my exceptionally exceptional run of this exceptional game. looking forward for ultra mode.
edit: the only "negative" since its not really a negative, is that it would be very cool with a faster paced mode without placing the tetris piece. this goes against the entire design so i didnt consider it when rating.
Very cool submission! i think it runs into the issue some other tetris likes do, where it doesn't feel particularly engaging to place tetris pieces freely in the space, and i think it slows down gameplay a lot. But this kind of game is what jams are all about, i genuinely think you've tapped something unique here, and it was a very fun play c:
It's peak. The arranges are pretty cute. Satisfying combination of mechanics.
You know, I was supposed to play more jam games today, but with games like yours, I can't play other games, I spent probably more than 1 hour, I don't remember, just playing yours. I don't like praising too much people, but this is my jam winner, and I hope this turns into something more complete later on, because I would honestly buy it.
It was super fun, the art was really good, but also very polished to detail, the gameplay was incredibly well done, and the two phases work together incredibly well, I can't describe it with words honestly, you made something very creative and that just works really well, the gameplay was amazing as well, the bullet firing, the effects, sounds, feedback, the enemies were really well done and balanced, there was not a single unfair moment, it felt like a full polished game, the cirno theme was also very well done for the game's mood. Honestly, I just want to play more, but it has no more content. The dash mechanic was also very convenient and fits really well with how the enemies shoot and the level design.
These are things I would add or change if you plan to develop it further:
- The tetris pieces are super fun to work around, like a puzzle and designing levels at the same time, I think there is a a lot of potential here, different types of blocks, not just fruits, that could work as level elements.
- Maybe rerolling tetris pieces could be nice.
- Maybe adding bosses after certain waves or different zones / stages.
Congrats, honestly, my favourite jam entry.
My score: 69210
Lots of fun! Hoping the post-jam version will have an ending; I did get to max level in every stat once I figured out that the winning strategy was to focus on keeping the center clear, but I don't find single-entry scoreboards very motivating.
Incredible blend of genres !
This was completeley unexpected but in the best way possible :o
from the screens i assumed you’d have to manage tetris falling blocks while dodging and shooting and thought “this is gonna be brutally difficult” thankfully i was sooo wrong.
The turn based tetris block placing phase is an absolutely genius spin on the genre i.m.o and i absolutely dig that this sorta integrates level building into the gameplay in a way, and even better is the fact that you don’t just stick to classic tetris rules by having any line in any direction making the blocks disappear, and the upgrades frozen inside some blocks that get collected upon said line’s dissapearance, insert absolute cinema meme but for gameplay design just awesome i can’t say more.
great entry, well done ^^
Lovely game! After playing for a long time, I got the following errors:
at which point my bullets no longer interacted with the environment or enemies and I had to suicide to end the game.
Gameplay wise, it sorely needed some timer or timer related bonus during the danmaku part, especially since you can stall forever by diving. In practice, most players are going to want to kill things as fast as possible anyway to keep the game progressing, so a timer would just ensure that they play this way and not super carefully. This aside, it's pretty much perfect? Great job!
Edit: after playing again, this is the score I got. I feel like the game could really really use some more teeth; Wakasagihime is way too overpowered and the game basically can't do anything UNLESS you get greedy with the pieces and end up not able to place anything. It's still really fun but it ends up taking too long.
I reached Stage 14, scored 44780 points.
The game is super fun! It looks great, music is great, the tetris part is a very cool implementation of the theme and the most important the combat part looks clean and controls and feels great. The different enemies propose a different threat (very cool than some pass through blocks and others don't) and I have fun using the diving ability. The difficulty and its progression between stages is also perfect.
There could be a "click" sound when selecting a tetromino.
Thanks a sharing!
This was so good. I tried it at first and didn’t really get it because I hadn’t read the description, but when I came back to it later and tried again, the Tetris mechanic finally clicked, and from there I was hooked. Absolute banger of a game with great visuals and polish.
Oiiiiii, what did I just play? I feel like reviewing every game is like - oh, nice graphics, and sound, and polish and loop (and it's true, a lot of them bring a lot to the table). This one has some unique DNA and I think you should pursue the idea a bit further with more content and polish, maybe look into more than just a JAM vertical slice.
It took me a bit to get it, mainly because I didn't read game's description, I just hit play. But this is not a tutorial fail but rather a strong point, as you 'discover' it.
Concept wise, this is the game for me. GG!
Very nice game. Didn't get it at first, though it was about destroying the blocks with bullets. Nice job
Ended up playing this one for quite a bit! Awesome use of theme!
Before I knew it, I had been playing for over an hour. It's a remarkably polished game that keeps pulling you back for another run.
I love the mix of the two genres that went so well! Great game:)
Close to a perfect game! Really loved the combo of puzzle + bullet hell and that blended with the theme really well! Great job!
Really fun idea, not a combo you'd expect but it really works., addictive!
Brilliantly executed idea, was very addicting and got me playing for a full hour
This is such an excellent balance of cozy and intense haha. Very well done!
Fun! Do you win if you max out all stats?
This one is gonna be hard to beat for me, such a unique idea. Very well designed and the polish is great too. All the mechanics just works so well with one another. Sound design, controls and game feel are all great too.
