Ranked from 162 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
It fits the theme because the game takes place in strange shifting dimensions where the world changes between 2D and 3D. This creates places that do not behave normally and would feel confusing and unusual to exist in. It is also strange from the character’s perspective, since the square is moving through and discovering these unfamiliar dimensions for the first time.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All assets were made by us, expect for the tesseract. Music was made in house, all assets and all code was written by us.

How many people worked on the game?
4

Cool game. I really liked the mechanics of switching between 2D and 3D, as well as the gravity shift. I would make the transitions between scenes smoother, and also improve the sound design a bit; the sound of the cube landing is very annoying. Overall, it's a solid puzzle game.

Really cool idea complimented by a stylish minimalist art style. I struggled with the first couple of puzzles as I figured out the rules, but got the hang of it soon enough.

I will say there were still times where the rules didn't quite work as expected: sometimes the 2D view was still impacted by the Z-axis of the 3D view (Cubey would miss a platform in 2D because he wasn't in line with it on the 3D plane). Or a platform I felt I should've been able to jump on in 3D wouldn't let me land on it.

A slower onboarding to all the rules and concepts would serve this game really well if you were to expand it. For example, a few small rooms just about the white boarders before, then a room or two where it's just 3D shifting, then rooms that start combining both. Understand it's not always feasible to have so many levels in the timespan of a game jam, though.

Nicely done, still! I had a good time with this :)

Thanks for the review! The 2D view WAS supposed to be impacted by the Z axis to fool players a little bit (for example, the platform above the spikes in level 8) but it  wasn't explicitly mentioned in game, which we didn't have time for. I do see the logic in making the introduction of mechanics slower, though. We might have expected a little too much from our players XD.

The game is wonderful, especially the visuals and controls. The title screen was very unique and interesting. The puzzles were also really well done, but I got stuck on the level with a closed area in the center. Very fun game!

Lemme start possi vibes, the colors are nice background wise and everything works :3 the 2d to 3d is interesting. But updates to little stuff (like QoL stuffs) would greatly improve the overall experience. Things like having a pause menu to turn down the really loud background music or a tutorial to teach you how things work or to slowly work up to certain mechanics. Cool game tho :3

this was really fun great job, I wasnt expecting for the world to shift and it was fun to figure out the puzzle!

This was super neat and I'm sure it was super challenging to make! I was hooked from the start. There were times that clicking on the rotating world piece wouldn't do anything so I wasn't sure what did work and what didn't, but eventually I got it to switch worlds and had fun! Super creative and innovative.

Developer

Thanks! There is a definite delay in switching between levels that we didn't know how to solve which is very annoying, but I hope you enjoyed regardless :3

Visuals

1 ... I ran app -> looked on 2nd screen -> looked back (main menu showed but game were paused) -> said there is no way this guy now do all eyes following my mouse -> it happened. You are 4th guy who made me surmised good job.

2 ... (menu): maybe add following for more dynamics:

2.1 . (menu): IDLE eyes if mouse not move

2.2 . (menu): edge side distortion

2.3 . (menu): static distortion shader

3 ... (game): add plop/blob extend animation of player when hitting ground

4 ... (game): add full screen PE which randomly appear/disappear synch with sound

5 ... (game): add player IDLE animation -> game becomes too static if player do no action

6 ... I think current 4D cube portal to next level doesn't fit with current athletics -> maybe check other alternatives such as portal

Design

1 ... unique shader (bu fells little off as px art)

2 ... after I opened all doors, felt out of platform 65x, checked altar, fire fireballs -> 10 mins has passed. Probably there is ending I did not find in that time.

3 ... very unique puzzle with unique platformer mechanics +1

Controls

1 ... at start jump fells little of but after some gameplay problem disappear

Sound

1 ... fits mystery of some "monster" watching you form the start -> sound pulled my eyes in

2 ... player hitting ground sound effect top notch

3 ... changing sound at mid/random times -> 1st game I seen on this GameJam which has done it

Thanks alot for the feedback, we actually ere planning to add animations for the player but ran out of time, and the 4D cube was supposed to be a beating heart but we couldnt find one that fit in

Very solid idea, i love how you have to balance 2D world with 3D!

Very playable and a good idea. Pretty easy to see what's going on, but some tricky puzzles. I did go the wrong way a few times!

Really had fun,  solid game mechanics and everything was readable.
Went in blind without reading your explanation and didn't encounter any issues.

Innovative! really enjoyed these mechanics, scratched a very specific itch in my brain you guys did really well with this. The art is simple but has alot of impact, the music fits super well and the overall package is well put together.

One personal mechanical gripe if you continue to take this forwards  - I might be an outlier or missing something, but the movement on W and S being camera based didnt enhance the experience for me, like it didnt make the game feel more challenging in a good way. I wonder how it would feel to play with linear movements.

Developer (1 edit)

hello! Thank you much for enjoying the game and for the kind words! The non-linear movement in 3d was originally not intended, but we decided to keep it as it prevents people from simply playing the entire game in 3d, as when they go to 2d, the non linear Z axis movement is disabled, allowing for more control! But thank you so much for the review!

A cool puzzle that combines 2D and 3D. I really enjoyed it, especially the 3D puzzles.

Thank you so much!!!

I have completed the game! 2D and 3D mechanics were really cool! Great work!

Developer

Really appreciate it!

Something I love: I love the main menu! Super weird! Also the color art / color pallet is super CLEAN. I also like the music, has a cool vibe!

Bugs I found:

1. Sometimes when I walk into a white wall, I just clip right through

2. Sometimes when I touch the end portal of a level, it doesn't register it (at least it feels that way)

Overall: The think outside the box and move the map to solve the puzzle is super fun! This is a very cool project you guys have! Keep up the great work!

Developer

Noted Thank you so much! I will make sure to play your game right now!!!

A very interesting way to combine the two dimensional spaces. The minimalist modeling I think actually made the scene of confusion less, than having it over clutter with embellishments, and rather have a colour change per floor. Simplicity for the win, while being confused at the same time.
