Hey everyone,
I’m interested in joining Metroidvania Month, but I have a question about the rules.
I have a game called Samurai Time that I started a while ago. It’s a 2D action game with interconnected rooms, keys, locked doors, ability gating (time stop mechanic that unlocks new combat options), and exploration. Basically, it already has a lot of metroidvania elements.
Right now the game is feature-complete but needs polish, balancing, and more content. I wouldn’t be starting from zero.
Is it allowed to use an existing project as a base and keep developing it during the jam? Or does the game need to be started fresh after the jam begins?
I want to respect the rules, so I figured I’d ask before signing up.
Thanks!
Follow-up (if someone asks for more details):
Just to clarify - Samurai Time has:
11 interconnected rooms with doors and transitions
Key system for unlocking new areas
Time stop ability (acts as a "gate" for certain enemy types)
Boss fight
The core is done. I’d be spending the jam month adding more rooms, more abilities, more bosses, and proper ability-gated progression (like a true metroidvania).
