Welcome! This a pixel art challenge for the discord community Juniper Dev's Garden! Whether you've been making pixel art for years or just started yesterday, we'd love for you to share your creativity with us.
- Erin <3
Based on overall enjoyment (excluding animation), but especially skill and execution.
Think outside the box! Chances are if you think it fits the theme, someone else will agree. You can include how you interpreted the theme in your art's description.
Not how many colors, but your use of color theory and lighting.
You aren't required to animate, but we want to recognize your effort if you do!
A few judge-selected pieces we want to highlight.
*All results will be announced in discord after the voting window has closed*
The art must be made entirely during the submission window, not started before.
No AI generated content or drawing over AI content.
No work that is NSFW, discriminatory, or otherwise harmful/offensive. (Pretty much same rules as the discord server)
Any questions relating to the event can be asked in the itch.io community tab or directed to Erin (@zebrawithwings) on discord.
You must be a member of the Juniper Dev discord community, outside submissions will be removed. Submissions will require you to privately disclose your username for this purpose.
PIXEL RESOLUTION LIMITS: to keep it "pixel art", we have to draw the line somewhere. The limit will be 128x128 pixels, but smaller is also fine.
Is this a game jam?
NOPE - it's like a jam but just for pixel art! It's a challenge where participants are tasked with creating a piece of art based on a theme that is revealed at the beginning of the event. The participants will be given a short time frame to create the artwork, in this case you have 48 hours to create your work!
Are there prizes?
Winners will receive Steam gift card prizes and a special role in the Discord (and bragging rights).
Do I have to spend all 48 hours making my art?
Nope, we don't expect you to dedicate your whole weekend to it. 48 hours is just so more people can find the time to participate. If it only takes 30 minutes to finish your one thing, that's just fine.
Can I submit multiple assets?
Sure! As long as you made all of it during the event window, the sky's the limit.
Is voting done be the participants or judges?
Most criteria are community voted, unless noted as judge chosen.
Can I update my art after I submit?
You can update any time before the submission window closes, or after the voting period has ended. You cannot upload files during the voting period.
Can I work on a team?
The intention is one artist per submission, but you are free to get feedback from friends and make changes before the deadline!
What file format should I use?
PNG, JPG, GIF - anything that itch.io allows for screenshots will do.
Classification - Other
Kind of project - downloadable
Upload screenshots for everything, in addition to one for the cover image. It makes it easier to see!
