam yet. It feels incredibly complete for a gamejam entry and has almost everything I could wish for.
The Gameplay loop is super enjoyable and addicting. There are just enough gameplay elements that make the dive challenging and fun with the jellyfish and currents. There is a surprising amount of depth in managing your position on the screen to not miss a valuable catch.
The Visuals and proceduralism are completely nuts for a week, cant even comprehend how you managed that.
Global Leaderboard tickles my brain.
The upgrades feel meaningful but not overwhelming.
Sound is super immersive (except for the talking in the Beginning imo XD).
Coop?? In a Week?? crazy
Anyway, hopy you continue working on this project after the jam, this has serious potential. I sank wayy too much time into this.
You are too kind! The proc gen system was surprisingly easy to setup, the art for the fish was 18hours on the dot, but I spent days trying to find the right balance of drop rates, probably rewrote the tables from scratch 10mins before launch. I was thinking of putting together a dev log on how all the pieces came together if you are interested?
Any how, thanks for playing and thank you even more for enjoying.
Much love,
Old Man Bear.
Wow thats an interesting insight, I thought the proc gen would take the majority of the time.
But I feel your pain updating drop rates till the last minute, we also had some major stuff done only minutes before the deadline xD
Yee please make a devlog, I would be very interested in your process, especially since I wanted to get into Godot for quite a while now ^^
Well well, I only now saw that you actually already posted the itch page. Gonna watch it now xD
Fun game ! The art is really cool. The gameplay is really enjoying. Great game.
wow, WOW! What a game, the visuals and audio are superb, but gameplay is not far behind it, on more simplistic side for sure, still extremly enjoyable and satisfying. Great execution all across the board I love this entry, so fcking good!
Great game! The artwork is really really good. You nailed the vibes. fish catching is fun and the fact that you have an upgrade system is great! My only complaint is that I felt like maybe the camera was moving down a bit too quickly as I felt I was almost always trying to go slower than the camera but that might just be me not adapting to the gameplay style of the game. Great job!
Great first impression - lovely atmospheric music and funny "blah blah" dialogue sound from the celestial octopus, I'm already delighted!
Beautiful and unique art style - there's a lot of polish and creativity on display here!
My constructive critique is that having the camera continuously drift downwards felt a little constricting at first (until I made peace with it), especially since it "feels" like my upward swim is strong enough to counteract the downward drift. It's a good gameplay element - forcing me to catch fish on time before they're off screen - but needs a stronger in-game justification. Maybe the player character has a visible diving weight attached and the upward velocity could be reduced - you could even allow the camera to go up a little bit before being counteracted by the downward force, if that makes sense...
I could definitely see myself playing this for longer, you can't go wrong with an upgrade progression loop like this set in a beautiful world.
Amazing job, team!
Wow this was a great experience :D insanely good visuals, atmosphere and sound. Gameplay was a lot of fun too! Impressive what you've created within a week, honestly. Nothing to criticize here :D well done!
Visuals
1 ... 1st nostalgia water world I have seen on this Game Jam ... interesting
2 ... maybe add zoom option (some people might complain they are blind)
3 ... maybe adjust camera character follow up: game character is visible little closer to the center side -> now sometimes character almost falls out of camera (top side)
4 ... looks good for 27inch display full HD
5 ... <forced camera moving down> all the time <after some time of playing> feels forced:
5.1 . do you want to achieve feeling of sinking (then that probably be perfect idea)?
6 ... this bg circle shader on BG around you gives extra dynamic -> very good
Design
1 ... movable GUI on screen or more centralized to gain eye focus
2 ... add mouse hover/ click actions on GUI (currently only is keyboard interaction)
3 ... show my amount of gold (currently I am not sure where my money is)
4 ... the touch of auto pushing you down from base in 3sec is good micro improvement (normal players would hardly see)
5 ... is there faster pull for this harpoon?
6 ... create not forced tutorial
6.1 . center bot side, text effect sth. like (little more tuned): "Right click to fish"
6.2 . adding target element
6.3 . auto turn off after game detect player is good
7 ... let me turn off all GUI (GUI animation scale down to the button) -> so I am able to see entire world,
7.1 . GUI might feels forced sometimes
8 ... try zoom-in/zoom-out channeling of harpoon -> to give feeling of control (currently bow has low impact or might be hardly visible - small)
Controls
1 ... takes some time to get feeling of controls (check Design 6.)
Sound
1 ... chilling sound with some noise -> good work
2 ... "welcome friend" I love this store voice acting
3 ... sounds does NOT feel repetitive -> very good
Great work! It looks fantastic and the sound/atmosphere is really good, had fun with this :)
It was amazing how good you guys got the game to look in only a week, and how you made a really addicting game loop. I really wanna know how you calculated the rarity of each fish, and I wish there was a feature to see which fish i was missing.
1 in 1,103,439 giant spotted crescent flapp got me to top 3!!! Love the artstyle and great polish. but the movement was a slow for my taste. Really great idea to have a global leaderboard!
Thanks so much! glad we finally broke the 1 Mil barrier. and noted about the movement, its a tricky solve with the limited challenge I have at the moment, but I will need to find a solve, movement must feel good.
Very good game!
I got to top 2 and maxed the shopwith a 1 in 3m
Loved the idea of going out to fish up rare fish!
Very well done on all the categories!
