the art style is great, very shadowy and myserious! The mechanic is bananas, i love how specific and strange it is (though i got soft locked a few times). Very cool to see a big-swing entry like this in the jam, so many moving parts / dialogue / visuals / physics. madness. hope you had fun jamming (again!)
thanks man! Yea it was ambitious for a jam, still didn't even use the full 9 days but its something! Even made some title music haha. Had fun making something differen, when I read the prompt it just came to me.
The game seemed rather promising, but its pretty buggy; even the desktop build is very rough. I found myself stuck on the ledge of walls that didn't seem like you could pass through, only to then fall off the world (twice).
I got up to the hospital scene in my 2nd attempt, and it seems rather interesting! The art gave off a vibe that I really like. I'd definitely play again if you fix up the falling-off-the-map issues in a post-jam patch.
Edit: apparently I was literally a click of a button away from the ending😅you should still fix those issues though/
Thanks! Yea, it's the nature of jams really. It's hard to test as the developer as I know how to play without breaking it lol. It's been really condensed for the jam, I planned a few more levels of puzzles and more mechanics like controlling bullets etc. However, there was no time. I'm not sure If i'll reallly bother to re-visit this as I've got other projects i'm focusing on. But it's a fun idea, unsure if the mechanic is just annoying or not!
This is a really cool concept and set up and definitely has a ghostly aesthetic! I did have trouble getting very far, like a few others seem to have, and also couldn't get past the manhole cover :(. FYI, on my first run, something funky happened with the camera in the cafe - it look like it got offset by 90 deg, and all the dialogue and buttons were off to the left.
Thanks, yea the camera angle changes I did just with trigger colliders. It was probably not the best way but it was quicker for me. So if you walk through the trigger a few times while rotating it may cause some camera angle issues. And yea, the manhole part is I guess a bit tricky but it's certainly doable! Try the windows build and just work the manhole cover into the hole as best you can. She will walk over it fine! It's just the nature of a game jam game really!
I really liked the atmosphere and overall mood! It’s a very ambitious game for such a short amount of time, and honestly, you handled it quite well.
I tried both the web version and, after running into a few bugs, switched to the Windows version, which worked better for me. I do have to admit I got soft-locked a few times, but in the end I still managed to finish it and just to be safe, I also checked out a playthrough.
Once the jam is over and you polish it a bit, this could turn into a really nice little gem! Keep it up!
Thanks so much! Honestly I just don't have the time in my life to put as much time into a game jam even with 9 days. Still lots of commitments that take up time. I'm not sure I will bother with this game after the jam tbh, i may put an updated build that fixes a couple things but otherwise It may just stay as is. Not sure yet, It would need a lot of people actually wanting it for me to put more in. But thank you! I appriciate the words.
I really like the atmosphere here, it's incredible work! It's probably just me being dumb, but I had trouble progressing very far. Good work overall! :)
thank you! Yea, it's a bit tricky with the current janky game jam controls, but if you use the windows build it is possible to get through! Just check the playthrough video if you just want to see it all :)
I thought it was clever to stylise assets like that and turn around a 3d game in a short time. The main mechanic was a cool idea but I found it too fiddly to get past the manhole cover bit.
Yea, for some reason controlling the movement of objects is way harder in the web build than in the Windows build. It makes no sense but this is an issue i've noticied in Unity, web builds can be drastically different with physics controls.
I really like the theming, and the visuals/setting really help to sell the experience! Unfortunately, the gameplay was a bit inconsistent, I had trouble progressing very far. If you're able to shore up the physics of moving objects, it would go a long way towards making the experience more enjoyable.
Download the windows build. I promise you it works better, web builds from unity for some reason can be very different to other builds.
I was playing on the Windows build. The physics were far from unplayable, but I was still experiencing inconsistent behavior that made the experience frustrating. For example, after replacing the manhole cover, the girl would walk most of the way across it, then start flailing her arms and fall over dead, all without actually falling into the hole... I tried a few more times and got the same result several times in a row, with no clear indicator of how to place the manhole "correctly." Again, I still think the concept and theming are handled really well. The gameplay could just use some tweaking and polish.
Ah I see what you mean. Yes, so the reason that may happen is there's "on ground" detection on the girl character. It's got a slight delay on it so if there's a gap under her for too long she is "falling". For now to prevent her falling forever in that case, she will die if falling too long. Of course this can not always be the case, and in a full released version would be much more tuned. However for now, just working the manhole cover into the hole with as small gaps around it as possible will allow her to walk over it. Please do remember it's a 9 day game jam, and i only used a few hours in 7 of the days, thanks for playing! I hope the rest of the game was interesting enough for you
I see. Thanks for the explanation. I totally understand not having enough time to polish everything, and I don't want to come across as too critical. This is still a very impressive game!
Had to try a few times as I ran into a few bugs and soft locks. very ambitious for the amount of time and you clearly have a great understanding of mood, post processing etc. well done!
Thank you! Yes this is one thing I said in the discord, I bit off more than I could chew and didn't get to do more than 1 actual puzzles level, and all my ideas and plans for the story got essentially skipped. But ah well, thats the nature of it!
Really like the aesthetic! Really set the mood.
And making the only interactable objects colored or black amidst a world of grays and white made it very intuitive to know what to do next, very nice!
Thanks! That was the hopes with making things coloured for importance! glad it seems to have worked
Love the visuals. Very creepy and surreal but calming at the same time. Movement was good although the UI seems out of place with the rest of the look. Good job!
Thank you! Yea, the UI was a bit rushed, I was probably better off just doing screen space dialogue at the bottom of the screen rather than in the world space above their heads. But I wanted to try something a bit different.
This is super different and unique. Really cool short story, your game has amazing atmosphere and a dope style. I loved how you made the UI for dialogue - everything was really intuitive to pick up and looks great. Nice work :)
Thank you! I wish I had time for more puzzle levels.
Nicely done. The visuals were interesting, and I liked how color was used to make important interactables stand out. The possession mechanic was fun and led to some cool puzzle ideas. Even with a bug here and there, the camera work was good, and I liked the take on the theme. This was fun.
Thank you! There's so much I want to fix and tweak to make better, with all the aspects you mentioned! working with physics isn't always easy. If i had time I had SO many ideas where to take the mechanic, e.g. a mugging scenario where they have a gun, and you control the bullets!
I like the chosen combination of art and music, the game feels unsettling and engaging.
Can't move past the Hello dialogue. I click next, it just keeps repeating Hello and ellipses. Art style is cool. Vibe is a little spooky, which fits.
yep that's intended, you're a ghost and she can't see you. Follow the colour red. Try walking through the door next to the counter in the cafe.
i got stuck on the bar and dont understand how to move the camera wich is the reason why i cant see anything
The bar? as in the cafe? the camera should follow you around at set points, setting an angle you can see. try walking around or back where you came and you should hit a point the camera moves. if it's after you go in the red door, just walk forward
Ok ill try agai
