I (think) I was able to figure out what to do pretty easily: dig, get gold, buy upgrades. I found the player controller a little weird to use, especially the jump being more of a float into the air. It was also a little awkward using the shop, I wasn't sure at first that I needed to press the "dig" action to use it, and at one point it did something else inconsistent. Adding some kind of friction for the player could add a lot (danger, tool degrading, inability to dig in all directions, etc)

Here's a playtest

i love the design, feels cozy, after the map got bigger the first time i hit an invisible wall on the left side.

I would suggest adding some juice to the digging, or some friction with enemies, or that you have to make some choices. It feels a bit like an incremental game, but without reward. Of course, I understand it is a game jam game, so there was not much time to create it. This is just a suggestion if you would continue with the project.
I was confused in the beginning. Although the game is called "diggin it", I tried to walk towards the right by jumping. But the above-ground movement is weird, there is no jumping I think. Maybe show "space + down arrow" near the player at the start.
I also found it weird you could not access the tree house from the left.
I don't know what the bar is doing on top, when it is full? It also does not empty.
However, the idea of getting increasingly more gold for upgrades, mining deeper each time, is in itself a good concept though :)

Developer

Thank you so much. Yes, we feel that too. The game is missing that juice. We are thinking of working on it again and maybe adding some more content. We liked the idea of putting some enemies which gives the player a choice. Yes, we think a little addition of a little tutorial board will be great for guiding players. We had the bar in mind that when it fills up, you get upgrades, something like an upgrade indicator, but I think that feature must be worked on.

Unfortunately the controls and movement didn't feel good, the movement feels glitchy and very slow, so having to go back to the treehouse to get upgrades felt quite tedious. I also didn't enjoy having to keep pressing the spacebar repeatedly. It wasn't super intuitive that you're supposed to get to the treehouse by digging, I thought I should be able to just walk up to it, so that took me a while to understand. I really liked the design for the treehouse though, and the background music was nice and calming.

Developer

The movement is a big issue. I see many players hated it. We are very sorry for that. We are working on it to make it feel good, smooth movement. We thought the spacebar was something through which we might connect the dig, and it was something easy to figure out. Thank you so much for the appreciation of the music and the treehouse.

Interesting idea! The combination of the theme and the soft guitar kind of reminded me of Dwarf Fortress. I was a little confused by the movement, and I think the movement speed is a little too slow. I also wished I could hold down space to mine instead of needing to tap every time, and I couldn't quite tell what the chests were for. I really liked the vibe and the atmosphere though :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much that you liked the vibe of our game. We are really sorry about the movement issue. We have noticed this with other players too, and we plan to improve it. I think a little addition, like an auto-dig feature, might add to the charm. Right now, you can upgrade the digging potential to break tiles faster, but yes, we get it gets a bit annoying sometimes just to press a key a lot.

I made a beeline to the treehouse as it was glowing, but spent about a minute trying to get in or climb the ladder. I didn't realise it was a shop until I read the game's description, which slightly defeats the point of the brief. I think this game would really benefit from some tutorialisation, maybe some diagrams, to explain what I was meant to be doing at the start.

The visuals are well-executed and it's clear you're going for a minecraft/terraria inspired look. The music is quite melancholic - I spent my earnings on the second track in the shop thinking it would be a bit more fitting for a dwarf heading down the mines, but it maked me feel more like I was laying a cherished pet to rest. I thought varying the pitch of the sound effect when mining metals was a good touch. I also liked the zoom out to reveal more of the map.

Developer(+1)

That's quite an observation. I think yes, it would have worked much better with a tutorial of some kind on what to do and the basics. I like this insight. I wanted to add hardcore metal music, but my teammate declined the suggestion. I thought it would have been crazier to hear metal and then go digging. Thank you for playing our game. Thank you so much for the appreciation.

The game has some issues. Like you can move the slider that is at the center of the screen. I can't, also, dig after a while or go near gold - chests I liked the game. And i liked the music .Good job!

Developer(+1)

We thought of setting a limit to the game for the jam, but I guess that backfired. Thank you so much for playing our game. We appreciate your thoughts and work on improving it.

you move too slowly while not digging, spamming the spacebar is not great as mine is quite noisy, I would have preferred any other key or if you could hold it

Developer

I understand it would have been better if we had something like an auto-dig feature to work with. We figured that the spacebar might connect with the dig faster than any other key. We are working on the movement as this is the number one issue in our game right now. Thank you for playing our game.

Sadly, the game never finishes loading for me.

Developer

We will need to check the issue. This is our first time uploading a game on itch.io. We will do our best to look into it.

Unfortunately game is not in a playable phase. The movement is glitchy and features are not there yet.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing our game. Please let us know where you found it difficult. We will also look into the movement and the features. Let us know if you have any more suggestions. We would love to improve our game based on that to make it a better game.

Hello the main issues that im facing is mostly about polishing movement is bit weird entering to the house is not easy always and stuff like that

Developer

Ok, I think I understand the entry to the shop has been rather tough because the platform can be dug, maybe a better platforming there, and some movement fixes. Thank you so much.

Sadly I think the game is unplayable? Or at-least I couldn't figure out how to dig or climb any ledges.

Developer(+1)

Press the arrow keys in the direction you want to dig and press Space to dig. I am really sorry you had to experience that. We will improve this so that the experience is better. Thanks for playing our game.

Seems like there's a few bugs which hinder progression which is a real shame because I wanted to see how far it went.

Soundtrack is very chilled and I like the incremental mechanics. Would have been nice to have an upgrade which reduces the slowdown caused by carrying gold as at the moment it doesn't feel like the slowdown adds to the experience.

Developer

Yes, that's totally our fault. We were unaware that once the world unlocks, many people would love to explore, so we are really sorry and will update it as soon as possible. We thought about the slowdown to make the lifting of more gold as a somewhat punishment factor, but yes, it is a very good suggestion that we should've made a card to counter it.
