cute art style, cute gameplay, cute audio, cute everything! CUTE GAME!
This is a fun puzzle platformer! I've got a lot of feedback on the controls, but that's not a criticism of the game in any way! :)
In general, I had a lot of trouble with the controls - I felt very awkward and uncoordinated when trying to press Z to shoot a bubble, and then press space with my thumb to jump up onto it. This was compounded by the fact that X reset your position (but not the level itself), so I found myself waiting around a lot when muscle memory from UFO 50 kicked in, I pressed X to jump, and then had to sit around waiting for my bubble to pop. In general, it would have been a great quality of life improvement if you could shoot another bubble to destroy the one that was already there, as I often found myself waiting on mispositioned bubbled.
Those are easily fixable nitpicks though - The core of the game was fun! Well done :)
I got stuck in the moving x box level. Overall, it is fun and I love the bubble mechanic.
First impressions: I always enjoy a puzzle platformer and this one is charming. I think the player needs to be taught how to jump before being taught how to make a bubble. I also think you can afford to teach just one new thing per level and not double up on them (for example, a level to teach jumping, a level to teach bubble after it). Your level design shined through regardless - a lot of clever puzzles that I enjoyed figuring out. I do enjoy learning by playing and I think the most satisfying thing in this game is when you start to get a feel for how far your bubble travels out before going up. The least satisfying thing is that level with all the pits that you just have to start over on, that is evil lol.
I really liked this! the bubble mechanic was really cool and challenging.
That last level was tough but all in a good way.
If you decide to work on this game after the jam, i think a tongue mechanic would be cool, this is a great start to something that could be really really cool for a full project!!
I like the game, my one note that's hardly anything is the beginning level where it showcases the controls I think space should be listed or nothing should be. It might just be me but I assume a basic control layout if nothing is stated. But the initial impression was that the frog couldn't jump at all to me. Now after I realized my silliness it was all good. But that did catch me by a second because I just didn't think the player was meant to jump off the in game controls shown.
i forgot to indicate it in the game, but i did it in the description, sorry
