The GameName Game Jam will help you level up fast! You’ll ship a real game quickly, gain valuable feedback and visibility, connect with other creators, have a lot of fun, and build momentum for success in this- and future projects!

The GameName Game Jam features, like, a billion perks as well...

Okay, maybe there are only 4 perks, but they're really really good perks, trust.

Consideration for the GameName incubator program!

Consideration for a GameName publishing deal!

The best games submitted may be played on the SocksStudios YouTube channel!

Invincible can refer to many things and can be used in many ways, so get creative! Thinking outside the box is encouraged!

Here are some example ideas to spark your creativity! (You're completely free to take any of these and just go with it)

👹 You are the final boss
🦇 Megabonk/Vampire Survivor-like
🚸 How many 6-year-olds can you beat in a fight?
🦸‍♂️ Homelander simulator
⭐ Invincibility is temporary
👻 Horror game where you try to remove the monster's invincibility so you can fight back
💪 Helping someone feel invincible

Submissions must meet the following qualifications:

  • Build: Windows or Browser build required
  • Controls: Keyboard + Mouse required (controller support encouraged, optional)
  • Your game page must include at least 3 screenshots. (A short gameplay video is recommended).
  • Your game page should have a short hook description + clear controls/instructions
  • Your game can not contain NSFW or excessive gore
  • NO AI-GENERATED CONTENT
  • (Not a requirement, but would be really cool): Gameplay clips of early stages of your game that would be interesting or funny to show in the SocksStudios video (i.e. early programmer art, funny bugs, etc.)

  • You may use any engine of your choosing, as long as it can build to web or Windows.
  • Using pre-existing code and libraries is allowed as long as you have the legal rights to use them.
  • You should not make stuff ahead of time that is specifically for this jam.
  • You can create a blank game project in your engine, a Github page, or your itch.io profile in advance to save time.
  • You have to have full legal rights to any asset used for this game.
  • You are not allowed to use generative AI to make art or audio assets for your game, or your game page. This will lead to the game being disqualified.

After the jam ends, SocksStudios will play through some of the top-rated games on YouTube and standout games will be considered for an incubator program offer by GameName!

  • When the jam ends, there’s a seven-day period in which you get to play the other games made for the jam, provide feedback and rate your experience.
  • On top of that a panel of experts and morons will act as judges for the jam!
  • The panel of judges will play the top community-rated games, come together and figure out their top 3 games per category, as well as the overall winner of the jam!
  • The prizes listed below are given to the games chosen by the judges, not the community. This is mainly to keep things fair and keep people from spam-voting. However, the top voted game by the community will win the Steam Deck OLED.
  • During the rating period, submissions will be locked, meaning you can’t upload a different build at this time. Deleting your game during this period means we can not help you and you will be disqualified from the jam.
  • Your game page should not have a link to another build (such as “I fixed the bug in level 1, click here for the fixed build”). This would mean disqualification from the jam.
  • Changing your game’s page during this period is perfectly fine. Meaning thumbnail, screenshots, description texts, etc. can all be changed. The majority of ratings happen at the start of this period, so it’s recommended to finish your game’s page as fast as possible.
  • When the rating period is over you are free to update your game however you like—continue working on it, releasing it on other platforms, charging money for it, donate it to the homeless, etc. After all, the game is all yours!

GENERAL

Q. Do I have to follow the jam's theme?

A. Yes. The theme is important, it helps ensure your game is made during the jam.

Q. Can I start early?

A. No. All work must be done after the theme is announced. You can practice skills beforehand, but the actual work on your entry must happen during the jam.

Q. Can beginners join?

A. Yes. Developers of any skill level are welcome!

Q. What if physical prizes cause shipping problems to me, or I'm in a team, making it hard to share the physical prize?

Physical prizes may be substituted with a cash equivalent of comparable value at our discretion or upon recipient request, including but not limited to cases where shipping is impractical or cost-prohibitive.

Q. Can a game win multiple prizes?

Yes. If a game is so good that it ends up in the top 3 of multiple categories it will receive all the respective prizes.

SUBMISSIONS

Q. When do I submit my build?

A. Your build needs to be submitted BEFORE the end of the jam.

Q. What happens when I miss the submission deadline?

A. Missing the deadline will forfeit you from the jam, so it's good to make sure you create your final build with enough time left. Even missing it by 1 minute will lock you out of submitting. You will also be thrown in the pit in our backyard which we started digging 3 years ago, so as you can imagine it’s pretty deep by now.

Q. Can I update my submission after the deadline by providing a link on my game page?

A. No. Your game page should not have a link to another build (such as “I fixed the bug in level 1, click here for the fixed build”). This would mean disqualification from the jam.

TOOLS

Q. What engine can I use?

A. Any engine, as long as the game can be submitted as a browser game, or Windows game. For this reason, game-platform engines like Roblox and Fortnite are not allowed.

Q. Can I use generative AI to create my game?

A. No. Generative AI is cringe and not allowed.

Q. Can I use third party assets, such as 3D models, or audio?

A. Yes, as long as you have the rights to use those assets.

Q. Can I use old code or assets?

A. Using code snippets, assets, self-made libraries/tools is all fine. Reusing an entire project is not fine.

Q. My engine crashed/corrupted, can I get a deadline extension?

A. No. Engine issues are part of the challenge and a skill issue. (L)

Q. Can I switch engines mid-jam?

A. Yes, as long as this doesn’t make you lose the final deadline, of course.

Q. Can I scrap my idea and start again midway through the jam?

A. Yes, you can.

TEAMS

Q. Do I need a team?

A. No. You’re free to work alone, or in a team. There is also no limit to team size.

Q. Can I form a team mid-jam?

A. Yes, as long as the team is listed in the game page.

Q. I asked a friend who does graphic design to make a logo for the game, and asked a friend who’s into music to make a song for the game. Am I working in a team now?

A. That's up to you. You can see it in the same way as finding a logo online, or finding a royalty free song online. They’re just assets you acquired in some way. The line between ‘help from friends’ and working as a team is pretty vague at the end of the day, so it really doesn’t matter all that much. In case a publishing opportunity from GameName comes up though, you'll have to figure out who's truly on the team and who isn't.

Q. If I work in a team, does every team member need to submit the game individually?

A. No. There would be one team member submitting the project for the whole team. Simply add every team member as a collaborator on the game page, or list every team member in the description (or even both 😱)

RIGHTS

Q. Do I give up rights to my game by submitting it for this game jam?

A. No. You keep all the rights to your own project. You’re completely free to post the game online for others to play, you’re also free to continue working on it and even launch it as a commercial game on platforms such as Steam. It’s even perfectly fine to post about your game’s creation, such as creating a devlog for it. If we really love your game and think it has big potential, we may invite you to our new Incubator Program or even make a Publishing offer!

Q. Can I post anything related to my game before the Socksfor1 video about the game jam is posted?

A. Yes. You’re free to post about the jam, publish your game, any of the sort before the SocksStudios video covering the game jam is posted.

VIDEO

Q. Will my game appear in the socksStudios video with 100% certainty?

A. No. There’s a chance your game won’t be shown in the video. This can be because of game quality, or because there are too many entries to cover them all.

Q. Can my game contain gore, NSFW content, etc.?

A. Sexual content, excessive gore (like really really extreme), hateful/abusive themes are not allowed.

Q. Q. Do I have to be on camera for the SocksStudios video?

A. No. You will not be on camera for the video (unless you’re Nicolas Cage. We love your work and would love to work with you, please contact us, you can absolutely be on camera).
