Description
Stylistically I'm working on developing something that blends something like Paradise Lost, JRR Tolkien, Baroque mythological music, some modern sensibilities about epic music.

I composed some epic poetry for this jam. I basically only managed to get a couple evenings to work on it, though I did a lot of brainstorming and sifting through ideas.

I started off with this sort of drone-like beginning, and then shifted into a style that is a bit more Baroque. The Baroque era was full of mythological reproduction, so that's what I had in mind in terms of getting a start on the project. The feedback I get will help me determine whether to pursue this further. I'd say I was inspired by Lully in particular for the last bit.

I wanted to use a particular progression from Rachmaninoff (which he borrowed from Borodin), but that might come later, and I'll see if I can actually blend that with the Baroque style.

Lyrics:

Forged in the heart of the mountain

Forged with the FIRE of the Earth...

A weapon he made to bring righteousness

Back to the kingdom of his kin.

The hammer rang against the anvil,

As the furnace sweltered hot

As sweat was dripping from his eyebrows,

A form began to show itself.

At first it was like shapeless iron,

but slowly it became a blade.

It was harder than a diamond,

stronger than any steel.

An axe head of enchanted metal,

a gift from the fiery gods of old.

From the chain of adamantine,

a single link would suffice.

Each day, it changed but a hair's width,

Each day a battle of the will.

For years he hammered at the ingot,

Until it was finally' complete.

----Current recording ends here----

The final hour had arrived,

and he struck the final blow.

As the last blow rang out clearly,

the blacksmith fell down to the floor.

The fire blazed even hotter,

and the room began to quake.

Rocks were falling from the ceiling,

as the floor began to shake.

He crawled slowly towards the entrance,

as boulders landed all around.

A boulder landed on his ankle,

and the entrance collapsed shut.

Now that he knew that he was dying,

he held his creation to his heart.

He thought he gave all there was to give,

but now he knew otherwise.

There was only but one handle,

of elk bone for this axe,

In the chaos it had shattered,

into pieces on the floor.

As he clutched his pristine axe head,

he cut his shin off at the knee!

And it only took a single blow,

and left a great dent in the floor!

Now he gave his missing shin bone,

to make this axe come to life!

As he held the axe head to his shin bone,

it hummed with magic energy!

He swiftly struck at the earthen floor,

and the exit blasted open!

Slag spewed out from the furnace,

and some landed near his leg.

---End of Poetry---

I know how the rest of the story goes... but I need to put it into poetry!

This is really cool, I wasn’t expecting a poem in a track, which makes it feel quite unique. I also saw in the comments that it’s your own voice, and I really like it. It has a nice deep quality and I love the layered vocals, with the different lines and harmonies working really well together. I really like the melody, and the epic warrior-like tone in the background fits everything really well. It all comes together really nicely :)

Finally some lyrics in a KaleOverlord submission 😉

Lyrics outline the story well! I'm really bad at writing actual poetry and just write simplistic stuff whenever I write any lyrics so can't really  do a professional review, but to me they were great and looking forward to more.

The echoing repeat of the vocals in the background in the start was really cool, not sure if you just used a delay or actually recorded new takes but added a lot to the feel anyway.

The folk music vibe is great with a really solid and catchy melody that fits the theme nicely, you even got the classic folk melody trope on "It was harder than a diamond, stronger than any steel." that I'm always happy to hear on a song 😄

Good work!

It looks like the dwarves have just created the weapon that will destroy the evil of this land :P Great work

Insane work, a very rare submission that focuses on vocals and Poems. I do get the impression of watching 'The Lord of The Rings" when listening to it.
I would like to ask tho, is that your own vocals? Wish I had that deep of a voice timbre so I could play around on making these types of songs without having to rely on effects. Would love to hear the final results tho

yoooooo this is sick dude! Love the vibes of this submission! Poetry is super cool, and the melody came through nice and clear as well, wish I could've heard the full poem in song form haha, very well done, super kick-ass song. Though if I may- what the HECK is that plain white text my goat ;[]; hecks no that is NOT the vibe.

good stuff though xd

Really brave submission being Lyrically focused but I think it works really well for the theme. The composition fits the poem perfectly, this is great work as always.

I thought this was a really interesting submission Kale! First off, I really appreciate that poetry was the focus for the melody, I think it's a unqiue way to interpret the theme and I think it had a lot of impact because of it. I also like the harmonies that come in toward then end. I think it could have had more musical impact in places but the effect is still strong throughout as I was getting strong LOTR vibes. Great to see more vocal submissions!

The lyrics sound rather strange to me, but that's probably just because I like Instrumental Music more than Music With Lyrics... Hearing the melody though? I really like the vibe it gave out.
