Really nice demo. Loved the mechanics of manual reload, shotgun cocking and different shell types.

I want to love the aesthetics as well, but they are a bit too... jarring. Text is hard to read, and brick lines keep flickering in the distance, which is very straining on the eyes, especially when everything is very bright and vivid. The same applies to wireframe enemies. I feel like you're trying to simulate a very low resolution, but it's not very pleasant on a large monitor.

I managed to run out of shells of some type, and I don't know if you can actually check how many shells you have in your pocket, or what shell you're readying to load.

I would also suggest "mouse wheel up" instead of "mouse wheel one notch down" for checking for loaded shell, because it kinda blends in with the reload motion.

Otherwise - it's a very cool and neat demo and a very interesting concept, please keep it up!

You can check your pockets by using the freelook key and looking down, it's never explained in the game though. I'll be increasing the resolution from now on and tweaking the textures to reduce noise, thanks a lot for the feedback!

receiver heads, rise up....

  • I enjoy the gimmick greatly as a shotgun enjoyer in pretty much any game
  • Graphics effects and overall aesthetic are pretty neat, text is extremely hard to read though
  • I had fun just testing out the different shells
  • hitting the drones is a real bitch since they move in such erratic patterns, i feel like if they either had some inertia or moved in a more predictable arc they would be more fun to shoot at
  • The controls on the shotgun are a little bit unresponsive if you are trying to quickly do multiple things i felt like. Could be skill issue but it felt like there was a period inbetween loading/cycling the gun that my inputs werent doing what i was expecting
  • loading the shotgun feels imo a little sluggish
  • checking the chamber is a goated feature

Overall good stuff excited to see where this goes. Keep up the good work

I like that you have to do everything manually, it feels more satisfying this way. Maybe it's just me but I don't know if the scroll wheel is the best for the job, it feels like a lighter motion, I've played games where you have to hold down a key to do something similar and that felt more satisfying. I guess here you would need to press 2 keys so it would be more awkward but still maybe something worth experimenting with.

Had some issues with the browser, it didn't let me use my mouse the first time I loaded the game and it had a bit of stuttering at times. I was using chrome

Pretty cool so far, would like to see how it plays when you're under fire and you don't have all the time in the world to fiddle with your gun

I like the gimmick. Though the browser-based option is a little wonky for me, as it doesn't cover the full screen, but the usual ctrl+scroll down option messes up the game, then I exit, but cannot return control as it used to be. I think the texts are also harder to read, because my viewing surface is not the intended size.

But back to the game. I like the shotgun gimmick. Little disorienting, because I've only shot with a double-barrel before (maybe a future update, eh?), but works great. Can't wait to try to operate it under stress.

I might add a break-action shotgun to teach chamber loading (since it's the only way of loading those) and I'll probably have to use a higher resolution, readability is a big issue and if I plan to have long distance shootouts it will need to be improved. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

very cool reloading with the scroll wheel feels very powerful, and I like the music , and I like the art style though I feel the walls should be a slightly darker blue for more contrast.

even though its not realistic I think it would be cool if the different ammo types had distinct loading and shooting sounds

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I've got a wheezing sound effect planned for the slug cartridge, for the other two maybe slightly altered hitsounds? I'll see what I can do to differentiate them via audio cues.

I tried it out and I liked it.

The fonts are hard to read with the "pixelated-render" effect. I think the resolution makes the whole game kind of hard to read but I got used to it after a little while anyway.
Reloading and moving at the same time is kinda tricky because I kept having to hit "R" which keeps me from strafing while moving. I think I would rather use spacebar to load a shell into the magazine.

It would be cool if you could reload the shotgun while keeping it shouldered.

I really liked the way you animated the reloads, attention to details like throwing a shell right in the chamber if the pump is pulled back, the chamber check. Having to scroll down twice to really send the pump back feels pretty realistic as well. This game feels the same way using a shotgun for the first time does, which is really cool

Thanks for the playthrough! And sorry for the terrible UX and lack of proper tutorials :-(
