A very well made game, the little animations sprinkled all around are delightful. It's a simple puzzle game but and maybe that was what your were going for, it seems there is no fail condition or I didn't get it, that would give the game a bit more replayability and I would suggest that digging a new canal doesn't need a click on the previous, the player can just click the adjacent tiles. It even has a save game which I didn't even think about in my game :D music and sound effects are spot on as well. Overall I really enjoyed playing this game, great job
Really appreciate the feedback!
Yes, the fail condition was supposed to be a soft fail which connected to the overall narrative, the level themselves lacked a bit of balance which made it look like there was no fail state :( - again, a learning experience for sure on the game design side and scoping !
We will definitely implement your suggestion of about digging the canal by only clicking adj. tiles instead of previous then adjacent!
Thank you for playing the game and the helpful suggestions!
Awesome entry! Very well polished for a jam game, congrats!
Gameplay is relaxing, although too simple, even with the late levels. I knew the technic before, but your game just makes it perfectly clear how the "magic" works. The poems were a nice touch, but the "collective" side wasn't as present in the gameplay sadly.
You did an amazing job, well done!
Thank you so much for your feedback!
I 100% agree we couldn't showcase the community element, we had the mechanics planned and the art work ready! but unfortunately we ran out of time and it stayed in our backlog :( - but left us with a good lesson, always pay attention to the scope of the project and plan accordingly!
Again, thanks for playing and leaving us with kind words, appreciate it!
The polish and juice is off the charts and the art style is so lush!! The level win sequence might be my favourite thing from this whole jam! This would make a really excellent touchscreen game for mobile.
I understand you wanted a calm, contemplative mood but to give it that satisfying puzzle feel, the pit limit needs to be a little harsher, at least on later levels.
Thank you so much for the feedback!
The touch screen idea is really sweet, worth exploring.
I totally agree with your take on the difficulty curve for that satisfying puzzle feel - it is definitely a miss on our part and a learning experience as I messed up on the scope of the game, so even though the difficulty scaling factor was there in design, we had to choose between new implementation or bug fixing. XD
Thank you so much for playing and definitely glad you enjoyed the art and the win sequence!
Notes from gameplay:
Awesome concept and I love the text blurbs and poetry to help tell the story of the land's renewal. The concept the game is based on is a really cool ecological idea and it was fun to see it actualized in a game! Everything is very cohesive, just needs some tuning to make it more challenging. I would totally play a version of this on my phone, feels like a great game I could pop in to solve a level of while waiting for the bus.
Thanks for the detailed review! It’s really insightful for us seeing how players perceived each aspect of the gameplay.
