Stuff you didn't do during the jam
Borrowed a shader from godot's official site & made tremendous use of the Dialogic plugin. It's credited in game & I'll put that in the description too

This is absolutely BRILLIANT! firstly, this is so beautiful aesthetically, secondly I think the dissociation UI thing is so clever. The writing is fantastic and really conveys this kind of dissociation to a layperson in a very effective way and in a short period of time. Plus I like that the partner uses fae/faer pronouns and that the kind of sex depicted is queer and kinky and also not PIV; it's nice seeing sex in a game that more reflects stuff outside of the norm. Really love this so much!

EDIT: yo I didn't realise it was possible to drag the other one in instead! really interesting to see the differences. also, wanted 2 say the art is soooo cute

As someone who's only capable of interacting with sex dissociatively. The initial concept for this grabbed me, but It took me a while to understand what was actually going on. I dragged the character in accidently while messing with the UI and didn't realize that was the core mechanic until my 3rd runthrough. I felt lost figuring out who's who, but I think that's because this is the first media I've experience that actually used neopronouns (I know someone who uses 'fae' as their name). Once I realized that it all made sense.

I certainly came in with misguided expectations given my complicated sexuality. But what I saw was incredibly unique, and the emotions hit hard here. Plus the fact that it's being viewed from an external lens makes it hit so much harder. I love seeing media that's the author doing some self exploration. Reminds me of my first long form smut story I wrote, and seeing just how much of myself I had unknowingly displayed there. Thinking about the design here is certainly making my brain flow with ideas, I'm inspired.

Oh my god this is so good! I LOVE the mechanic of dragging one of the little windows into the main window to choose who switches in, it's so simple and yet fits so perfectly for the story. And the story this game tells somehow feels so devastating and comforting at the same time, and even though we only spend a small amount of time with these characters, they still feel so real and honest and believable.

I also personally found the length basically perfect for telling the story of this one moment in these characters' lives, especially about the specific feelings around dissociating during sex. At the same time, if you made more of this game, I would absolutely play more! Without a doubt, one of my favorite games of the jam.

First pass, I was completely distracted with the UI. But on second pass I could engage with the story and oof, ouch. I don't think I have any notes aside from it being well written and I could feel the pain of Al. I like the presentation for the personalities.

The outside world being present through a webcam window definitely captures that feeling of disassociation accurately.

HostSubmitted(+1)

as someone who has definitely had sex i did my very best to not be present for,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,  oof

the interface and your little guys are very charming though, very cool idea

The reactive character windows are really neat and I like the color-coordinated art! Drag interactions to make choices are cool, but the windows can end up in awkward places or even stuck to the cursor, I feel like they should be adjustable during the dialogue sections too. The story jumps straight into things, so I didn't really get what was happening until I went through it again, but I think that's fine for the sorts of themes you're exploring. I really like the way it's all set up, the presentation style is very unique and offers all sorts of possibilities if you want to expand this game!

Developer(+1)

I actually 100% agree with you that windows should be moveable during text, unfortunately my inexperience with Dialogic is to blame there. In a prospective re-visit I'm actually considering building my own dialogue system if it's within my reach so I could do things like that. Thank you for the kind words!

Tremendously evocative vignette, well done. It's tough because I instinctively want there to be a "correct" ending where things go better, but sometimes they don't, and you did a great job leaving the player to sit with it.

Developer (1 edit)

aaa finally trying to get around to replying to everyone-- part if that friction is because this is an inciting incident! I've actually been going over my scripts & notes to try and see about finishing my initial 3 vignettes post-jam and maybe doing some more. Honestly the best way to think about this one is almost like.. half of a prospective chapter 1, so it's missing a post-event scene that I had to cut for time reasons. I've gotten a lot of very nice messages though that make me believe in it more than I did by end of February tho,  so I'm kind of motivated to continue with it. I'm glad it hits that space of 'having to sit with it',-- tbh if that'd 'part 2 of scene 1' had made it in, it would have been operating in the same spot, so I'm glad it transmitted ( ; v ;  );;

Definitely gets the feeling of randomly fronting in the middle of doing something down well. Fun art style and graphics and the sexual arts and story telling were pretty good.

Developer(+1)

thank you!! I'm kind of just humbled by the response players have had (  ; w ; )ノ"

It's short but VERY sweet.  The aesthetics are on point, the interface is ingenious.  I'll be suggesting this to my sys friends for sure.

Developer

VERY high praise... thank you so much, & I hope it's okay/that they like it..  I'm so humbled....

Easily one of my favourites from this SJ. Its a great example of how interactive mediums have some really great potential for representing unique experiences in ways others mediums can't. I thought the play on system as referring to both a computer system and a DID system was really clever, and I love how this informed both the aesthetic approach and the writing approach, with the diff headmates presented as simultaneously running programs on the same hardware. My friend who has DID found this relateable, and I really appluad this creator for representing something that's often overlooked. Ppl with DID get a very bad rep in most media, and are simultaneously hypersexualised as evil monsters and desexualised as subjects of desire. I thought this was really excellent and important, and I hope the creator develops this more into a longer project!

Developer

thank u.. for noticing the pun... I'm so relieved it was relatable too-- I'm mostly on the fringes of the plural community because I'm still trying to figure myself out & I'm too afraid to interact but I'm glad this little window, haha, kind of offers a venue to be seen, for lack of better words.

This was one of the games me and my partner’s gunned to play once submissions opened, and we were both DEVASTATED that there wasn’t more to play with beyond what’s present for the jam! The use of the old school Windows desktop/computer windows to represent DID alter presence/switching is brilliant, as well as lending the game a gorgeous atmosphere; aesthetically it’s one of my favorites in the jam. The character designs are also so cute - Mebsuta?? Hello??? SO gorgeous. And Wasat ending up just vibing and doing their own thing was so cute.

The story as well also hits hard; Alhena’s dissociation and distress about fronting in the current circumstances is played off against the eroticism of what the system is doing to Virgo wonderfully, and I think captures a really interesting slice of the DID experience. I hope you revisit this concept and/or expand on this in the future. I’d love to see it!

Developer(+1)

I would!! love to do more!! I mentioned in another comment that I've been going over my notes & scripts as well as starting to take a stab at filling out more sprite sheets as soon as time allows since there is kind of something I'm trying to accomplish here even if it's just self-discovery. I'm so touched that it's been so well received (and you're so nice!! about the art!! waaah

I’m so glad to hear you wanna do more - I’ll def be following to see!!! Momentum post jam can always be a pain, but I know I’d really love to see a larger scale version of this come to (and self discovery is a great motivator).

And I’m nice about the art bc its well deserved - it takes a great artist to serve the aesthetic and intention of their application well, and you’ve absolutely succeeded in that.

This is such a good game!! Love the style of it, and the little drag-and-drop for the alters was such a fun little interaction. Not plural myself but still found the visualization of the dissociation and internal discussion happening through it rather relatable. Would be super interested in seeing this elaborated if y'all are planning to continue adding to it, but I really like it as-is!~

Developer

I would like to! I've been going back to my script notes and trying to think about what a finished version might actually look like since this is almost kind of..  just under a proof of concept? That feels a little mean but I said in another reply that this is kind of only half of the first scene so it feels kind of justified jdhsjkf, I'm just so relieved the vision of it came across well enough, wah

Submitted(+1)

HOLEY MOLEY This HITS. As a plural person, I love seeing this way of presenting what dissociating during sex can feel like. And the subtle interaction by clicking and dragging one alter's window into the main viewer-- an absolute delight. Thank you so much for making this!

Developer(+1)

IM... SO GLAD... I'm just really relieved it wasn't a miss...  thank u too so much for sharing....

The artstyle is really pretty. Nice callback to the old Windows XP style of desktop. I don't understand much about the story, but the adult scene itself was pretty enjoyable.

Developer(+1)

Thank youuu ("   ; A ; )ノ”
The art was one of the last things to come together, like literally racing against the clock on submission day so I'm glad it still held up as well as it seems to

Submitted(+2)

The DID?? The art?? Even that one moment of gameplay where you  desperately call another one of you to help. This was so juicy and interesting! It works super well as a mood or vignette, it has that impactful quality of lingering in the back of your brain.
I'd recommend adding screenshots of the horny to your page and submission, you deserve way more plays.

Developer(+1)

THIS IS... A VERY NICE COMMENT.... and yeah I'll add screenshots, thank you-- I was worried when posting bc I knew about itch.io's de-indexing and I didn't wanna chance missing the deadline at first but yeah now that we're in judging, I'll find time to do that ( ; w ;  )"

Submitted(+1)

What a strange and interesting concept.
I am expentant for seeing what comes next.

PD: Is there a way to trigger a joined scene?
I got half green-orange and half green-pink, is there pink-orange?

Developer(+1)

Not currently since you're kind of in one already, the one who's pre-joined is Alhena (green)! I have more scenes planned where someone else would be pre-joined and one of my debug tools had a blank/default window that would stack from 'empty' so to speak, but in this current version: not yet

Submitted(+2)

Art style is fantastic, the singular game mechanic presented is a fantastic way to execute branching decision paths in a narrative game, the writing is fun and characterized and... and then it's over in a single execution of the game mechanic.

I mean hey! If a concept leaves me immediately thinking "where's the rest of it?" youve landed on at least a good base concept! I hope you do more with this some time!

Developer(+1)

I'd like to! I'm hoping to also! Back at the start of Feb when I was young and ambitious, I'd actually plotted out 3 scenes to try and submit for this month-- so I do have material planned! I might have my work cut out for me though since I'm getting horrible, delusional thoughts of trying to split from using Dialogic in a prospective future build in order to have more control over text & interaction so it might.. be a while...

Submitted(+1)

Quite an unhappy ending to a very short story. I was quite surprised at how quick it was and how little could be done, but the art style is great, and really full of character.

Developer

THANK YOU.... Everyone's so nice about the art even if the story was a hurdle, I'm so humbled. Part of the shortness stemmed from lack of time/experience but I'm hoping to make it better!
