I wasn't too sure what to do due to the lack of UI elements but this gave me a serious throwback to gta chinatown wars on the nds lol

The controls felt pretty difficult, and I wasn’t sure what to do after stealing a car, so the objective wasn’t very clear. Adding clearer UI and better early instructions would really help, but the idea is strong and fits the theme well!

Thanks for playing! Yeah the lack of UI in conjunction with the difficult controls make for a not so user friendly experience. Glad you liked the idea though!

The controls were a bit hard to figure out (specially the car jacking), but it was a fun experience after that, brought some old-school GTA vibes like mentioned before. Keep it up!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Happy you got the GTA inspiration and had some fun.

Solid start, the idea of car jacking game is nice and you got some good core mechanics going! I did do a better job the second time I tried to play but the driving still feels a bit clunky and difficult, to the point of frustration.

3 minutes are very short when sometimes you randomly spawn at the other end of the map from your extraction point, and have such a long distance to drive, whilst other times the spot is quite close by. It would be nice I think to make sure that, if the timer runs so short, you're always within a reasonable distance.

A few small polish elements could improve the experience a lot. For low-effort improvements, I'd suggest randomizing the car colours between a few colours (using a white base car and the self_modulate property) and adding a few sound effects. Music and sound improve a game considerably, and if you spend an hour on that you can already get in a lot!

Nice work, you've implemented a bunch of cool systems!

Thank you for playing! I based the 3 minute duration on my ability to play the game which is a really flawed perspective as I came to realize and you are supposed to win some time back (15 seconds) after extracting a car which again is not really enough for someone who hasn't literally built the game but I really like your idea about adjusting the distance to the next extraction point according to the time left on the clock. Agreed on the polish too, I had plans but I didn't organize my time that well so in order to publish something at least playable I cut stuff like audio and a proper UI. Thanks for the great feedback!

It’s a great top-down game that captures that old-school GTA 1-2 vibe. The city feels vast and full of adventure. However, the driving feels a bit clunky. I struggled to keep the car going straight. But overall, it's a solid game!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you mention the old GTAs since that is what I was going for! I couldn't spend as much time as I wanted on the car physics and controls hence the awkward driving. Keeping it straight is a challenge in itself.

I found the controls very difficult, and I also had no idea what my objective was after stealing a car! I think game would benefit a lot from having clearer UI and instructions, especially at the beginning. Overall it's a nice idea and hits the theme very well!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Agreed that there is a dire need for some form of UI.

I couldn't for the life of me get one of the cars to move :( Also if possible in the future you could make the front and back of the person more obvious to know where I'm looking at.

Developer

Thanks for playing! It probably wasn't turned on but even if you turn a car on you don't get any feedback so its understandable to not figure that out :P. Yeah I agree the character model combined with the control scheme makes maneuvering hard and unintuitive.

I think it might be broken--Unfortunately I wasn't able to carjack a car. Maybe I wasn't positioned correctly? The controls were extremely difficult to maneuver with, so it was hard to come at it from different angles.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes you are supposed to be next to either of the car's doors in order to be able to enter it but your comment about the controls is accurate. It became obvious when I saw someone trying to play the game live.
