Platformers is my cup of tea anymore (sadly), but still think it's a great game!

I absolutely love the old school vibes, and it's runs smooth and feels good. Nice storyline, but a bit too easy imo.

A thing that annoyed my is that you talk to npc's with up-arrow. When i wanted to jump but i was close to an npc, the dialog started and i had to go through it to continue. For me, i think down-arrow or a specific "use/talk" button would be prefered.

Great music and sfx.

Good job and keep working on it

Its a pretty fun game that does feel like your exploring unique areas with a really nice visual style and music.

I do think however the game could use some sound effects. its interesting that only the dash has a sound effect and no other action does like jump or collecting a recon point. Also the purple mushroom area is a little slow, maybe add less hidden paths (but still keep them cause there still interesting, you could even give the hidden tiles evaporating a sound effect to create like a chain reaction of sound effects).

Also the game doesnt really seem to care if you collect one or multiple recon points, you can leave the area all the same. Maybe just add some reward system for collecting more? (though it makes sense if its a game jam and you ran out of time to add something).

Finally, maybe make it so you can talk to some npcs more than once. Cause there was this one guy in the mushroom village that said something about his son that i skipped by accident and then couldnt go back to talking to him.

Overall game does have potential, i think the style is quite compact and colorful, just make sure to polish.

Hi! Here are some thoughts and feedback I had while playtesting:

Overall - feels pretty nice. It is a cute, cozy platformer that evokes pleasant emotions. At the moment, it feels relatively easy.

Music enhances the atmosphere and aligns with the artistic direction. Although, for my taste, the low bass in the hub base sounds a bit too distorted, and the music does not loop well in that location.

Character controls feel smooth and behave as predicted. In the base HUB, I caught myself several times thinking that it would be nice to be able to climb downstairs. Also, since jump is the same button as interact, I had several instances where I would jump over the character instead of interacting, or interact instead of jumping.

It is pleasant to explore the main base and to chat with the characters. I am curious what the main storyline would be. Felt a bit that there was a lack of a mid-term narrative hook. But perhaps it comes later.

What I disliked were the disappearing crates in the base/rocks in the second level. I believe the act of breaking them can be a satisfying moment, but currently, it feels rather tedious to bump into things and to wait until they disappear. What to me makes it worse is them reappearing again. At the base hub level, it creates narrative dissonance about why crates return to existence. In the mushroom cave level, it creates a very tedious traversal, especially when backtracking, as the challenge of finding the path iwas already solved, and the game feels as if it is wasting my time for no apparent reason now when I am just trying to exit the passage back. Additionally, in the base HUB, I had instances where I wanted to stand on a crate, but instead, it would vanish.

One more thing - trampolines in the first level are almost invisible.

Level Design.

Level Design is decent, although I felt as if the levels lacked a bit of mechanical variety and progression within the levels. What I mean is that as soon as I landed in the new location, I already saw all the visuals and mechanics the new location presents, so exploring it becomes less engaging. Additionally, I would appreciate it if I had a counter so I can track if I picked enough orbs. I had cases when I would leave the location without knowing if I had collected everything I wanted.

Random thoughts:

Add an indication where I've already been on a level. Levels can feel sprawling, and it gets hard to remember where I've been.

Very nice to see progression in the main hub.

Bottom Line: I had a fun time. Moving and exploring were good. The game felt a bit too easy, and I am not sure if I would stay engaged if the game had more levels for much longer. Unless something new is thrown at me, both mechanically and story-wise. But for the 2 levels present, the game is engaging enough, and I left feeling that I wanted to play more.

What I like:

- The minimalist pixel art style was nice.

- The platforming felt good.

Problems with the game:

-Some visual communication problems.

It was difficult to tell what I could interact with and what I could not interact with. I often had to memorize how the  things I could interact with looked like. For example, the spring that bounces you up looks like 3 small lines spaced apart, but very similar to grass. I think it would be helpful to have some kind of distinction in the art that told the player what is in the background, what is in the mid ground for decoration, and what is in the foreground and you can interact with. Usually low contrast low brightness colors are used in the background, and high contrast high brightness  colors are used in the foreground.

With the dash, it is kind of difficult to tell how far it goes. I think some kind of line or particle effects would be useful to visually show how far dash goes.

I'm not very good at platformers haha

But I did like your art style and color palette. The sound design was quite charming. Your text was short, sweet, to the point and nice to read. My points of improvement for you is that the spring pads are easy to miss, and (this might just be me) but the first button wasn't working when I tried it the first few times. I had to refresh and try again before it worked. Otherwise, nice job! Keep going <3

What a neat 2D platformer! Loved the soundtrack and fx, the art style as well. Good controls.

Lore as well, nice story. The action being the up arrow key is a good way to make things flow! I'd follow and play this game for sure.

Let us now if this project hits the mainstream with some more content.

Great work on this!

was a charming little platformer. didnt really notice any bugs. music was nice.

the spring pads are little easy to miss, also i might have missed it but the wall jumping mechanic i dont remember being mentioned. took about 10 minutes for the demo.

all i can really say is add some content, i would have been happy to continue.
