Really creative idea, I enjoyed it a lot!
I was stuck on that first spike edit level for a long time and had to look up the video because I didn't notice that PC in the corner, so I was trying to come up with some weird code solutions on the other PCs.
Not sure why spikes stopped damaging me without editing the spikes.other.health thing, after only changing the transform? I guess a bug. Actually, when I changed it to '.health +=' it also didn't heal me I think?
Also at the end of this level, when I was mashing clicks to kill the enemies, I finished the level and the menu button spawned right under my cursor, thus I accidentally went to the main menu and it reset my progress, so I ragequit lol.
Ignoring all that, it was still one of my favorite games this jam, great job!
Thanks for the feedback. I am really glad you liked it, even with all of those things that may have taken away from the experience.
Some of those bugs, I really don't know where they came from, but I will look into that, and about the menu thing, I wanted to add a level selection menu for exactly this reason, but I was short on time since I had something to do in the last day.
I am really glad you enjoyed it, and thanks so much for the feedback!
This looks great!
Good job. Really cool how you have to code in the game, well done getting something like that to work.
Good luck in the Jam
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Very good visuals!
I liked your game, it's beautiful, congratulations!
Thanks!
cool game, good visuals, but i could get past lvl 1 :c
Thanks, if you want, the trailer is basically a partial playthrough, you can watch it and realize how to pass the level, and it will also probably help you understand how it works.
Great visuals, but I couldn’t even clear level 1. From the comments I gathered that I need to go into “code editing mode” by accessing a computer screen. But I couldn’t figure out what screen that is. Is it that pink screen within the yellow box? If so, how do you interact with it? I went near the screen and tried left clicking (which emits a blue laser but doesn’t seem to do much after that). I think that thing could have been made more obvious. Also, a video trailer on your itch page would have helped players get a hang of the mechanics, at least for level 1.
That being said, awesome efforts for achieving the visuals and general vibe of the game. Also, the concept overall is quite commendable. Editing game code to progess, that’s quite unique!
Wow, I just realized I didn't even mention the controls anywhere, so thank you. I will put them in my notes too, but here it is. Yes, the yellow boxes with the Purple screen are the computers. To interact with them, you need to press E. When holding the left click, a lightsaber pops up, which, with the right code, can damage enemies.
Anyway, I really appreciate it because, for some reason, I thought the controls would just pop into the brains of the player. I would be really glad if you would try it again!
Really cool concept and unique control mechanics! The visuals are very pleasant, and it’s always a plus to see another UE5 project in the jam. The music and VFX really add a lot of life to the game — everything feels quite polished. It was definitely challenging, but in a rewarding way!
Thanks for the extra notes in the comments, they really helped me get into the game. I've left a rating for you! If you have a moment, I'd appreciate it if you could check out my project, 'Lucky Cat: God's Touch' — would love to hear your thoughts on it since we're both working in UE5!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it!
Of course, I will check it out in a moment!
Here are some notes before you play the game, since some things can be hard to understand without context:
1. When you go into the "code editing mode", there is a book icon where you can read a little about how to program in this game.
2. When you edit an event's code, you will replace its default functionality completely. Some computers may not look consistent to this with their default code due to jam time limits.
3. The trailer for the game is also a partial playthrough. If you get stuck, go ahead and watch the level you are stuck on.
controls:
E - interact with computers
Long LMB - Lightsaber attack mode
Y - restart level
Also, here are some credits for the game's making:
Book Icon - Pixabay
Almost all SFX - We Love Indies
Font - Jetbrains Mono
Everything else is made by our team.
Okay wow such a great idea and It's actually implemented nicely. There is a part tho where I feel like the code is not consistent. Basically I open the first computer and change transform.? to transform.x than I come to the second one and just open it without changing anything and it says onjump player.speed = 500, but after that I cannot jump anymore. Anyways a great idea, very fun and it reminds me of this game Quadrilateral Cowboy. Good job and I'd like to see this with more polish, levels and variations! :)
Thanks! the speed replacing the jump is actualy the intended way, and the transform.? was actualy inconsistent on purpose as a lazy way to help the player get the feel of the game in the first levels. Anyways really thank you for the feedback, I think I may continue it after the jam so this is very valueable!
It took me a minute and reading the comment where you explained to find the screen in the game I think it is kind of hidden if you don't know what you are looking for. It was actually more obvious on the second level because it was surrounded by spikes but I don't want to talk about how many times those spikes killed me. The gameplay is really fun once you figure it out! It's a nice puzzle platformer game.
Thanks! If I could I would try making it more obvious, so I will probably do it after the voting period is done, so thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I'm too stupid to understand how to fix the enemies sadly..
I like the thematic and the mood though !
Thanks, I don't know how clear it was, but if you open those code editing computers, there is a book icon with a basic explanation of the system. so if you like you can look at it and try again. Anyways, thanks for the feedback!
