Pretty nice looking little game. I'm not a big fan of the sounds the characters make when they talk, they sound like they're mocking me. xD But the ambient music is super relaxing. The pixel art is gorgeous and the color palette fits perfectly.
I reached a black screen after the old man's monologue, so I guess that's the end of this build. Now I'm curious about the story. Haha! See you in part 2!
I had a weird amount of trouble getting the avatar to get in the chair, but after that, I enjoyed the fishing game! Art is definitely a highlight of the submission.
The art of this game is the highlight of this first iteration. I love the palette and the pixel art, lovely in every sense <3 It's limited gameplay, but I hope to see more in the second part of the jam, and also maybe some tweakes to the fishing minigame? XD It looks a bit too harsh, and I have played Stardew Valley xD
wow, just wow! where to begin! the art is fantastic and beautiful! the color palette choice is soft and spot on for that comfy vibe and the character sprites and portraits just ooze individuality like he’s in a fish bowl that’s so adorable i love it! The music is so atmospheric and calming it really did bring out this whole zen vibe! And to top it off the dialogue was well written and engaging, i was genuinely interested to see what more he would say! However i ran into a couple snags. On my first playthrough, after falling out of the chair, i just could not sit back down and had to refresh the game. Thankfully i had no issues after that! additionally (i believe this is just the end of the game) the screen turns black after discussing looking at the fish i’ve caught. finally i would like to say i am bad at fishing mini games in general but this was pretty tough mainly because i was trying to read the dialogue. Im glad there is no real way to lose so that makes it better but i wouldn’t mind see a difficulty/speed decrease to it! Overall fantastic, beautiful game! I cant wait to see whats in store for phase 2!! :)
This is truly emotive. The image you evoke talking about life while fishing is just breathtaking. I was hooked from the very first moment, although the fishing mecanics made me a bit nervous and I had a hard time trying to get the fish and paying attention to the dialogue. I think dialogue here is essential, it completes the atmosphere and gives meaning to what you're doing. I suggest you give dialogue more priority and importance, and maybe pause dialogue while we're in the fishing task, so we can fully enjoy the nostalgia and love dialogue is creating. I would also love to see which type of fish I have fished ^.^ and how many you need to end the minigame! I felt, too, the final was so abrupt.
Btw music is fascinating and every tiny art detail is great; fishing moving around and the spring breeze atmosphera. Great job. Looking forward to see more!
Cute lil game. Love the art sooo much! Excited to see what comes after the the fishing!
I like the overall vibe. After a few catches I found the fishing part and the dialogue to the left start of feel kind of fighting each other for attention.
the art is amazingly cute, i can feel that the plot of the game would be good but we see so little of it currently. the fishing is a lot of fun. just a great time.
Love the art and the colours and the story was great.
The fishing game was ok, a bit fast and repetitive.
Having to do that umpteen times to progress the dialog was not so great. Felt like I was racing to empty the ocean of fish XD
The sudden black screen end was a bit too abrupt.
Overall, well done. Love to see what you do in phase 2
Really cute art style! It took me a second to realize space bar was for the menu buttons as I usually try Enter first, and I also struggled to understand how to sit in the fishing chair at first. I think something as simple as an [E] icon that floats above it when you approach it would be perfect. I also couldn't tell if the Music and SFX volume buttons were working. No matter which way they were slid I couldn't tell if the volume was changing and the sounds never stopped entirely.
Really cozy art and a great mood. I was a little confused by the controls and couldn't seem to exit the fishing portion of the game. I also struggled to figure out how to get into the actual fishing chair to begin with. I think stream lining your interaction keys would help a lot. Otherwise I think you're onto something here, I loved the design of the old man with the fishbowl head.
I really love the art, the music and the minigame. Sadly i thing i missed half of what the goldfish said because i had to concentrate on fishing. Also at least for now i don't think the distinction between the two action keys is really necessary, at least don't think there was a situation where you could do more than one thing at a time, but I might have missed that. (I'm just mad didn't read the instructions and spent like two minutes trying to get into the chair :)
