Very Fun Time! No complaints except for those pesky camo bugs! >:)

A solid tower defence with nice animations and audio! And cool to see a UE game in the jam, as always! Thanks for jamming with us again :)

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! We've got to stay true to our game dev roots in UE sometimes <3 Thank you for hosting another great jam. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Another absolute banger of an entry from Maud and Frits!! Tower Defence games are my kryptonite. I'm literally ignoring customers' messages to me to play your game more. The art style is fantastic, really well chosen music and sfx, I didn't encounter any ~gaming~ bugs (hehehe). Just a really incredible entry. Well done guys and thanks for jamming with us again!

Developer

Hihi thank you so much! Your comment made our day. I specifically programmed Frits' algorithms to efficiently work out any juicy bugs that I'm too scared to exterminate myself, physically as well as digitally. Thank you for hosting another great jam!

This is soo coool. I do wish there was a speed up feature but other than that 10 bugs/10

Developer

Thank you for playing! We thought about a speed up feature a bit too late in the development, so it'll be released right after voting is over. Really appreciate the feedback!

oh woah love the pixel art...am also very jealous of the pixel art lol i'm learning and it's hard! the music and sfx were also rly good too and game is executed well.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, it makes me really happy you say that! I've been practicing pixel art in my spare time to become faster and more coherent with it in general. These game jams are a big help and show more progress every single time. These are some sources I used:

Creating a top-down tileset: https://www.sandromaglione.com/articles/how-to-create-a-pixel-art-tileset-comple...
Creating a color palette: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUdMb8Bb2II

I used Aseprite for all of the art, which is honestly a wonderful investment if you want to do more pixel art. There are of course still a lot of things I'd love to improve, such as how I'm still using both 16x16 and 32x32 together, and we scale the assets in the engine afterwards on top of that as well.

ahh you're the best ty!!

Once I unlocked the first mutation (Sunny), in the following runs I could no longer place anything - not even the very first 25-seed flower. At first I thought maybe it would only affect one run so I waited to lose, unlocked another mutation (the bottom right one) and start another run. But I still couldn't place anything. I had 75 seeds at the start ;-;

Still, I got the general concept. A very solid tower-defense game if I didn't encounter the bug (no pun intended). I liked that you literally start stronger so that you could use your new shiny flower earlier~

Developer

Thank you for playing! If a run resets while holding a flower a small bug happens where you are unable to place a new one. This will be fixed in the patch after voting.

Thank you for playing! Unreal Engine is the engine Frits & I are most comfortable with using because of our study. We had to use an older version of the engine from a couple of years ago that still supports web builds haha. It's always interesting to try and figure out ways to make 2D look good in a 3D engine without performance issues.

We really appreciate your feedback. We'd love to look into some extra balancing and polish for after the voting, so this is great!

Great game! I like the artstyle and I had a lot of fun playing, really impressive for 48 hours!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing the game! We're glad you had fun :)

Submitted(+2)

That's quite a lot of content for 48h !
I tend to stay away from TD games for short jams as you need a lot of variety both in term of towers and ennemies for it to be interesting... And honestly you hit the sweet spot with this one !

My only little problem is I didn't get to try the last 2 towers.  At some point my setup was efficient enough that it could sustain any enemy wave (I managed to go up to wave 25+) without dying so I couldn't go back and unlock the last towers.

Apart from that it's kinda flawless ! the art is lovely, the sound effects are on point and the game is pretty fun.
Great job :)

Thank you for playing! If you would like to try to last two towers, if you are in full screen you can press TAB to open the pause menu and head back to the greenhouse (Though all progress is now reset unless you have kept the tab open until now). For the update after voting we added a simple pause button on the UI so it is a bit more clear you actually have that option. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

Y'all killed it with this one. First off, the title sent me - "ploonts" as a name is perfection in and of itself. The style suited the gameplay and theme really well. I played this for a while! The roguelike mechanics tying the theme into the game was clever and effective! I'm echoing my gamedev partner BenignChaos, but because this has the passivity of td games, it does lend to a speed-up function, if only for rounds you've already done.  Awesome work!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Speed up button is on the way right after the voting deadline ๐Ÿซก

I loved this! The dragonflies were diabolical. I thought I was missing something after my first run until I saw the mutations count go up. When I saw that, I was immediately invested. I want to make sure I have time to try all of the jam submissions, but I know I'll be coming back to this one for a longer session. My only major feedback would have been a speed up function, but I see that you already thought of that! Great game!

Thank you for playing! We are glad you enjoyed it :D

Makes me want to play Crystal Defenders

Awww thanks!

I really don't like TD games, but roguelike progression always grabs my attention.  Good gameplay and npc/tower   flower variety. Sadly after ~12 runs I lost motivation to unlock rest of the flowers, since game always end at lvl 10. Maybe a final boss wave would make me a bit more happier.
Anyways, I enjoyed Ploonts, great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game and for the great feedback!

At wave 10 the camubugs spawn which can only be killed by stray AOE damage or the flower tower that can see camouflage. The game is an endless game and the waves get stronger at lvl 25 and 50, though it has not been balanced for more than 15 minutes of gameplay since we didn't expect players to stick around for longer haha. Thank you for hanging around for more than 10 runs <3

Adding bosses every couple of waves is definitely something we'd love to do, so maybe if we have time we will after the jam!

This is really impressive for the amount of time and one of my favorite games this jam.

Great execution, art and animation work. I just wish getting back into the game was a bit faster.

Developer

Thank you for playing! We've got a speed up button ready once the jam is over, hopefully that will solve some of the issues regarding pacing.

Submitted(+2)

Very well made game, got a little too invested in it for my own sake.

The gameplay is very engaging, the plant unlocks got me hooked pretty fast, it has a very impressive amount of content for a jam game. My main criticism would be the pacing, because this game is reeealy slow, especially at the beginning. It takes a lot of time to complete a run and to unlock everything it takes literal hours. I only got to unlocking the money generating plant and the eye plant thingy even after more than an hour playing. Also speedup wave button would be a godsend.

The art is very pretty, though the inconsistent pixel sizes can look a bit jarring at times. The music's nice and fitting, though can get repetitive (or I just played for too long lol).

Overall very solid entry, I like it a lot. Congrats!

Thank you for playing! We really appreciate the feedback!

Extremely polished, I love the art, everything feels good to interact with.

I think designing a game where losing is part of the loop is doable but it doesn't feel like it fits this kind of game. Losing to an enemy that you can't interact with yet is inevitable, and replaying the first few rounds feels slow. A speed up option would help quite a bit but I think just giving the upgraded flowers from the start would have been easier, maybe turning them all into upgrades to fit the evolution theme. I still played for a while and enjoyed it a lot, great game.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Both the speed up option as well as just better balancing were definitely on the table, just not enough time to implement it all. Our first idea was to be able to combine the plants while playing to create the better/cooler plants to keep growing and evolving, but the scope was too big unfortunately. Great feedback!

Submitted(+2)

Im not much of a tower defence player but i can still see the quality work put into it. My only critisism is that not being able to plant or upgrade new followers for the first 3 rounds seems redundent. It has the player watching more then playing. I don't know if thats a common thing in tower defence games but it felt off to me.

If you are interested in expanding the game, it might be a cool idea to add a shovel or item that allows players to move planted flowers before a wave. I found its easy to click a little off screen or behind the ui and accidently plant a flower out of range.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Early game definitely needed some tweaking, but with the time that we had this seemed like the best solution for the scope we had while still trying to get that evolution feeling. If we were to continue working on this balancing the early game and adding to the late game are definitely first priority.

Really fun tower defence game with nice art and music!

Thank you!

Great game, I see caterpillars are enemy in both of our games xD

Developer

Thanks! Those pesky catterpillars at it again, eating all our plants ๐Ÿ˜”

I love a good TD game! This one is pretty good! I will say having to restart whenever you return to the greenhouse to get upgrades kinda takes away from the overall experience though

Thank you for playing the game!
