The spotlight mechanic gave the game an extra challenge and is fun to use. Good job!

Thanks a lot :)

I may be biased as I love tower defense games, but I spent a lot of time in this one. Really liked the spotlight mechanic, but I feel that it could have been developed further. Congrats for the submission!

Thanks a lot!

We had plenty more thoughts for the game, that we didn't get the time to implement like

  • Using scroll wheel to increase / decrease the spotlights size (to pick out large enemies)
  • Moving guards with a lantern instead of the stationary lanterns on the map
  • Stationary Light towers (placeable)
  • Lightblocking obstacles
  • Enemies rushing behind cover to hide from the light

And a lot more.

the light is a good mechanic, good job!

The spotlight mechanic feels really original and was a lot of fun to use. The only issue I ran into was accidentally placing a tower behind the money bag icon. Aside from that, it was very engaging and kept me wanting to continue playing. I would definitely be interested in a full version of this game in the future.

We will see about a full version ^^ Definitely has not been on our to-do list, but after all the positive feedback, we might have to discuss the option.

Was placing a tower behind the money UI a huge problem though? I know you can also place behind the house. Just curious here :)

That bass is heaaaavyy! I love it! Such a cool mechanic with the light. Great work!

Thanks a lot!

Incredible gameplay, man! It was a bit disappointing that the third level is identical to the second, but that didn't change the fact that you made the most complete gameplay out of all games in the jam. As others here have said, this was probably the longest time I spent in a single game here :)

(1 edit)

That's actually a bug! The third level is different but the "next level" button on the second level is bugged out. Recommend playing the third level from the menu :)

Thanks for the feedback, love to hear that you enjoyed it!

In this jam, this is the game I played the longest. I love that you have to use the spotlight and I love the art style, sound-effects, etc. overall. The only issue gameplay wise: I don't feel like the snipers do a lot of damage - and yet, they are so expensive! I got really far with only using standard towers. But anyway: the game is quite fun! :)

Whaaat? The snipers are absolutely busted haha. One of our devs thought the same way and asked to change something about it, but then he realized they are rather unbalanced than weak. Especially in the third level you really need snipers. I know there's a bug that you don't really pass on to lvl 3 after lvl 2, but repeat the same level. Have you played through level 3 without snipers at all?

Thanks for the feedback though, and thanks for playing!!

Nice game! I love TD games, the targeting of spotlight is a brilliant touch to the targeting system for a TD game. The game has a lot of potential.

There are two important bugs: if you go to the main menu(to restart, for example) the round pass and the only way to go back rounds is to close the game (I skipped to round 8 haha)

The other bug is the button next level in the second level, takes me to the same level. I played the second level 2 times thinking that I was on the third level haha.

I will wait for updates to the game! Congrats on the entry!

Thanks a lot! We're very surprised to see how many people would like this project to continue 😍

Yup the restart is kinda buggy, we were aware of that haha. When you lose and restart you also start the level with 0 paintings left.

And dang that level 2 bug really bugs (hah) me out now. This happened to me when playtesting and I wasn't sure whether it was me or the game. Had played the game so often at that point I couldn't remember whether I played lvl 1 or 2 before haha. That makes much more sense now.

Thanks for the feedback and we'll see where it goes :)

The spotlight mechanic is super unique and was a ton of fun!  The only issue I really ran into was accidentally dropping a tower behind the money bag icon. I would definitely play a non jam version of this game in the future. It kept me wanting to play.

Thanks a ton! Really great to hear. Will discuss it with the team, maybe we will expand on this game in the future ^^

Wow, this is such a unique TD game. I really like it. The mechanic where towers only attack when there’s light has so much potential. For example, you could add a special tower that provides extra light beyond the default stage lighting. Overall, I’m having a lot of fun with this game.

Thank you so much for playing and commenting :)

We did actually plan to implement something like this, but had to scrap it in order to do some polishing and balancing. The lanterns are sorta what we had imagined for that.

Fun game, I really like the idea of a tower defense game being more "active" through basically aiming.

Some notes that I took:

  • Bold choice to include the spotlight in the main menu. At first I thought it was annoying, because I didn't see the buttons, but it's also thematic and in the end, helped me get the importance of the spotlight before even beginning to play.
  • Good thing that you play a sound when the SFX volume slider is adjusted, I didn't think of this for our game.
  • Good job on incuding an info dialog in the beginning, although it was a confusing, maybe due to the layout. Also, I could place towers through them, it should disable the interactions while open.
  • The ability to fix the light in place was very useful, I could point it to a bottleneck while placing additional towers like crazy.
  • I could never defeat the boss. On the 3rd level, I came really close with 3 snipers, but still fell short. Probably could've done it with some more focus, but there were multiple possible lanes to cover, so I'm not sure what the winning strategy for that might be.

Glad you liked it!

I imagined the menu spotlight to be from the side (as it is in game), but we ended up implementing it like this. Good to hear it's cool either way!

The boss is fairly difficult! The sniper really is the unbalanced and unreliable tower (most damage by a lot). You'll need a couple of those to beat the boss. Typical winning strategy for TD basically. Either cover the end with lots of AoE towers or a point where everything comes together. I believe it's the center of the map on level 3. About 3-4 cannons should suffice. A cpl standard towers and then just spam snipers haha

great work!

Thanks a lot :)

Fun tower defense game !! I like the fat enemy walking and the light mechanic was super creative. It really added to the gameplay! Some cool ideas would be to pay to remove obstacles which can add to some more strategy and thinking. Upgrading the towers could be cool too and adding a 2x speed for impatient people like me haha. Good job justdezt and team !

Developer

cool idea with the remove obstacles upgrade! will keep in mind with the team :) thank you

Is really fun to play an addictive, it took me some time to fully undestand how to use the light but after that it gets easier

Really great to hear! Thanks for the comment :)

Cool little tower defense game with a unique mechanic in the spotlight. I have never seen a feature like that used in a game like this and it really does change how it plays! Well done! Thanks for making and sharing it :)

Thank YOU for playing and commenting ;)
