One of my favorite games style and music-wise for this jam! It felt really polished too: UI, backgrounds, sprites, cheesy dialogues, it's all in there.

Was hard to control the dash because of my expectation that I'll dash in the direction I'm moving now; on the other hand, in can give you more control when used smartly, so maybe it's just a skill issue.

The game wasn't hard at first because of the stage size and the limited bullet distance of the enemies, but got progressively harder later. The patterns and the enemies had enough variety and were fun to explore.

Thanks a lot!

P.S.: Oh, and I forgot to praise the progression!

Developer

Oh man, thank you so much! This comment made my day, truly. I'm so glad you had fun testing it out. And about the dash towards cursor... that was my initial thought too, that it would be more control. That's how I have my dash mapped when I play Hades/Hades II, but I don't think it translated here. Mainly because the reticle is in a fixed position and is not controlled by the mouse at all. So the skill issue is my issue, not yours haha. I did most of my playtesting with a gamepad, unfortunately.

Thank you so much for playing!!

Nice fun game, had good time playing it and like the art style  alot. Soundtrack very nice too. Good balance of diffeculty , could be challaging but didnt feel unfair. Great work on the game, it was good time to play it

Thank you for playing! <3

Nice game, very fun. It has some original ideas that I really liked, although I found it a bit difficult to memorize the order of that pillar enemies after they move around (and then they stop moving afterward). Still, the patterns and the bosses turned out really nice, and there’s a lot of variety in the upgrades, which add a lot to the experience.

The soundtrack is a standout too. Great game.

Developer

Thank you! The Pillar Guardians definitely could use a balance patch. Others have pointed out that the lower once are particularly difficult since its hard to shoot them without getting hit. That is something I would improve for sure!

Thanks for your feedback and thanks for playing!

Impressive, fully fledged game! The only things i found lacking, was audio design (SFX should have more punch and soundtrack should be more in front). Other than that, idk why, but i found the keybaord controls a bit clunky and my dash was going in random directions? Also skipping the text with enter was a bit weird. Other than that, great!

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks for checking it out! Sorry to  hear that the audio design didn't land for you. It's always a tough balancing act because I want to be really careful not to blow someone's ear off. You never know who might have their system volume at 100%. So usually my sfx gain is turned down pretty low (with the ability for the player to toggle) just in case.

And I apologize for the keyboard/mouse controls. I did most of my testing with a gamepad and then I ran out of time!  I really appreciate you testing the game despite those wonkey controls!

Thank you!

A complete game, big gratz!

The only serious issue that I had was the dash on mouse (space), but it looks like it's a known issue and swapping for a controller fixed them all; nice use of kenny.io too;  appreciated having pause/settings too.

The soundtrack, graphics and vibes were amazing, it felt  energizing from start to finish. The upgrades were good, so were the units and boss encounters.

Developer

Thank you SO much! I'm glad you had a gamepad handy.

Yeah those input prompt assets are a godsend. I'm glad the settings/pausing stood out to you; its something I always try to add for a game jam even if its a 2 day one. I think having at least some settings to toggle is important.

Thank you so much for your time! I appreciate it.

Drawings and sounds/musics are amazing really well done as well as gameplay too its really solid and fun to play.Only projectiles visuals can be improve it feels poor when you compare with whole game.

Really nice, although the game doesn't seem made for keyboard + mouse, I can't even use all the controls whilst playling >.<

The pillar bosses were an annoyance to deal with, but doable. I think if they periodically changed places, they'd be much better.

Really nice boss designs and patters, very solid work!

Developer(+1)

yeah I really apologize about the keeb/mouse controls. It's one of those thinks were I put off thinking "oh I'll fix this up later" but before I knew it it was time to submit the game. I wish I could send gamepads to everyone haha. But yeah it's a shame I messed that up. But hey, thanks so much for giving it a go! I really appreciate that you took the time to play despite the frustrating controls!

Submitted

Haha, all is fine, the game is great either way!

love me some acid techno, 303 is peak! it's not a super well balanced, visually easily readable game, but it's sooo much FUN! i love it, fr. the dash mechanic and the time stimulation is amazing, it didn't matter too much the projectiles are a bit hard to see. amazing entry, with the best soundtrack

Developer

Haha, A man of culture I see! Thank you for noticing the music. I thought acid would pair really well with a space themed bullet-hell shmup and I'm glad it landed for you haha. The readability/balance is a very fair criticism. I had the projectiles drawn as regular circles with different colors for different enemies and I wish I had kept it at that. What happened is... I was looking at the winning submissions from previous jams and the bullets all looked so shiney! So I tried really hard to get a nice shader glow. I should have kept it simple. Thanks again for playing I really appreciate the feedback!

Submitted

tbf the glowing projectiles are fine, desaturate and blur the background planets and/or try to use just a few desaturated colours for the BG and very distinct, bright colours for the projectiles

Developer

Thanks for that tip! I've learned so much from this jam, so many talented/experienced people here.

This was soooo good! I loved the dash mechanic and how it reflected bullets, although I didn't fully understand how to use the shrink bomb, but maybe I just needed to play around with it more! Overall, loved it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for checking it out!

The shrink bomb effectively deletes all the on screen enemy projectiles, so that the player has about 0.3-5 seconds of safety. I thought it would be a fun mechanic cuz it would give the player some room to breathe in a pinch.

I really appreciate your feedback, thank you agian!

This is extremely good-I cant believe you got so much i the game in 10 days!! Extremely polished and fun:) However it would be nicer if you could dash in all directions as it feels a little off

Developer

Thank you so much for reviewing the game. I totally agree about the dash, not a clean implementation at all. Sorry that part wasn't as polished as it should be!

Cheers and thank you!

Very impressive, the amount of content for just 10 days is incredible. The aesthetic and sound of the game is also quite unique. I couldn't finish it (the boss with the golden shield was super long), but overall it was great. I fought a lot with the controls though, I lost track of the mouse every time I had to dash, I think moving to the player direction would've worked better in my opinion.

Developer(+1)

Oh thank you for saying that about the content! Although I must say your entry has twice as much!

And yeah not rendering a new mouse pointer was a big mistake that luckily others have mentioned. That and dashing towards cursor is an input nightmare. I definitely should have put more thought/testing in to that.

I really appreciate you taking the time to play. Thank you so much.

Fun game! Quite a nice entry, and very polished with minimal issues! I think this is a very solid game, fun twist on the shmup asteroid genre. My only criticism would be that sometimes because of all the stars in the background, some bullets are hard to see, and I often found myself hoping to kill the other thing before it can kill me, rather than dodging. If that was the design intention then that's sick!!

But all in all, good job! Congratulations on finishing and submitting!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! And yeah that is a fair criticism. As you kinda guessed, that was semi-intentional. I wanted the game to have a traditional bullet-hell feel but with something slightly different on top. The goal was to have the player focus on build synergies and gameplay styles rather than pattern reading and timing alone. Thats why I put some effort into powerups like "Shrink Time" and the dash related power ups. But some of the offensive powerups seem maybe a little op and kinda stole the show. I would definitely put for thought into balance next time!

wow nice game, quiet simple but good execution!!

Really nice visuals! It gave a retro old-school arcade style. The upgrades were a nice touch, too. I liked how they varied each time you restarted.  Very polished, great work!^^

Developer

thank you thank you! I'm happy to hear you thought the visuals were nice! I really appreciate your time.

This is a really strong submission! the artstyle is stylish and fun, the gameplay is strong. I only wish that either the dash was tied to the keyboard not the mouse, or the movement was tied to the mouse not the keyboard, cause as it stands it feels a little disjointed. The pillars boss can be a problem for anyone without a homing attack as a few of them hang out right on the bottom of the screen.

Genuinely feels like a top contender to me, good job c:

Developer

Thank you so much! Yeah the dash functionality for the keyboard was something I kinda neglected to patch before my submission. I was mostly doing tests with the gamepad which game back to bite me later. Thank you so much for playing and for giving really good feedback I appreciate it so much!

I had a lot of fun! The artstyle is consistent and the music is great, I enjoyed reflecting bullets with the dash, I like the choices of upgrades (my successful run was I think the only one when I got offered to choose the rapidfire, which was cool) and the difficulty was perfect for me.

Thanks for sharing!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you like the music! I was definitely going for fast paced cyberpunk shmup vibes, but I was starting to worry that it wasnt landing haha. Thank you for playing!
