A really cool game! The gameplay fun but confusing. i felt like i only really understood how to play after i beat the last boss lol. and the bosses need a some polishing especially on there hit boxes for the Judge, still a lot of fun tho! The Music was amazing too! Those sampled drums went crazy! Would love to see a Release of the OST. the Art so cool too! i really liked the art style, it reminded me of a children story book (Which is a good thing!). The dialogue was pretty funny too. Luno reminded me of "if Undertale was Realistic" Frisk who is hilarious.
Overall a really cool game with great Gameplay, Music, Art, and dialogue!
Am I right lads or am I right lads? Thanks for the feedback, I definitely should've made some of the game mechanics clearer, like the fact that Judgement can only be damaged by hitting the bells. I also just uploaded the OST to Youtube : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjQEXBJCIs_ev0QyXF_eNd3WkeeGqXy0l
YOU ARE RIGHT LAD!
Fun combat for sure! No complaints with the bosses, they're all pretty fair from the three I got through and they looked very nice. My only two complaints are that the controls were a little rough and I think some sound effects would really make it pack some more punch! Overall, pretty fun game though!
I've been looking forward to playing this one, and it was really really good! The music was very nice, the art was awesome, and the gameplay was really fun. Like other people have said, the controls are a bit hard to get used to. Most people are used to jumping with space, so making jump W and space dash was challenging to get the hang of. The direction the bombs got thrown in felt a bit inconsistent sometimes - i'd try to throw them up, so that I could hit two at once with the ultradash, but often times one of them would go to the right. I think there's a way to cancel the dash, as I saw you do it in the video pitch, but that wasn't explained in the tutorial, and I wasn't able to use it in my playthrough. I think the designs of the bosses were all very cool. The first boss was very simple and easy, just letting me get used to the controls, which was nice. However, when I died to it, it put me back at the start of the seemingly unskippable tutorial, which wassn't great. I loved the visual design of the second boss, and the attack where you have to dash through the specific part of the attack was cool. It was pretty easy, but i loved the design. The third boss was really awesome. I loved how, instead of attacking the boss directly, you're forced to engage with the dash to break projectiles mechanic. I think this boss was definitely the hardest, just due to the amount of projectiles that you couldn't dash through. I think it would have been easier if I had realized you could cancel the dash. The fourth boss was really fun too, I love how it starts seeming incredibly easy, and then you slowly introduce new variables to the enviornment that make it more challenging, building off of the same attack rather than making more. Also, the game didn't scale up when I went to fullscreen unfortunately, not a big deal but it would have been nice if it had. I also think you're supposed to have an exe file in submissions for this jam, which I don't believe you had. Overall though, really really fun game, great work!! I'd love to see an updated version of this with more content and smoother controls later on as well.
Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it! I'm working on an updated version, and the first thing i'm adding is a control revamp and custom keybinds, since im incapable of designing a human-compatible control scheme of course. I also initially planned a smaller (skippable) tutorial before each level which explained mechanics that would be useful for the level (dash cancel is spacebar btw), but i ended up cramming it in last minute. Im adding another boss as well.
Hell yeah! Can't wait to play the updated version ^^
It was fun to play. At first, I was annoyed at the controls, but as I kept playing, I got used to them, so it worked out.
Thanks, props to you for getting used to the abominable controls
Neat idea! The story was really intriguing and the music was banging. Loved the artwork too. Would have been really fun... if the controls weren't so terrible. For future reference, it'll probably be better to make it such that the dash direction doesn't snap to cardinal right when you let go of the directional keys, and also if it's important to constantly be pressing the directional keys, don't have controls that force a player to lift their fingers off those keys. Still, was a great attempt! And the bosses were very creative!
Thank you! I got so used to the controls during the jam, i just changed them in a new build of the game and, damn, theyre so much better. idk what the hell i was on
the boss fights are amazing!
thanks!
The game oozes with personality, and I enjoy the dialogue quite a bit. I like that you can dash into the bombs to increase the amount of projectiles you have, and I also enjoy the dash mechanic in general and how it flows with what the player can do (although I didn't know you could change the direction of the dash until I watched the pitch video). The soundtrack has some bangers, and I like the main character. As for criticism, I would say that I wish that there were more sound effects and stuff in the sound department. Also, I feel like the mechanics could be explained a bit better, perhaps?
Thanks! Yeah the tutorial was really last minute so it doesnt show off the mechanics too well, also agree on the sound effects
this game was so great. from the art, to the music, to the gameplay. everything close to perfect. only one negative is the controls. they really suck and made me never use the ultra dash or bombs...
If you wanna know how i picked the controls, i threw my keyboard down the stairs and saw which keys fell out lmao. but really, thank you
Hey, I played your game and I really enjoyed it! The whole idea of Luno and the Outsiders is creative, and the gameplay feels unique and fast-paced
I especially liked the intro cutscene and the boss fights, they added a lot of personality. The story and setting make it stand out among other jam entries
Great work! I’m also in the jam, so if you get a chance to check my game I’d love to hear what you think
Thank you, i'll check it out
Game was a blast, the hyper nature of it was super super cool, never really played anything like it. I think the video pitch needed a voice or hook of some kind though, it wasn't super engaging. Overall the game itself was fantastic!
Thanks! For sure wouldve loved to do more with the video if I had the time.
I love the intro cutscene.
Really cool and unique gameplay. My favorite boss was Freedom, they were fun to fight.
Really one of my favorites
