This is very fitting for the times we are in currently, as it is hard to find reliable sources of truth. Maybe you could collaborate with Ground News https://ground.news/ or Johnny Harris's platform https://newpress.com/. The latter is newer and probably open to developing their site.

I think the goals of this project are really noble and well described.

Given that you have a live website already, I would love to hear more about your thinking on execution as part of this pitch. To what extent is your current website succeeding at your goals? Have you succeeded in attracting *and retaining* users? (my intuition is that user retention would be a potential big barrier to success - what makes someone come back? so I'd like to see evidence that this is something you're either working on or have evidence it's not a problem)

Basically, I think the project is cool and I'd like to see as part of your pitch a concrete assessment of where the bottlenecks are because that should shape your next steps, and give the partners you are looking for confidence that they are joining a project with longevity.

thank you for taking the time to read!

Retention is ofc one of the main issues. Already built there is the chance to suscribe to email alerts. For now it's once a week something like you have X news to vote, this are the current clusters or "bubbles" in the platform. But I've also thought of something more tailored to the user's preferences so far.

I've put some effort also in the sharabilty of links, that *might* be a reason on why platform might be fun to use i.e: "The majority thinks this is good news, how about you?" or "I'm in the Apocalypse bubble at the moment, where are u?"

some of that can be tested here clicking in share: https://memoria.uy/mapa/

cool idea, i really like the website.

minus one start because I wish it was possible to see some kind of graphs or visualizations without logging in (perhaps some kind of "global" data or maybe your "most shocking findings" or something clickbaity to entice me to go "oh wait i wanna see myself!" i found myself slightly frustrated at how the posts just disappeared when i clicked on them, no "tactile response")

the written description reminded me a lot about the polls platform defender talks about, but the website implements it in a cool way. I could see myself on a phone "swiping" on the news.

I think there's a lot of room for collaborations with this kind of tooling and the Virts platform I'm building. In a lot of ways, every 'item' on a social media feed is the news and (like in the case of X, often) the news often surfaces through 'rumors' or primary sources in these places prior to being reported by the major institutions. I believe that the future of information, news, and knowledge is in the web, rather than belonging to any specific institution, and it could do a lot of good to have the backend of studying how the noosphere forms ("researchers in polarization and media framing" etc) on the larger scale of social media.

On the Virts platform, each "Plur" is a collective (or 'society').
""The idea is to create a reusable civic infrastructure that can be adapted locally — with culturally appropriate naming — while sharing a common open core.

Each society could have its own “Memoria.”""

That's powerful, and looking at how different plurs interact with the same information on the global feed could give you lots of data wrt this:
""

With sufficient data, Memoria could:

* Study how coverage of the same event differs across outlets

* Measure how framing affects reader sentiment

* Detect when different audience clusters respond differently to identical events

This opens the possibility of analyzing not just polarization among readers, but also **media framing effects across the ecosystem.**

It transforms Memoria from a voting tool into a research platform on public discourse dynamics.""

Anyways, love your site and pitch. Excited to see where we could tread ground toge

Thank you for your comments! I'll think about everything, and yes, it would be super nice to collaborate.

you are right about the fun part being "hidden" at first until you vote, you don't have to make a user tho, I kinda focused on privacy a lot. If you vote for more than 3 things, it should already locate you in a group and show you the map. But I'm not a UX expert, so this flow could definitely use some improvements.

At any point, you can see the current clusters and how they compose themselves.

There is also this: https://memoria.uy/clusters/report/, which is the nerdy part, and currently not so interesting because of the lack of traffic in the latest weeks

Neat project! I'm pretty skeptical that it would ever be adopted by traditional news outlets, given my impression of what the true function of those outlets actually is, but I like the idea and I think it would be super interesting to read through your results once you have some scale.

Developer(+1)

You are right to be skeptical. I thought maybe some niche outlet set out to do some experiments, or something like them: https://ground.news/

Very interesting project! Why NOT extending it to a form of social media depending on how it goes?

Jam Host(+1)

If this becomes super successful in 6 months, what does that look like? I am interpreting "good", "bad", and "neutral" here to be not about the presentation, but the writing, but the content of the news. Like:

- "Trump declares war" -> most people in my bubble would say "bad"
- "They opened a new homeless shelter on this street" -> this might split "bad" vs "good", depending on whether you live on that street perhaps

Is your goal to be able to see kind of "who believes what" ? if so, I feel like your project can kind of act as a launch/prototype/pilot for Katt's "social media for egregores" /jam/-pitch-jam-/topic/6066872/virts-social-media-for-egregores

Like I think you can make a small prototype for this (where you login with twitter/bluesky, etc) and vote on a sample feed (let's say we pick 10 specific news items), and we see the bubbles form from that (and I can tweet it/share it with friends etc, to get a "wide sample"). From that we could get quite a good end-to-end test that would prove (1) this is valuable (2) there's demand for it (3) here's what it looks like when it works

Developer

First of all, thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.

Yes, good, bad, neutral is how the piece of news makes me feel, no te presentation of the event. Tho there is something interesting to do if I can identify two different presentations for the same piece of news: then I can study how different framing changes how people feel about the event reported.

Success would be being a widget that online media outlets embed in their articles, similarly to how they enable comments.

Success would be people experimenting with the different timelines, "affinity news", "bridge news", and "opposite view news". I think this would play nicely with Bluesky feeds, for example.

thanks again! I will check out "social media for egregores"... looks fun
