Great game. Simple, fun and very well put together. I love the dark effect in level 3. Great job

Developer

Thanks for the kudos.  Yeah that dark level effect was kind of a last-minute thing, but really glad it worked out. Thanks a lot for checking the game out!

Love the art and the story/title...I have many left socks that I wish I knew where they are...didn't find them in this game as I only made it to the second level. lol.

Developer

Oh man, I think I saw your socks on the third level. You should keep trying lolol.

Thanks a lot for playing and really glad you like the visuals :)

Congratulations on the game!

I thought it was a simple game, but I only managed to get a maximum of 5500 points :) I couldn't get past the second level, but I'll keep trying. It's frustrating and makes you want to try again and again.

I played on a widescreen monitor. I didn't encounter any bugs. The music is very nice and I think it suits the game's fast pace. The rapidly flowing ground becomes hypnotic after a while. I usually lost the game because of this :)

Developer

Awesome, nice to know no bugs were found. A developer's greatest fear lol. Appreciate you retrying to stage again and again to beat your last score. I wish I had more time; I would have made a level select so that you could at least practice a specific stage,  but alas, game jam time constraints.

Thanks for playing and for the compliment :)

Very charming and a lot of fun to play! The backgrounds are so creative and the functional leaderboard was icing on the cake! Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the kind words! Really appreciate it.

The game premise is a lot of fun! It's nice and challenging, and I enjoyed trying to hit new high scores :)

Developer

Thanks a lot and for playing! Hope you were happy with your score :)

Submitted(+1)

Very silly and strange-looking places, it makes for a funny endless runner. Nice job!

Developer (1 edit)

Appreciate it! Nice to know some people see what's going on in the background; we were afraid it would be missed since a lot of the focus is on the run path lol.

Submitted(+1)

Funny little runner. However it's a bit difficult to see the character with the background.

Developer

Yeah agreed, wish I had gone another direction with the background.  Thanks for the feedback and for checking it out!

fun and tense platformer! kudos to you and your wife

Developer

Thanks. We appreciate the compliment and are happy you liked it :)

That was super cool! You nailed the smoothness of the jumping controls, they felt so smooth and responsive, I loved it!

Loved it so much that I decided to try and claim the #1 spot on the Leaderboard and managed! ((altough I might revisit if someone decides to take that one from me haha))

Great game! (the ancient greece level is so terrifying when it comes to the tension)

Developer(+1)

Omg that's awesome! Congrats!

I think you've been the only one to make it to the last variation of the temple stage thus far. If you don't mind sharing, what did you think of it? I'm genuinely interested. I spent an extra amount of time making that one feel like "boss" stage lol. Ran it a bunch and kept tweaking it.

Also, thanks for the kind words. I dedicated quite a chunk of time to the jump tuning/feel.

Submitted(+1)

The last temple stage really did feel like the boss stage, though the farthest I've seen it was to a point where there is a bunch of those small one-block jumps, that's the part that defeated me.

But overall I really enjoyed the speed and precision needed for the later stages

Developer

Haha gotcha. You were halfway through the level, almost made it! Yeah I was being diabolical when I made that part lol. A level select would be nice to be able to practice that part. It's one of those things that muscle-twitch memory is needed for, which is hard to attain when having to start from the beginning.

Thanks a lot for letting me know. Super happy you enjoyed the agility of the jump! :)

Pretty fun! I loved the idea of a classic runner, it had been quite a while since I played one of this type XD I really enjoyed it, great game!

Developer(+1)

Awesome, glad you had a good time and thanks for the compliment. And agreed, it's been a while since I played a runner too lol

Submitted(+1)

Controls feel so nice, fun music to draw me in, well done on a good endless runner

Developer

Glad you like the controls. I put some time on tuning them so am happy you enjoyed that about it. Thanks for playing!

That's a pretty fleshed out, enjoyable game with nice vibes, i liked it. :)

Developer

Thanks a lot =D

After a few deaths, it felt great to finally get into a groove and see all the creative environments - glad I didn't give up early, otherwise I would've missed Ancient Greece - Sock Edition. It's not groundbreaking gameplay, but by sticking to a classic formula that works, you freed yourself up to deliver a complete game with fun level design. I would've loved even more levels, but obviously that's quite greedy when there's a limited time to make it all.

Haha I felt I was very undeserving of a leaderboard placement during my first failed runs, so maybe that should've been a Top 50 cut-off - but thank you for the multiple honours anyway!

Fun game with lots of personality shining through! Well done :)

Developer

Thanks for the awesome comment. Yeah i need to implement it where it replaces your entry with your highest entry. Didn't quite have time to add that logic, but its nice to hear that there is definitely a reason to take the time to do so. Appreciate the feedback and compliments. Super glad you enjoyed it.

love the visuals!

Appreciate you taking the time to check it out, and thanks for the kind words

Nice game! Well done!

Developer

Thanks!

Good game! I really like the slightly weird visuals, and the character design is very well done.

I would maybe increase the contrast between the platforms and the background in the second world, as it’s sometimes not very clear. Hitting a wall can also feel a bit frustrating since the character stops very abruptly.

And well done on the online leaderboard!

Developer

Thanks for the compliment and feedback! Yeah, I should have made a bolder outline on game objects, and maybe darkened the backgrounds a little. Glad you were able to enjoy it still :)

You all made a fun game. The music fits the game perfectly. The leaderboard makes players want to compete with each other. Everything is done very well.
Congratulations on the great work

Developer

Thanks :D

This was honestly super fun. The leaderboard made it addictive — I kept retrying just to beat my own score. The world is weird in a really good way. The backgrounds and character design give it personality, and the music ties everything together nicely.

Sometimes the jump felt a little tricky to predict(and i think something is odd in movement)

Great work, especially for a jam

Developer

Thanks for checking it out, and for sticking through a few runs :)

What I liked:

- The leaderboard omg, I felt so compelled to get a decent score. I got spot #18 which isn't as high as I would like to be but I'll take it. Implementing this must've been a FEAT and it really added so much to a game that has a simple concept. I wanted to WIN.

- The art and feel and atmosphere was really cohesive and fun. The story and the art played well together and I just liked the world you created a lot. Loved the backgrounds and different aesthetics you explored here.

- It was very clear what the objective is and how to win. No tutorial needed whatsoever

What I thought could be improved:

- The first time I saw the washing machine portal at the end of the level, I wasn't sure if it was gonna help or hurt. This is a small thing but maybe just like, a little sign that says "Enter" or something

- I feel like in some ways it's good how quickly you fall after jumping in this game, but at the same time, for a game where the core mechanic is jumping, I felt like the jump was a little unfair or not properly tuned. I feel like I died a lot because the jump didn't act how I expected. Maybe this is a matter of personal preference but it just died off so quickly. Even holding the jump button, it still was tough.

- There was a lot of visual noise and a lack of visual hierarchy. While usually the socks stood out, the coins didn't always and the obstacles sometimes were a little hard to read as I was quickly scanning the screen for the next thing. Visually, my eyes weren't naturally drawn to what was important and with all the noise, I feel like I died sometimes because something was blending in too much to the background.

Overall, despite my suggested improvements, I really enjoyed this game. Mad respect to Sushi, whoever they are haha

Developer

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! All of this is noted as learning points.

You're absolutely right about the portal. I disable input right before it so players can't jump over it, but there definitely should've been a clearer"finish line" indicator. I wanted to add something like that but just ran out of time.

The visual noise point is fair too. It's definitely something we'll be more intentional about in the future. I agree, it muddies the path ahead and makes it hard to track with the eyes.

The jumping, oh man...lol I can spend weeks fine tuning the jump feel alone. I only gave like at most a day dedicated to it, and even that was too much for a jam. At some point I just had to step away and say "it's good enough" XD. Still, thanks a lot for letting me know. Feedback like this helps me understand what feels good and doesn't.

Seriously, though, I'm glad you enjoyed it and took the time to write all that. And #18 is nothing to scoff at :)

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Honestly, the portal thing is a pretty small one time thing but thought it was worth mentioning.

The visual noise thing is tough but I feel like having a dark or light outline on the foregrounded objects or adding a layer on top of the background that made it darker would've done a ton with very little effort. Just some ideas.

And in case you haven't seen it, Game Maker's Toolkit has a really helpful interactive video essay about platformers and making them feel good that I found very helpful. I run through this almost every time I make a game lol
