Amazing work for such a short time! I loved the game's atmosphere. Excellent work! I definitely give it a 5/5 rating.

The concept of combining a slot machine with turn-based combat is awesome! The mechanics are super addictive, and the art style and sound effects match perfectly. It would be great if we could see what levels or enemies are coming up next, so we can make more informed strategic choices in between. Great game!

What an interesting combination! Aside from the frustrating fact that everything I can do depends on gambling, the atmosphere, upgrades, and gameplay are all of good quality.

Developer

Thank you!

The gambling-side is supposed to be mitigated thanks to devil's deals, where upgrading your machine slot can reduce the randomness of the gameplay. Maybe it is not clear enough!

Really enjoyed this. It did get a bit repetetive at level 20+ (I stopped at 22) but that could be easily improved with more time. A couple of times I got stuck when both the wizard and my character had lots of hearts and shields so we just kept healing & blocking each other and nobody won or lost, so it would be nice to have a limit to the rolls or some way to retreat so that I can try a different enemy. But it all worked really well.

Developer

Thanks for this nice and constructive feedback!

I was afraid this kind of blocked scenario could happen, but I didn't expect it to happen before level 40; and I honestly didn't think any players would reach this level so I didn't try to find a solution ^^'
A limit on the rolls is indeed a good idea, maybe combining with a fatigue system where everyone looses HPs after X turns...

Who would have thought that balancing a slot machine would be difficult? x')

Very cool game! I didn't expect that combining a slot machine with roguelite elements would be this good.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed my game :)

This implementation of a slot machine with a dungeon crawler is pretty cool. It clearly brings to mind "Slots in Daggers," which was quite successful. I think there's a lot of room to innovate in this area of games that resemble slot machines.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! I didn't know "Slots in Daggers" before this jam, I'll definitively try it :D

So I played a few turns and it just seemed to be a slot machine. reading the description it sounds like there should be a lot more am I missing controls or just do I need to go further? In any case your graphics are fantastic. I'm definitely interested in giving another try if there is more depth that I'm missing.

Developer

The very first fight is inded just a slot machine. But when you win (you are supposed to win the first fight, unless you are very very unlucky!), you can perform some deals with the devil to upgrade your machine: there is some bonus items for the current run only, or permanent buffs for all future runs :)
Thanks for your nice feedback about graphics, I spent a lot of time on them so it means a lot for me <3

Submitted(+1)

ah good to know. maybe shorten the first fight a tiny bit. I was frustrated thinking I was missing something which is why I stopped sooner than I should have. I'll come back to it.

Developer

My first plan was to cheat with RNG so that the first two fights would unfold exactly as I wanted. But I didn't have enough time to setup that ^^'

Awesome game! really liked how diverse the eneies are and how combat affects permanently the slots. I can play this for hours!!

Developer

Thank you very much for this nice feedback <3

What a polished entry. I didn’t know a slot machine game would be so addictive. I’ve seen many posts about Slots and Daggers, and this game reminds me of the mechanics there (haven’t tried slots and daggers before though.)

I Played this on Wavedash, and the achievements are a nice touch. I love that the game saves my progress, because I had to pause at wave 12. The risk/reward options from the devil helps make the game interesting. Good job!

Thank you for your nice feedback!

I didn't know "Slots and Daggers", now I want to play this game... :'D
Thanks for sharing!

I think I need to give it a try to, but I honestly thought this was inspired by it, haha. (Unfair to compare when I haven’t played it.) Anyway, your slot machine game is great

Also, the music in your game is bangers! It really fits with the game’s art style. Retro pixel.

Very interesting entry. Choosing a roguelite for a game jam is a commendable challenge. I would had like to have a little more agency earlier on since I was just pressing spin until I was able to choose some upgrades, then it’s nice to be able to choose how much to bet but I didn’t really see any disadvantage of choosing to always bet the maximum. One thing I would like to mention, there is some issue with the audio mixing. The music sounds very muted and the sound effects too loud and clipped. There are so many free sound libraries out there :)

Developer

Thanks for your constructive feedback!

The main risk with choosing to always bet the maximum is that you loose more HP for each spin. At first bet costs were 1HP / 3HP / 5HP but after some playtests it was too harsh, so I reduced them to 1/2/3... maybe it is not enough now ^^'
Another risk to take into account: curses. Enemis add some curses to your machine, so if you bet the maximum you have more chance to activate the curses.

About the audio, I might have hearing problems... 'cause I especially reduce the volume of the music so that I am able to hear the sound effects x')  Sorry for that!

Great gameplay, i like the main mechanic and the possibility there are cons.

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the game :)

Amazing game with a lot of replayability, ended up completely losing track of time while I unlocked new chars and features. The only fault I could even find is that the machine is slightly too loud when compared to the music, and even that's just personal preference. Otherwise perfect! Really, really well done!

On a side note I hope both the dark mage and skeleton suffer for their sins against my slots. Perhaps an itch they cant find the source of... or perpetually wet socks... take your pick.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for you nice feedback! Sorry for the audio, I never know how to balance volume between music and sound effects ^^'

Perpetually wet socks is an horrible curse, but they definitively deserve it...
