Description
To The Final Battle is my interpretation of a theme from Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (RSE). It was originally meant to be a route theme but became more of a Victory Road or general endgame feeling. I mixed this project in Garageband. Most of the sounds for this composition came from my Roland Juno DS-61, but I ended up supplementing with some stock Garageband plugins that felt closer to the GBA music sounds. The bass is a single triangle wave track that I bounced from Famitracker because that was the closest and most consistent bass sound I could get to some of the music in RSE. There are only a few instruments here but I wanted to make sure the brass was front and center, because RSE is all about trumpets and french horns! Hope you all enjoy and thank you for listening!

I love the trumpet opening, very triumphant with that snare drum tip tapping under. It all feels very regal. I like the march vibes, but I do think I might have added a bit more dramatic drums and maybe a bit more variety of voices or structure in general. Its a great and fun piece though that gets me in the mood for a Pokemon battle for sure!

I agree there could be some more color/variety in voicing. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the feedback!

Oh yes, I can definitely imagine this playing in the background while I'm getting ready to take down a series of elite trainers. Very powerful and bold sound, and I like the french horns and trumpet taking turns with the melody. The only real change I would consider making is to bring out the lows a bit more in the mix.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed! And thank you for the feedback. I went back and forth on the bass mixing but I will bring it out more next time.

Very bold and emotional. It definitely communicates your theme well! I think adding another instrument by either introducing a call and response, or by swapping from the trumpets or horn in a certain section would add some colour and variation to the piece, but that's probably just personal taste as it sounds great as it is.

I'm with you on that, I would have liked to have another instrument like strings or woodwinds to contrast the brass. It was a challenge to find a way to fit them in but I'd definitely like to try to rework when I have more time. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm a big fan of this, fits right at home for a GBA-inspired track. The Roland sounds are a nice touch, I'm pretty sure that's even the same trumpet that rse and frlg sampled, just higher quality obviously (not 100% sure off the top of my head, but that's absolutely the Mother 3 trumpet). The syncopated melody at the beginning evokes Ever Grande City to me, which is a nice touch because of it's proximity to victory road. I also really enjoy the hopeful nature of this piece, kind of a juxtaposition to the rse victory road. I think my only critique is the instruments playing the melody could be brought out more in the mix. It's not as offensive when the trumpet's playing because it's higher range makes it easier to distinguish, but when the horn has the lead it gets a little lost in the background. Awesome stuff, keep up the great work!

Listening back I think you're right, the horn could be turned up a bit in the chorus sections. I was trying to fine-tune the levels in mono but I think the horn just may also need some EQ adjustments. Also yeah I ended up finding out later that Roland samples were used for the GBA games so that was a happy accident/coincidence! Thanks and appreciate the feedback on this!
