This is a good vibe! Very relaxing.

Developer

thank you for playing!

Nice game. I like the core gameplay and game vibe.

Would like to understand how to pick challenges, or to plan a course. I see now from the comments below, that the terrain does affect the challenges. Making the player aware of this will enable them to plan better, as compared to simply following the compass, which is what I did. Some variety in the challenges and cards, etc. would also help.

Overall great game for the jam, with good potential for expansion. Well done!

Developer(+1)

thank you, those are good points, for sure! This was our first completed jam, so still lots to learn and be able to deliver more in less time :)

good job on designing this simple card game.

however, the event phase I feel like it is pure luck as I only need to fulfill the stats I need to pass the challenge.

If I dont have, I will have to use a token and there is no way to recover.

more card or tile effects will make this deck builder interesting. Looking forward to further this concept.

Very tranquil style. I liked the card animations and designs. Nice job!

Developer

Thank you!

I really like your idea. Everything fits well together and make for a chill moment.

I think it wasn't suggested by previous comment but having a way to throw away your "weak" card is often a good mechanic in deckbuilder. Not sure how to fit this into the theme though. I thought about removing a card when losing a bird but it would be the opposite of the game mood.

Nice work !

Unique take on the theme! Don't think I've seen any card games so far. The hanafuda inspired cards were beautiful.

Just an idea to connect the card game and the exploration element but it may have been nice to see your flock size reflected in the map view. It might make it feel a little more impactful as you finish encounters and see less and less birds each time.

Developer

100%!!! If we had more time, we definitely would have done that. Thanks for the note!

love the ideas of a flock of birds having to survive the winter. the game was deifnitely on the easier side and the cardplay would need to be differently balanced but the idea is strong and I can tell you put a lot of passion into the art direction and illustrations of the cards. I feel like it could also be used as a good tool to learn about bird migration if some more "birb lore" was added

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the planned more-challenging mechanics we had planned didn't make it in by the deadline, so it's fairly placid (unless you have really bad luck with RNG!)
Still really happy with it as-is since it's the product of a flock of strangers who arrived at a vision and worked together to realize it. Thanks for playing!

V-formation my beloved! well balanced fun game, liked the original ideia too never thought that i would control a FLOCK of birds and manage them into survival, well done!

Developer

YES you found the strat! This guy gets it!

Short but fun game, with cozy vibes! The bird and the map assets worked well together, but the card game was very different in style, which is not a problem, just a matter of consistency. The music was chill and worked well with the relaxing gameplay. The difficulty was a bit uneven, the very first challenge that I got was a Hunter, which was impossible to solve with my hand. All the others afterwards were really straightforward and posed no challenge. I was wondering if the terrain I land on affects the challenge, so is there a reason I should stop early before using my full movement? Also, minor improvement idea, but it would be really useful to indicate where I can get to. Of course it's not hard to measure and keep track, but it would really boost the user experience. I also liked the bird migration as an interpretation of the theme.

Developer(+1)

Terrain does impact the challenge! Grass tiles have easier challenges than mountains and forests. You probably landed on a mountain tile for your first encounter and got a rare result. We were planning to do more with this (for example, mountains and forests would have gauntlets of challenges, so you'd want to stay on grass while outrunning winter) but ran out of time!

The mouse controls show you the range of movement, but the keyboard controls do not. Great feedback, thank you!

Interestingly enough I landed on a grass tile first (because I assumed if affects the challenge), but I probably had a bad luck with that first one.

Nice one. It was clear and entertaining and I really liked the card phase.

Developer

Thank you! I'll check your game out later today!

I enjoyed the migrating birds flavour, and the combination of overland travel with a card game is nice.

Is there any cost to playing cards? It felt like I could just click every card in my hand without needing to think about it... I wonder if you could have two challenges at a time, so you have to choose which cards to spend on each one, for example.

Does the terrain affect the encounters you face? I felt like it did, but I may have imagined that.

I thought the use of hanafuda cards was really nice. Overall, the art and music you selected was all very pleasing, and worked together very nicely.

Developer (1 edit) (+2)

hey, thanks for playing! We didn't implement any cost system to play the cards. We were going to have multiple challenges, but had to scrape it in the interest of time.
And yes, terrain does affect the cards you face and the rewards you get afterwards

This is a very unique game and I thought the simple card game that matches the overall game mood was neat! Well done on the submission !

Developer

Thank you!

Really nice game, real chill vibes.

Does playing a card remove it from your deck?  I assumed it did so never played any of my 2/2 cards unless it was the only option.  Got the boar card as a final boss and made it to the end with a flock of 3.

Developer(+1)

Playing it doesn't remove from the deck :) Glad to know you kept the flock alive haha!

Submitted(+2)

Very pretty and unique game! I like the concept quite a bit but the balance felt a bit brutal---my very first encounter required 8 stamina T_T

Do the different terrains have different types of effects? I would love to see the concept expanded. The hanafuda cards and cute overworld bird are a really fun combination :)

Developer

A first encounter with the hunter is always brutal :D although it was very bad luck in your case, the hunter only appears in certain tiles with a reduced chance. Tiles have limited effects on gameplay for now, it only randomizes different set of cards (both the ones you face and the ones you get as a reward)

Thank you for playing!

Yeah, this game is heavy on luck! My 7-year-old son played and got through with all of his flock and blew me away. But also he instinctively knew that grassland is safer than forest or mountains without me telling him!

Thanks for playing!

Quite interesting! Really unique submission, I wasn't sure if I was doing the encounters in the intended way, I just sort of felt like I was adding up numbers together and there wasn't much incentive to ever pick a card to add to my deck other than the one with the biggest number on it. Really cool idea though!

Developer

Thank you! There's for sure some room to improve both the encounters and the instructions!
