How does your game fit either (or both) genres?
Our character uses magic in a non-linear world blended with techno-medievalism. Both her cloak and magic amulet incorporate tech elements, sporting a magical girl-inspired aesthetic.

Chosen theme(s) and relevant explanations
The world features a Rust aesthetic, representing abandoned technology that has corrupted the villagers' minds and bodies, transforming them into zombies. The setting is a ruined, ghost-town city. Pearl-themed battery items are central to the mechanics. To open the final door leading to the museum (currently the villagers' temple), the player must collect 5 ancient energy battery-pearls hidden in the depths of K'elona.

Optional challenges explanations, if applicable
not applied.

the art is peak in this game def gives the GBC vibe, i could jump around while locked in crouch not sure if that's intended but that made it easier to access pearls LMAO. cool world but it is hard to navigate, climbing the ladders is a bit funky overall enjoyable i like

Very cool looking and sounding game, but it is very hard to navigate the world, I spent a lot of time thinking the game doesn't work, until I read the description to find out that it's not supposed to work, like you can crouch and try moving and play the movement animation but remain in place, it's really weird to go for double tap, but also the ladders are very hard to climb, it also seems like oftentimes it looks like there is only one way to go,and it looks like you should be able to reach it with your jump, but the character doesn't make it by a few pixels (vertical).

Yeah, it is built like the old-school, bugged, and hardcore games... all the places have correct routes to be reached in an easy way. And the bugs are not bugs, they are features. Hahahaha!

Very cool game with gorgeous artwork and character animations, and a great soundtrack, but very labyrinthine and confusing!

I had to press every button on the keyboard to find out that U/I switched between equipped items (I don't think it was mentioned in the description), and then even more trial and error to figure out how to actually use the relic (that it only gave me a limited window in which to strike enemies with the sword). In general, I think having to use the relic basically every time you want to attack is very redundant and hurts the pacing of the game a lot.

(It might help a bit if the relic was its own dedicated keybind, rather than having to constantly switch back and forth. If there can be three keybinds, one for using and two for switching back and forth, then there might as well be one keybind for using each of the three items individually. The math is the same but it's much more convenient for the player! That said, I still think it'd be best if you could just attack enemies.)

The ladders also seemed a bit buggy. Enemies were able to push me off the ladder and my character would be stuck in the air playing the climbing animation. In one spot (near a cave at the bottom of the large waterfall behind the town), I was able to climb an invisible ladder. Not being able to move left and right on the ladder was also a bit annoying, since I couldn't pass through the gap at the top if I started climbing too off-center.

It was also hard to actually get off the top of the ladder, as my character would often just fall back to the bottom like a rock. I basically had to align my character close enough to the side of the ladder so that she's land on one pixel of the platform after climbing to the top.

I did manage to find a bunch of pearls, but in the end, the slow-paced combat and exploration, and getting reset all the way back to the beginning every death, was a bit too punishing for me. Still, a very cool game whose style and ambition definitely lives up to the classics!

the relics use is thinking in a gameboy way... in gameboy we have just A, B, d-pad, start and select... We tried to make it functional without inventory/menu for changing equipment. but... well... its weird gameplay I confess. hahaha

but, bro, thank you for this feedback. it matters a lot.

If the goal was to emulate the old school jank then I think the mission has definitely been accomplished! Personally, resetting all the way to the beginning of the game on death is kind of the cutoff point for when I'm willing to try and push through the challenge, but I can definitely see and appreciate the vision!

I really like the art and animations! its whole vibe is great, the whole retro handheld vibe works well, though my sword doesnt seem to do anything and the movement feels a bit janky, like i would suddenly stop for no reason, other than that is a really cool game! the story and concept are also awesome

Wow this game is really impressive! The sprites and music are fantastic, it feels like something you'd really play on the game boy. It's also very challenging and I didn't quite get to the end - I had 4 pearls and then died. But I think I'll come back and try later because this was one of the top entries I tried so far.

Amazing aesthetics!

Now sure where to go and what to do. My sword does not seem to harm anybody, and other tools also have no visible effect on anything. It would be great to have a basic tutorial before jumping into a maze of dead ends ¦3
