This is a very creative game with an excellent visual style. I love the neon style shiny sprites and the contrast. The sonar sound wave effect looks great and it's executed very well.
I have couple of questions. When you fly into a certain direction for some time you encouter dense rock formations, are those the boundaries of the level? Bcs there are spaces between them which you can squeeze through but it's very hard to do and i often died while trying to do that.
I don't understand how you eat the bugs. I didn't notice any change when i flew or swoop towards them and what's supposed to happen when we eat the bugs, restore health?
Is the purpose of the game survive as long as you can infinitely or does it have an ending?
My verdict is i love the visual design and very creative theme of the game. In terms of gameplay loop, i couldn't find a sense of purpose and engaging gameplay but it was interesting to play a bat simulator for a change. How bats find their way in the dark is very well simulated in the game. I think this is one of the most visually appealing games of the jam i have seen so far and i'm really glad that you submitted this beautiful game
Chiming in to answer as best as I can (I was part of team for this game):
- Yes, the really dense tree line forms level boundaries. Sometimes regions of trees will also separate parts of the map you can access, but the gap between them is a lot more noticeable, so there's no need to go try squeezing into the tiny spaces (unless it's to chase a bug for example)
- When you successfully hunt a bug, you hear a slightly different sound, your hunger bar (visible on the screen at all times as several squares) goes up, and the bug disappears from the map (which may not always be clear if there are multiple bugs of the same type flying about). It's quite difficult until you get a knack for it, so it's quite likely you haven't caught a bug yet. The trick is to really SPAM ping until you've got a kind of time lapse image of the bug's movement, and then strike to intercept (attached a screenshot showing the kind of echolocation imaging you should aim for). In the start it's a bit slow as you need to wait for swoop to come off cooldown if you miss, so you really need to pick your strikes carefully. As you fill hunger past a certain point, you unlock additional swoops. However, different bugs move differently, and some are much easier to catch than others. (For example, there's a grasshopper-like bug that moves in hops and remains completely stationary between them.)
- There is no end goal in the game other than to survive as long as possible (at least at this time)

Really fun and great presentation! I especially liked how the ping followed a long with a melody that made clicking a lot of fun.
One of my favorite entries from the 7DRL, extremely unique, fun and polished. Well done!
Played this so much I managed to get two additional swoops.
I really love this wee game- found it super inspiring to see it in development, and when the jam was over I made sure to find it and give it a play. Incidentally, a friend came round just as I was loading in, and we both ended up hooked on it for 8 rounds (before we agreed to play risky for the extra swoop or we’d happily be there for hours)! Lovely game feel, I enjoyed figuring out the mechanics and gameplay, and just a really beautiful insight into the sensory world of a bat. I did get some pretty bad audio stuttering on the web client, but the downloadable executable ran great. Love it!
