This was a good game. Would be nice if it had WASD, but it's still good. Haven't quite finished it though. I really like the body hitboxes from the old deaths. It's nice to see a way for people who are worse at the game to have a better time.

Love the art style and atmosphere

Really well done! Loved the art style, and the level design felt really balanced. One thing I really liked is that the hole with the spikes seems impossible, and you discover on your own the mechanics of being able to use your old corpse as a platform. That was super cool and I loved that aspect. I think the game would have been slightly easier if you needed less time to charge jumps. Still super cool. Awesome job!

I did a first impressions video. I thought your game looked very nicely stylized. Had fun :-)

Thank you very much for playing and making the video, it made my day :D
Makes me want to go back and improve a bunch of things!

Haha :D No problem. I think you made a gem with this one.

If I'm being honest with you, I think the thing you need to improve is the pacing. I need to discover new things at a faster rate. Probably making your game shorter for a game jam helps. I think you should aim for a 5 minute experience. If I give every game 5 minutes I will have spent 10 hours just playing games (excluding overhead of switching and reviewing)

But of course this was created in 72 hours so that's all normal. :-) Glad you enjoyed the video!

i feel the controls need a lot of work as they felt very stiff to me. nice job on the visuals though!

I really liked this game :D. The atmosphere and lighting was very nice and well done I liked the minimalistic pixel art, it made it look polished. I liked the concept that you play as different cave explorers and their death helps you, that's a very cool concept.

It was tricky to understand the mechanic at first but after a bit I understood what I was doing and after that it was smooth sailing. I will say the jump charging does feel slow so when you die and restart it kinda feels bad to walk all the way because the charging jump is kinda slow, but that's just a personal preference.

Overall this is really cool and I enjoyed this game, so good job :D

Thanks for the kind words and thank you for playing!

You are definitely right regarding the movement and the annoying run backs. I wanted the jump to be slow, to force the player to be very deliberate with their jumps and build some tension. But after dying far into the game, I also get the urge to just speedrun.
I also made a mistake with the level design, and had a few too many horizontal sections. If the game was more vertical, the player could learn where it would be safe to fall (as well as create safe platforms using the corpse mechanic), and then very quickly get back to where they were when they died last.

Oh well, lessons learned!

The use of darkness and lighting was really well done, it created a strong atmosphere. I struggled a lot with the jumping sections though, since I’m not very good at this type of gameplay. Still, it was a nice experience overall, good game and well done.

Love the art! Never had this much fun stepping on my own corpse!

Pretty cool idea, would love to see this as a fully flushed out game some day.
