The creepy art was great. I like the setting of spoopy librarians wanting you to be quiet, and the footstep mechanic was relatively easy to pick up. I found the footstep SFX really distracting, they could have probably been toned down a bit. I didn't find the levels particularly challenging (no need to use the run). A few more levels exploring the mechanic further would have been nice. I liked the ending!
Here's a playtest
I didn't manage to run, but maybe I did something wrong? Anyways, I liked the idea a lot, but I think this game could benefit from more enemy types. It felt repetitive after a while, maybe because I was walking so slowly! Also, I liked the music and atmosphere, kind of reminded me of the clock in the dining hall in the Resident Evil 1 mansion. The walking sounds felt a bit out of place imo, especially as it is so crucial for the game. I also liked the ending music.
The art was beautiful! I also liked the little tutorial room, I think it fit the theme of the jam perfectly well.
I can see a longer version of this on steam :)
Cool concept! I liked the art a lot. I never quite understood what the yellow thing I was holding was, or what it was doing when I pressed space. I also accidentally skipped the tutorial screen, as I was pressing space since that was what the first screen told me to do, so it took me quite a while to realize that I was sprinting from pressing movement keys twice in quick succession. For a while I thought it was random, and I think the fact that it would still activate even if you pressed a different movement key in between to two presses of the same key didn't help with that. I found the footstep sound a little tiring after a while. Adding some pitch randomization and even a couple other sounds to randomize between would definitely help a lot with ear fatigue, though I think the sound you chose might also just not be the best. I didn't really understand what was happening in the end screen, or the sudden change in tone with the music. I loved the rest of the music though. There's an interesting idea here, I think it just needs to be polished up a bit more.
There's a nugget of something great here, the theming, music, art and mechanic combination are very evocativ.
If you iterated a bit more on the puzzle designs I think this would be really good!
Hooray! I escaped! 😄
I like the music at the end.
I wasn't sure what I was carrying / throwing. A stack of books, maybe?
I didn't have much luck trying to attack the librarians. They always killed me. So I just went around them instead.
A pretty fun, quick game.
The scariest part was the music that plays when you win! I like the dynamic of choosing to walk or run with a double tap, but I only really found out how to do that by accident since the game doesn't seem to show it's possible. There's some really wonderful pixel art in here, it almost feels like this is part of some extended series.
Wow that's some good art!!
Since you can run faster than the librarians I found that running the whole time was the best strategy (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it beats waiting for the librarians to walk past you)
I ran into one situation where one of the family members got stuck up against a wall and would just move back and forth. It's probably a navmesh quirk if I had to guess
Another time while I was running around two librarians randomly got stunned? I'm not sure if that was because of those boards on the ground.
I really like the artistics but the hitting animation or that thing in our hand is not that for my taste
The hitting animation was a bit of a quick fix. We had attack animations done but there was a bug that froze it on the first frame and there wasn't time to fix it.
I like the art style itself, but I think you could have benefitted from adding more animation and maybe another level or two (but I appreciate there may have been limited time). The character controller needs refining as I kept running when trying to change direction. It was very intuitive and easy to figure out what I needed to do.
Art direction was very nice, really set the mood and loved the stills! The mechanics were easy to understand and use but the fist(?) felt really out of place artistically and narratively. Didn't see the colouring book in the screenshots, not sure if we got a bug. Found the footstep sound effect to be a little irritating after a bit and character would sometimes run without my input (maybe that's intended?) Great job overall and love the integration of the jam theme!
Very easy to pick up! Nice job!
Very nice! Especially loved the music, is unsettling in the best way, art is also v clean, especially the outside scenery ^__^
the coloring book tutorial is very very nice! very self explanatory.
I don't understand why i suddenly started stomping very loudly occasionally but otherwise the game was straight forward.
I don't personally love stealth horror so when I say I wouldn't buy it that shouldn't imply that other people share my opinion
