The gameplay is very fun, it reminds me a lot of PICO-8 Celeste. The dash charge also serving as a double jump charge is pretty neat and makes it a bit more unique, and I like the butterflies mechanic a lot (you having to time it adds a challenge which I adore). Could have been even better with some sounds or music though, but the use of limitation is one of the best so far, especially the tree indicating the seasons passing by. Great game, congrats!!
Short and sweet Celeste like game! It's always satisfying to see when nature wakes up after winter. Some audio would be nice. Great hair physics though!
I really liked the art. It's a very well executed platformer that fits both the theme and the limitation nicely. I especially enjoyed the core controls, the booster mechanics, and the use of hair as an indicator. I did feel the lack of sound effects a bit. Also, even though there wasn't any pressure, I had a hard time feeling cozy due to the nature of the genre. Some music and sound effects might have helped with that feeling. I'd be very interested in playing a full version of this game.
Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback, it means a lot! I’ll definitely work on adding audio after the jam.
Such a gorgeous lil game, nice work!
Things I loved:
- Amazing use of minimalist gfx to deliver on effects; blue>green shift, the hair, butterflies.. really great stuff!
- Controls are toight, just the right ratio of float-to-precision
- Nailed the use the colour scheme!
Things I'd love to see:
- A bit of background music or ambience, though I actually really enjoyed the quiet contemplative vibe and don't think it needs lots of sound
- Little shifts between seasons (e.g. a pile of something that's gone the next loop, a critter that darts away on screen load, etc)
Thank you, these are all great suggestions. I'll make the updates after the event :)
The movement felt great, and the player controller was implemented really well. The jump, air jump, and dash all felt very responsive and tight, which made the whole thing easy to get into right away. Also, really good level design, which made good use of the full kit.
Visually, I loved the flowers and hair length representing the energy bar, which was a really clever design choice and it looked great visually too. The way the hair flowed with you added a lot of charm and made the character feel even more alive. I also really liked the visuals when restoring the greenery back to each room, that was such a satisfying touch and gave each section a nice sense of payoff, and looked really good as well.
Great job on the loop limitation, btw, it really did feel seamless getting right back into another run.
Glad you like it! I really appreciate your vivid and thoughtful review, it helps me a lot in improving the game.
I agree that audio would've made this 10x better. BUT I adore the graphics and concept. I got stuck after some sections though with the "launching pads" (petals?) where you have to use two to jump over some spikes to the left to get a crystal. Might just be my own stupidity though.
Yeah, that section is a bit tricky. I might need to adjust the launching pads' placement. Thanks for pointing it out! (They were actually meant to be butterflies haha)
Omg, I can see now that they are butterflies. Idk why they stuck with me as petals. I'm sorry T_T
No worries at all! Low-res pixel art leaves a lot of room for interpretation :D
The idea is cool and the movement is smooth, I liked it, it looks celeste like Rapunzel
Really appreciate it! I'm glad you liked it :)
Great fun short game. Add in some audio and it will be even better!
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely add audio after the jam :D
I love the visual of everything become all green when you grab the diamond and the effects of Rapunzels hair is so cute!
Thank you so much! I'm really happy you liked the hair effects, they’re my favorite part of the game :D
