Nice concept and the art style/music work well together. Also, this game takes time to understand as player we need to consider multiple thing which in my opinion is great and fun!

A couple of things I noticed while playing (I understand short time :<, but incase you are continuing this further):

  • Some UI elements feel a bit rough compared to the rest of the visuals (fonts, text clipping).
  • I wasn’t always sure why upgrades were unavailable it felt like I was often stuck with greyed-out options.
  • It also felt like no matter what choices I made, the outcome was the same, so it reduced the sense of strategy.

Overall, solid foundation feels like it could get really interesting with some balancing and polish.

this has the possibility to be very addicting and i think it fits the theme very well! im fond of the characters too especially lil politician guy

Developer

Thanks, I also think it can be made much better with not too much additional work

First of all, congrats on the submission...

What a great concept!

Straightforward gameplay that creates so many possibilities and strategies.

I ended up with grey level most of the time but that is because I was zooming through the options lol and most of the time it felt like just adding the green energy was the right thing to do. I can see a dedicated RTS player spending a hefty amount of time to understand and play the game!

Sweet art style...

The Politician seemed overall better choice as compared to Engineer or Scientist so I would assume the game needs further balance because there's plethora of strats,... regardless the game has a good stage or a starting point for the same.

I believe you would have gotten this suggestion before, but just in case, would love an option to remove tiles, as in the beginning I had many tiles placed accidently while learning the game (unless that is intentional in game design - like most of the policy decisions taken in real world can't be reversed easily). I seemed to always have been low on Production to upgrade so it was almost always greyed out for me.

Made in Godot! Great job on that... I am definitely one of those who do see the power of this engine regardless of all the workarounds you have to pull for being an open source though don't always prefer it XD.

P.S.: My high score was 6000 in about 4 playthroughs, curious what is the best score one can get.

Thank you so much for the in depth review and the nice words and for putting in that much time to understand the game. You're spot on there with the balance issues and why I didn't make the tiles removable, big decisions like building projects and policy changes are very difficult to reverse and that's the idea that I wanted to bring across.
I've made an early decision to use Godot for all my game development because it's open source, but also because the fact that it's not as advanced as Unity or Unreal makes it actually very easy to learn and grow personally with the Godot engine.
My high score is around 12k, but that's only because I know exactly how to win :D the game ended up being more difficult then I meant to make it though

You are 100% right on the learning curve of Godot! Personal fact, I won my first game jam with a game made in Godot 4 :D.
Good Luck!

My best score was 18100, so I think you can still go higher.

Notes from gameplay:

  • I like that you emphasize how a sustainable future is something we need to build together
  • Music is chill
  • Graphics are all cohesive. You picked a cute art style and the characters + world + assets match well. I think the UI could be improved a bit to match this style even better. It's currently functional UI, but not the prettiest font or box styling
  • text is being clipped in some tile descriptions, eg fossil energy cuts off the final line with the g and y of energy not fully displaying
  • Clean air standards, line about paper straw - almost feels like you're making a joke about how mandated standards don't work?
  • Nice hover effect when choosing policies
  • Can't seem to upgrade anything? Always greyed out
  • Oops, we all died
  • Is there any way to REMOVE the fossil fuels? I don't like having to chew up all the nature :(
  • I wish I could upgrade green energy vs fossil fuels
  • Seems like no matter what I pick, we all die from pollution eventually. Bleak!

Thank you for the feedback
There is no way to remove the tiles, but you can upgrade them with the production resource, it's a good idea to focus early on stockpiling a bit of production and using that to upgrade the starting tiles

Uff, didn't wan't you to have such a bleak experience,  sorry about that, the game balance needs a lot of work....
