I was a little overwhelmed at first with the tutorials and all the ingredients but I realized it wasn't as complex as it seemed and I like how much freedom you have to experiment, especially with how cheap items are. I also really appreciate that you list both the working recipes and failed recipes. I think that's critical when there are so many different combinations. The golems actually fighting and not just being a stat comparison was really cool and I imagine that wasn't easy to do in a week. Great work!

Nice one! There are a lot of systems for a game jam!
I got to a point where I couldn't buy any more potion items 🤣
Hello fellow make your own sounds enjoyers 💪💪
The large wall of text tutorial did scare me but the game is also really easy to pickup somehow, prob because you don't really penalize the player much for losing fights, only just brewing bad potions. I do think some of the combos can be pretty busted but that is also part of the enjoyment of the game! I was a bit confused for a bit why I would win medium tiered fights, go and bet, then somehow end up losing to the easy guy but I suppose its all just based on matchups and builds. There is def a lot of depth in build variety which is really impressive for a jam game!
"The pain means its working!" said me like a hundred times during this jam.
Excellent game. In a week where I've brewed so many potions, this game actually gave me the motivation to want to keep brewing. I really liked all the potion combos and seeing them in action when your golem gladiator fights. What an awesome premise, haha, I love it. Also appreciate the extra stuff, like the Gambling Den and the Spy are very nice touches, you all did so much good work here. Congrats!
Wow this is a CRAZY amount of features for a jam game, impressive work!
The voice acting was also really funny lol. I also really enjoy watching the pit fights, it really feels like I'm betting on my guy after knowing how many drugs he took.
Great work!
fantastic game, loved all the different things you fit into one jam. I played so much Swords and Sandals growing up and this kinda reminded me of it in a way - I love this little loop of going to the arena, gaining gold/resource, improving the character, fighting, etc
shoutout to the sound effects as well :)
Really unique game and did not expect with this theme. Voice acting on point! Good job :)
Great game! Lots of systems that felt deep and a really fun style! Loved the music and the sounds (did you record your voices for them all?? lmao)
I think the biggest note I have for this is how overwhelming it is at first. I'm sure you're already aware, but the huge text walls at the start are hard to process and remember (particularly for my tiny brain) so if you guys decide to continue working on this, I would say first thing is making a smoother on boarding process. Reveal things as you need to use them and not all at once (like with the gambling den and spy). Tell me how to mix a potion, then show me the essence system when I go to brew my second potion. Don't tell me about the apothecary until I leave the brew scene. Walk me through the refining once I buy my first material. etc. etc.
Other than that, I would say maybe decluttering the ui a little to make it more readable (gambling den was hardest to read at a glance), but I know the style of the game leans into it a bit, though I still think it would be nice to have less to process all at once haha
But for real I loved it! Seeing the different effects I could give my golem was super fun, when I got the summon potion it was awesome to see all the little guys running around. Also, I should've thought more before feeding my golem a bomb lolol, good job!
Lets go gambling!
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! Really appreciate the actionable on-boarding advice. We recognized that the wall of text was not ideal but just ran out of time for something smoother. I think your ideas of drip feeding are great. Im glad you felt the systems were deep and yes, there was an enormous amount of mouth based foley lol
This game is so cool! It's such a big project for a short jam, I'm shocked everything works. Wish there was a 6/5 option for the audio! Sometimes when I play games and they are a bit unclear about what to do it feels terrible, with this game it very much feels like exploring and a process. Super interesting to see that vibe in a jam game. =D
