What and why?

A game jam is a game development event where the participants have a fixed amount of time to create a game. Usually the created games are designed around a theme, which is revealed at the start of the jam.
There are also diversifiers; optional subthemes, constraints and ideas, to give added challenge to veteran jammers.

The Finnish College Jam was created as an initiative to boost the co-operation of Finnish game development academies, to help students improve their skills and meet new contacts.

We are proud to announce the special 10th edition and five-year-anniversary of this jam, aiming to keep this tradition going strong!  

The Finnish College Jam is part of the Finnish Game Jam Organization.

Schedule?

The Jam will start with a prerecorded video, wherein the theme will be revealed. Once you have seen the video and are ready to start jamming, you can team up and start making their games on our Discord server!

All of the created games will be uploaded here and are publicly available to be played, shared and downloaded. All uploads must be complete before the final deadline on midnight Thursday 26.3. at 23:59.

We highly encourage all participants to maintain a healthy lifestyle and schedule throughout the two weeks of jamming for both personal well-being and optimal performance.

Rating and Criteria

After the turn-in time has been completed people who have submitted a game can start rating the other games to see which ones shined the most.

Submitters & contributors — Both submitter and contributors to submissions can vote 

Discord and Rules?

We use our Discord server as the base of all teamwork and communications during the Jam. We want to maintain a warm, secure and professional atmosphere for everyone to enjoy!

That’s why we all represent ourselves and our respective organizations in a positive light, using our real names. We treat ourselves and each other with respect, at all times.

The goal is to have fun together, create interesting games and to forge new bonds of co-operation across schools in Finland!

Diversifiers:

• Color Palette
  
  • Your game implements, in part or full, the official jam color palette.

• Alone / Together
  • Your game meaningfully changes depending on whether the player is alone or accompanied, even in single-player form.

• Based / Cringe
  • Your game explores the duality of what can be perceived as admirable or embarrassing depending on context, perspective, or time.

• Revisit / Reimagine
  • Your game revisits a game from a previous Finnish College Jam and reimagines it from a new perspective, context, or design focus.

• Shelter / Exposure
  • Your game alternates between spaces of safety and vulnerability, either mechanically or emotionally.

• Fragile Landscape
  • Your game presents an environment that is beautiful but temporary, unstable, or altered by interaction.

• One Sound, Two Meanings
  • Your game uses a single recurring sound that takes on opposing interpretations depending on context.

• Ten Moments
  • Your game is structured around ten discrete states, scenes, rules, or beats.
