- Great platformer, a little slippery but once you get the hang of it it's great! Awesome art as well
Who worked on your submission?
It was just me
How does your submission fit the theme?
You play as a bald dude called "The Thumb", you use your shiny head as your main weapon

Very juiced up and fun to play! I love the art and the references :D
The bonzi boss was somewhat tough cuz he kept trapping me in the corner until I realized I could dash upwards
Thank you for playing!
And agreed, there were some designs that could had been made better, I have a new version ready to upload for when the game jam is over which should fix some of the difficulties, such as better platform placement, and change on the air control, so hopefully that will make things like the bonzi boss easier
That was extremely good! the systems are very fun and inventive!
I love the vibe of this game! The styles fun, the sound effects are delicious, and the overall feel of the game is awesome!
It is easy to lose control of yourself though, mainly from not being able to land precisely after a dash or from being hit into a pit, but other than that the games really fun and satisfying! Also not an issue with the game per se, but Z and X being swapped from what I'm used to in other games messed with me constantly, but that's more of a me thing.
This is awesome though, you made something sick!
Thank you for playing the game and glad you enjoyed it!
I agree, the controls could had been done better, I have a new version ready for when the voting period is over that will hopefully make the controls feel better!
And yeah, the Z X thing always gets me due to playing so many different games that have swapped them around in the past haha
Looks pretty good, the intro with the thumb joke and Thumb waxing his head so hard he becomes a flaming skeleton made me laugh, but I didn't vibe with the controls.
While I loved the "oomph" the dash has when you hit enemies, a way to cancel the dash or better air control would be really nice, as most of my deaths were from dashing into an enemy and immediately falling into a nearby pit, or bouncing off an enemy that takes more than one hit and dropping into a pit behind me.
Pretty fun platformer! I enjoyed how chunky/powerful the hits feel. The art is super charming, loved the enemy designs throughout and the simple boss fights. Not sure about the shining mechanic, I ended up just jumping in pits over and over for the pity buffs. But it is also very funny and on-theme, so it gets a pass from me
Thank you and I'm glad you liked it!
yeah the shining mechanic was a bit of a gamble, hence the addition of the pity system to make it easier and easier for those that weren't a fan of it, would I had gotten more time I probably would had added an option to start with a shine pity value in exchange of rank penalty, but I'm glad that people are seeing past its flaws!
Easily one of the best platformers of the jam! Really solid movement mechanics and level design - I'm a sucker for levels with sneaky little speedrun cheats and this game had them in spades.
The head waxing was the only thing I really disliked about the game. Mashing hurts my hands after a while, and this game started HURTING by the third level. I'd also frequently take my hands off the arrow keys just to mash fast enough for a boss phase or start of a room, then fumble my controls (I'm a Z to jump goober so my muscle memory played a lot into that lol) and die trying to be quick.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah I was really sold on the speed head polishing mechanic and couldn't think of many systems that would make it any easier haha, other than of course just holding the button but felt like it'd be funnier this way, might come up with a solution after the jam because yeah my intention is NOT to break people's hands just trying to play the game lol
Pretty fun and creative. I loved the shining mechanic and appreciate the fact that it becomes easier if you suck.
I think this game needed a tutorial or simple level to teach you how movement works. The mechanics are kinda opaque, I didn't realize you could dash upwards at the start and it wasn't clear what level of shine I needed to be to defeat enemies. Sometimes I need 2, sometimes 3, it's not really clear to me why I sometimes bounce off enemies instead of go through them. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty good though!
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah there was a little bit more background logic to the dashes and didn't have a straight forward way to explain them other than through experience, but yeah maybe a longer tutorial would had been ideal, or better introduction throughout the levels
To put it brief, dashes will deal damage as long as you are at level 2 or higher (shiny head), it's just that some enemies require more than 1 hit (such as the big dudes), or may have a vulnerable state (such as the trash cans)
Thank you for your feedback!
i understand why you didnt have time to let me drive the car but i got really excited for a moment cause i thought there was gonna be a whole other game in here.
very good though, love the animations. the controls are moderately frustrating, mostly in not being able to stop early, and in how enemies can just stunlock you.
well done!
Ah yes, the car was more of a gag, the thought did cross my mind about making a Battletoads speed tunnel themed section but their difficulty would probably make a lot of people unhappy haha
As for the dashing, it can be cancelled early with jumps!
And since the enemy locking was a bug, the judges allowed me to make a bug fix for it, so hopefully that should be sorted now!
Thank you for playing!
Two notes for if you want to make a patch. You can get stun locked between 2 enemies mainly on the 2nd stage of level 2 if you dash and land in the middle o f them leading to a soft lock and restart needed. Also you can get stun locked by the final boss on the side of the screen if you aren't careful which can kind of be annoying.
Ah thank you, I have updated with a fix for the soft locks (Slight time immunity after collisions), this should fix the soft lock scenario and also protect the player from consecutive hits, such as the boss stun lock!
As for the final boss, there is only one, so luckily don't have to worry about an alternative boss mechanic, thank you for pointing these out!
I just noticed that in the latest version of the Windows version I forgot to re-enable an effect that was present for the windows version only: The "solitaire card effect" that was present in the final stage, when I did the recent fix I used the "HTML5" version for that room which disables the effect as it doesn't work for HTML5, would it be okay to for me to make an update to enable that "card effect" on the final stage for the windows version during the rating period or should I wait after the game jam is over?
I have a new build (not uploaded yet) with some difficulty adjustments, such as:
- There was a bug on the HTML5 where players could select "Continue" skipping the intro
- Changed gravity for better air control
- Repositioned some enemies a bit for hopefully better level design
- Changed the final boss vulnerable sprite for better indication
- Added the option to hold up the button to polish the head
- Extended some of the platforms to make certain sections less frustrating
I want to make these changes for both the HTML5 and Windows builds, should I wait until the voting period is over or is it okay to make the changes during the voting period?
I love this concept and use of the theme but oh my god can this get frustrating, it's a cool movement system but I cannot get the directional dashes to feel consistent or intuitive at all, it feels like a complete crapshoot as to which direction I'm gonna fly in. I have no idea if there's something I'm missing but it's made the third area a nightmare to get through
Anyway all that aside really cool art and music and baldness mechanic, great way to implement the skeleton
Also the pause screen says "contiune" instead of "continue" I figure you might want to know that lmao
Ah yes, for the dashing it did not occur to me to make a tutorial or some sort of guide in regards to the directions, to put it simply:
- Each level of shine changes how your dashes work
- you can always dash in all 4 directions with the arrow keys/joystick
- Shine Level 1 and 2 will take gravity into consideration
- Shine Level 3 and 4 will ignore gravity, going straight onward
As for the "contiune", it was intentional! There was some Joel stream with bootleg stuff (cannot remember the context in detail) and the continue was misspelled, for some reason that has been living in my mind rent free haha
