Cool idea with the music. It is not clearly visible were to jump while the screen is switching place, but otherwise it's a nice game. the theme is well implemented. I liked the characters names und the dialog was funny.

Developer

Thanks for playing and the feedback. A few comments about jumping and switching screens; I'm taking note of them!

This is very impressive!! Best I've seen thus far, you really did a lot with your time and the theme. Great work

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the kind words! They are very encouraging. :)

Phew that got really hard! Great use of the theme, im a big fan of getting the band back together stories like VVVVV and Outer Wilds, sort of bonkers how much level design you managed to do in that amount of time, very impressive!

Developer

VVVVV is an all time favourite of mine! (Also very definitely an inspiration for this one.) Thanks for the feedback, and hosting this jam!

Loved all the characters in the start telling the story - all with different voices. It was a nice touch to have only the bongos playing when they left as well that was super cool. The platforming was really challenging and satisfying - I found myself annoying this a lot. Great entry well done!

Thanks for playing and the kind words!

Really well thought out platforming challenge. We'd thought of doing something of this nature with the music (ended up on a different theme) and I'm glad to see someone went for it!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing and the feedback! I think there's possible more design space to explore with the whole 'follow the sound' and layering sounds thing. Definitely something I'll be looking to revisit one day!

Really solid platformer. I was impressed by the amount of different areas you were able to include, as well as one of my favorite features being the layered music track. The only things that I have to suggest for improvement are some constant camera transitions in some areas, and getting caught on platforms when jumping from under a gap, but Overall a very solid entry

Thanks for the kind words and feedback! I've got updates lined up (post jam) for the camera and jumping issues. :)

The way that the music added more instruments as you got closer / rescued more of the band members was really cool! I also enjoyed the alliteration in everyones names.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I did have fun alliterating (is that a word?) the names!

Great platformer! Really enjoyed the intro and premise. Great idea to find your friends. So many games have no real goal. Great job!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!

The style is really cute! I had a lot of fun, and you did a great job incorporating the theme! I’m a huge fan of platformers! they’re part of my childhood, and I have to say you’ve managed to make a really nice one.

There are a few things that could use some tweaking, but looking at the comments, “Dr. Bean” was pretty clear, so repeating that wouldn’t be helpful.

Great job! Keep it up!

Thank you for these kind and encouraging words! Appreciate the feedback, and very glad you had fun playing!

What a great game for the jam! The story and characters are really endearing and do a great job incorporating the theme into the presentation and gameplay. I'm sucker for platformers, so I enjoyed the gameplay a lot as well.

However, I do still have some critiques: First, the platforming feels too claustrophobic at times, especially in areas with 1-tile vertical gaps. The character/wall hitboxes could definitely be more forgiving. Alternatively, you could implement corner nudging to help prevent the player from catching on the walls during tight jumps. Second, there are a few sections where the camera switching between adjacent rooms is a bit jarring (specifically, any areas with consistent vertical movement between rooms, like the area with the springs and moving platforms). I wonder if it would make more sense to implement a smoother camera that moves with the player?

To be clear, this was still a fantastic experience for me, and I'm really impressed by the level of polish and character that's on display here! Amazing work!

Thanks so much for this feedback and I'm really happy you enjoyed despite the critiques you raised, both of which I think are very fair. I wasn't aware of corner nudging (aka corner correction?), but this seems like an obvious improvement to implement. The camera movement I will have to think about. I did design a few sections around the idea of a fixed camera, so I feel the game would lose something switching to a follow camera. But maybe there's something I can do to make the transitions less jarring, or perhaps a custom follow for certain rooms. Thanks so much for the feedback - much appreciated!

For anyone else not aware of corner correction, I wish I'd found this post earlier!

Nice polish touch having the rescued band member's instruments follow along. I also really liked how each one added to the music track; that was super cool. There's some good level design here too, especially how new mechanics get introduced in safer spots before getting used in trickier sections.

Really awesome take on the theme. The platforming was engaging, the puzzle design was solid, and the visuals looked good too. Loved the main character's jump animation, as well

Thank you for the kind words! It is very satisfying to me to hear those details were noticed and appreciated :). And yep, I was very happy with the jump animation too!

It looks like a lot has gone into this in the space of the game jam! well fleshed out, it's quite a tricky platformer too! Only thing is, the music got annoying after a while haha, sorry but the percussion notes are just way too loud and repeat too often, so combining that with frustration of missing jumps made me lose attention quicker. Otherwise, nice

Developer

Thanks for giving this a go and your feedback! I think that's a very fair point on the music. I had a longer more dynamic track planned, but in the end only had time to stick with the short loop for the jam. I plan to update to the full track once the jam is over (along with a few bug fixes).

The intro is really well done, it’s great! The music reminds me of George of the Jungle for some reason :D , I really like it, it’s very charming, the platforming feels nice, and everything comes together perfectly.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing and the kind words!  Maybe it was the bongos that reminded you of George? :)
